Virus crashed system, Can't restore full backup to C: drive?

Thread needs solution

Acronis True Image 9.0 - full backup of Dell 8300_Win. XP_ C:/drive:
Opened email that installed virus (Trojan Win32/Fakeswitch?), that totally crashed my system. System can't find OS when rebooting. Used Acronis recovery CD and tried to install the "Full BackUp" that I had on an external backup drive. Acronis tried to install BU but aborted, saying the BU file was corrupt? I don't believe this to be the case? I started to do an operating system reinstall using the system recovery disk that came with my computer, but aborted when it said it was going to reformat my C:/drive. I didn't want to do this yet, since I thought I might be able to remove the hard drive & somehow recover some of my document files from the screwed up drive. The only thing my computer will now do, is run the Dell hardware diagnostics, that say the hardware is OK. When rebooting, I get a message saying it can't ffind the OS. Any suggestions on how to recover from this disaster will be appreciated.

As for your restore ... Make sure that you are using the same version of the Acronis software that was used for the original backup. I have had this problem many times and more often than not, will go away when you use the correct version. As part of the file naming, I now include the version number ie 6868, in order to get around this problem. Good Luck

Hello Gary,

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us! I understand your concern, and would like to assist you.

Unfortunately Acronis True Image Home 9.0 is an extremely outdated product, which is no longer supported, so there's not much we can do. Still I would advise you to follow the troubleshooting steps specified in this KB article. It's dedicated to the situations when the backup is reported to be corrupted.

Let us know if you have any additional questions, we will be glad to address them.

Thank you.

I have a virus on my desktop that I built myself. It has infected my Acronis True Image and Acronis Home Plus Pack version 2013 deluxe)
Would you tell how I can get a replacement cd for this, due to the fact I just removed a virus and it destroyed most of my files.

Don Davidson,
You should edit your post and remove the serial numbers which are for your use only.

All users which have registered their serial numbers with Acronis have access to the files needed to download replacement copies of the software whcih they registered.

You can also download the ISO FILE and use that specific file to create a replacment bootable TI Recovery CD.
Follow the instructions in link #9 below. Skip any registration steps already performed.

If your backup includes more than just the "C" partition, those additional partitions may have to be restored as well.
