WD Advanced Format drives

Thread needs solution

Hi

I hope someone can help me. The HDD in my laptop has just died. Fortunately, I have a recent backup made with TIH 2011.

I have ordered a new WD7500BPKT which apparently is an advanced format drive and I see WD have on their website two products called Acronis WD Align and True Image WD Edition. As soon as my new drive arrives, I will want to restore my backup onto the new drive. Will I need to use either of the WD software products or will restoring my backup to the new drive with TIH 2011 deal with any aligning issues?

Sorry but I do not really understand what the alighning problem is all about.

By the way, I am on Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit.

Thanks in advance

Norman

WD Align doesn't restore data, it aligns existing partition (e.g. after installing windows XP on advanced format disk). TIH 2011 is alignment-aware.

Thanks. Forgive me but does that mean that after I restore my backup onto the new drive using TIH 2011, I don't need to run WD Align to align the partitions correctly? Does running WD Align do any harm if it's run where it isn't necessary?

Thanks

Norman

Yes, running WD Aling after restoring wit TI 2011 should be unnecessary. Any resizing or moving partitions, like WD Align does, is potentially dangerous, that's why it's recommended to backup up first before running it. AFAIK, if the partition is already aligned, WD Align will detect it and will not run, so you may use it to check if TI managed to restore with correct alignment.
