Can a backup of a computer from acronis be installed in a virtual machine such as Parallels Desktop?

I'm not familiar with Parallels Desktop, but I actually tried to restore an Acronis TIH v11 image to a WMware workstation virtual machine the weekend just gone. It looked like it was going to work, but I kept getting blue screens on start up of the VM most likely due to the hardware differences of the VM versus the real system. This is partly why I am here trialing TIH 2012; since there is apparently an add-on feature that can restore an image to a system even if the hardware is different. Maybe you can do some Googling on that side of things.
