which TI home version
I now have Acronis TI Home 2009 and decided to change my backup
criteria. I wanted to create a full backup every day and keep only 5
backups continuously. I am so lost trying to acomplish this. The
previous schedule was for one full backup and 1 differential with two
sets kept at all times. I never understood the use of differential and
incremental when it comes to restoring the entire system. I know the
difference between them but not the restoral process so that is why I
tried to change to nothing but full backups.
Which newer version would be best for me to create the backups I
mentioned? I keep hearing that 2010 is better for Windows XP novice
users. I am reading about users having problems with GUI in 2011.
Please help me find the best solution.

Richard Keller

With ati2009, you can do it.
1) For the "Backup method" choose either "Incremental" or "Differential" method AND select the "Create a new full backup after" checkbox AND set the number in the backups field to 0. This will force ATI to make another full backup everytime. It also also enables the "Automatic consolidation" step (disabled for the "Full" backup method), which will be needed for ensuring automatic deletion of the oldest backup.
2) At the "Automatic consolidation" step select the "Number of backups exceeds" checkbox and set a limit of X backups where "x" is the number of backups you want to have.
When ATi makes the x+1 backup, it will then try to consolidate the incs/diffs, of which there will be none, so it then just deletes the oldest backup to maintain the specified limit of X backups.
Note that you have to have space for the X+1 backup even though you are only keeping X backups.
good luck,

Thanks much Scott. Will give it a try. Sounds simple enough. Never would have gone that route without your suggestion.
