No. Acronis can't be trusted.

Hello!

No, ATI 2010 is a disaster for me.
I would not buy it again.

Hello AZ BEn and Marc,

First of all, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience we caused to you by our product and support. Let me address all issues you faced with the program.

AZ BEn, as far as I understand, you're facing some backup corruption issue when backing up to DVD, is that correct? If yes, could you please clarify, what exactly happens when you're trying to save the same image to your HDD?

Generally, corrupted archives could be created because there are some bad sectors or unreadable data resides on your HDD.

Please perform the following operations:

-Check the disks for errors

Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r"
where DISK is the partition letter you need to check. Please note, that
checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.

-Change the backup location (for example save your backup to the internal HDD instead external)

-Please try to perform the operations using Acronis Bootable Media. To create it please follow: Tools -> Create bootable rescue media. Then boot your machine from it and you will be able to use Acronis True Image Home without booting any OS.
Acronis Bootable Rescue Media is a standalone version of Acronis True Image Home, burned onto a CD and based on a Linux operating system.

Marc, I understand that the situation can be inconvenient for you, but could you please clarify, what exactly happens? We would be glad to assist you and fix the issue.

Additionally to this, you are welcome to ask me any other questions concerning Acronis, and I will assist you further.

Regards,

True Image is very very picky with marginal hardware. What Windows will happily ignore, will make True Image falter - and sometimes for good reason. If you got a corrupted Backup when you used the hard disk, something is wrong with the drive. First thing to do is run chkdsk /r on the drive. Try to fix the hard drive problem first. Using DVD disks will give you more problems than using a hard drive to hold your Images.
Also instead of using 1-click, use the manual method ... choose Backup, choose where to put it, choose your own name for the backup file.

Alex: your lucky I came back to check.

First: there is no prob with DVD; reads and writes fine with Roxio. The first thing I checked before attempt to use TI.
Load Trial TI. Removed all un-needed software from C:
Clicked Destop backup icon. verified with TI. (didnt mount/didnt know about mounting)
Install Win 7, fresh install. Reloaded software and TI.
Prob Phase:
Using TI-Check to see if there is anything on disk----corrupted.
created boot media usb: boot failed.
created boot media usb/ sd media: boot failed.
created boot DVD: boot worked.
-Disk corrupted.
So two corrupted messages from TI on verified disk.......

Load VMware: Install XP from disks. start all over!
Install TI, to check disk.
Check backup: disk corrupted.
Mount disk on F: disk corrupted.
Today: mount disk in VMware\XP it mounts....see all old settings and software.
Now what?

I would like to use backup as recovery to install on VMware\XP. Can this be done-- how?
Not at all comfortable with acronis, Zero confidence , right now.

You haven't said if you have run checkdisk manually. TI puts much stress on your hard drive and on RAM, if either are ever so slightly below par, things can go wrong. Normally TI creates error messages, but not always.

Can TI from within Windows see and read your images?

As DwnNdrty said, have you tried making a manual image?

It is best to try to a hard drive to start with if you've got problems, as it is easier to see where the problem might lie.

I assume you are using TI2010 b6053.

We need to check how it behaves in W7 before getting involved with VMware. In fact I'm a little unsure of how well the Home version works with VMware.

Unit is DELL T5500 Workstation-stock.
The DVD is R/W--- Chkdsk D: does not read RAW.

Can TI from within Windows see and read your images?
No!

As DwnNdrty said, have you tried making a manual image?
No, too late---Installed Win 7.

???

Dont Know---- no about screen.

For the build number, hit the Alt key and the familiar Help menu will appear near the top.

In 2010 Acronis have added in a drop down button on the far right hand top corner. Click on this and the ABOUT option will be available.

Ahh ... that's a little improvement ... only a little though.

Hello all,

DwnNDrty and Colin, thank you very much for your suggestions. They are 100% correct.

AZ BEn, since you have already reinstalled your system and there's no way to recreate source image, the only thing we can determine is whether your HDD or RAM module were the possible cause for the corruption.

We would like to make sure that the memory module of your machine is not corrupt as this can be the reason of the issue.

Please download the following archive:

    * CD http://www.memtest.org/download/2.01/memtest86+-2.01.iso.zip

Unpack the archive and burn the unpacked ISO file to CD.

We recommend you to refer to the following article if you are not familiar with ISO burning:
http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm

After that boot your PC from the CD and memtest will start automatically. When it is 100% completed (1 or 2 passes), create a digital photo of the screen and attach it to your answer in this thread.

Please also collect Acronis Report file, which will help us to analyze the structure of your hard drives. In order to create Acronis Report file, please download Acronis Report utility, run it and create a report. The default name of this file is "report.txt" and it is saved on your desktop.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Here you go:

I have given your product a fair chance. I was told about your product by DELL tech support. I will call them and let them know about this failure of your product. And, not to suggest using this software.

It really is time consuming to beta test your software. The simple basics dont work. Software like this give PC users, a bad name vs MAC users.

But, below are the files. And, another hour and half of my time.
