Why can't I change partition?

Thread needs solution

Just upgraded to Windows7 and Acronis True Image 2010. Am enthused by back it upp now if I can get it to work the way I want.

I have one hard drive divided into three partitions. Also have an external usb drive. Would like the program to store its data on the external drive so I can back up the partition it has chosen to sotre its data but the program says that drive is not possible for that purpose.

simple questions: Why is it not accepptable and how do I change this.

Many thanks.

1. Is the external drive big enough? Is it formatted? Can you write & read a file to it?
2. Run chkdsk on the external drive.
3. Create a bootable rescue TI Linux CD.
4. Try both the installed Windows TI, and the booted rescue CD to see if one of them will allow the external drive to be an archive destination.
5. Try the backup using manual method, not "one click method". Be sure to specify the external drive as the destination.
6. If it simply won't work --- take two aspirin pills and call back in the morning.

Fungus

Turned out that I had to reformat the external drive to NTFS from Fat32. No problems thereafter. All it took was a 45 minute call to Moscow.
