Which partitions to back up for a system image

Thread needs solution

I'm used to using Windows Backup to create a system image, in case I have a hard drive failure, so I can return my computer to a certain state.

I have not been able to create a system image on my Dell Inspiron 15Z with Windows Backup - it fails every time. So I purchased Acronis True Image 2013, but I don't know which partitions to back up to get the equivalent of a system image in Windows Backup. Can anyone tell me which ones that I need?

Here is how my computer was set up by Dell:

Note that my computer is advertized with a 500 Gb hard drive and 32 Gb SSD.

Disk 0 : 8.00 Gb Unnamed primary partition

Disk 1 : 500 Mb ESP partition FAT32, 40 Mb DIAGS partition FAT32, 500 Mb WINRETOOLS partition NFTS, 453 C: partition NFTS, and 12 Gb PBR partiton NFTS

This link will show you how to use TrueImage to create a "disk image backup" from within 'windows or when booted from the TrueImage Recovery CD. Selecting all partitions (both lettered and non-lettered partitions) is the key to being able to restore your backup onto a new or old disk.
