What is the correct way to make backup work with RAID 0
I have read the manual and have looked at the forums and I was wondering is their a tutorial on the correct way to make a backup of a Windows 7x64 installation that's been installed on a RAID0 configuration. I have Acronis true image and the plus pack. I think I'm suppose to make a WinPE disk that has the RAID drivers on it. And if I'm right then I should follow the above forum topic on how to make the disk. Is that right?

Patrick,
If True Image is only seeing one disk for your RAID setup, you jsut have to make images as per the manual. If however it is seeing both disks, then that is a problem and you may need to make a WinPe recovery CD. Make sure you only make the 32 bit version as True Image home doesn't work with 64 bits in WinPe.

Thank you Colin B. .... I gotta say. I like your saying there at the end. "On a clear disk you can seek forever." hehehehehe made me chuckle. Back to the support though. So Acronis will have the RAID drivers when I do a reformat of my hard drivers? And the reason I'm asking this is...I'm not ready to reformat just yet and make sure this all works. I hope you understand. Gotta lot of pics and such stuff.
Thank again Colin B,

Patrick,
The key to successful recovery of a RAID system is to be able to boot to the Acronis True Image Rescue Media, and be able to see the target RAID disk array as one disk. If, while booted to the standard Linux based Acronis Rescue Media, when selecting a destination for the disk/partition backup image, Acronis sees your RAID0 array as two physical disks instead of one logical disk, your restored disk image will not be bootable. If this is the case, as per MVP Colin's post, you would need to use the Plus Pack (optional) to create WinPE (Windows based) Acronis Rescue Media to be able to perform the restore and have a successful result.
The standard Linux based Rescue Media has support for many different RAID controllers, but not all. Additional drivers can not be added to the standard Linux based Media, but additional drivers (if needed) can be added to WinPE based Acronis Rescue Media.
Your backup image (which will be used during recovery/restore) should be a full disk backup image (with any associated incremental or differential backups) created by Acronis True Image that includes ALL of your disk partitions. When the backup image file(s) is/are restored to your system, the entire OS and all applications/settings/data/drivers, etc will be restored as they were at the time of the full disk backup (or any of the incremental or differential backups that you choose) .

Thank you James for the excellent info maybe you can help me with a couple other questions then. You said that I should make a FULL disk backup should I also select the "Back up sector-by-sector" then? I saw you a forum thread you started that gives directions on True Image 2013 Plus Pack WinPE 4.0 (Windows 8) - How to. I followed it to the letter but I cant do it. Is it because I'm using Windows 7?

Patrick,
As I've just got up an dJames may well be asleep or something, I'll jump in and answer part of your question. No, don't use the sector by sector option, there should be no need, a standard compressed image should be just fine.
Sector by sector is for disks that badly damaged or for file systems that True Image doesn't recognise such as HPFs or JFS for OS2, you would also end up with an image that is the exact size of the disk being imaged, definitely not recommended for everyday imaging.
Are you using WAIK or ADK for the WinPe source files?

Hello Colin B,
I have both installed but am using the ADK. I just read an forum post on how to add custom drivers to a WinPE 4.0 image and create an ISO file using the Acronis WinPE ISO Builder in True Image 2013 Build 6514. It was by Mustang here : http://forum.acronis.com/forum/35238?page=1#comment-129245
I was able to create one and I slip streamed the lastest RAID drivers from Intel onto it. I haven't tried it yet though....Ran out of time again.
Does a universal default driver list exist to download somewhere or does ADK have a lot of them? Man I cant wait to see if this works ....if it does I owe all of it to you guys volunteering. Thanks a lot Colin B.

p.s. Do I have to use the 32 bit RAID drivers and if I do have to use that..... does that mean I'll never be able to use a 64 bit system or is there a way to take care of that situation after the recovery?

Patrick,
ADK will contain the same drivers as Win 8 does by default, so you only need to add drivers that you would normally need to add after installing W8, all you need are the correct drivers to get Windows 8 up and running, once it is up and running, you can then install all the extra drivers you need in the normal way.

Colins,
Thank you Colins! I'll let you know how it turns out. I'm gonna secure erase and see if it works! Thank you so much.
