Why size of image 5 times larger than disk backing up?

Thread needs solution

I am backing up a drive that is 3.6GB of data, yet 2012 TI says the image will be 1.6TB, WTF????

That is 5 time the size of the data!

What a waste of space making images so darn big, is this normal?

First,, thanks for the compliments on my guides via PM.

Which version of Windows and which version of TrueImageHome.
What type backup? Disk option; or individual partitions (how many) or a selection of individual folders and files?

Normal backup size is about 70% of used space for partitions or disks being included within the backup.

The first place I would look is to check if more partitions or disks are check for inclusion within the backup than expected.
Do you have a 1.6tb disk attached which might be included in the backup?

The program backs up used disk sectors--not individual files.
If the disk is going bad and has multiple disk errors, and the same sectors are read and re-read, this could cause an expansion of size.

Where is the figure 1.6TB coming from. Is this actual or is this projection of backup size?

Follow the st eps in link #2 below for if performing a disk or partition backup if using Windows.
Also, the 2014 Acronis web-help guide from along the left margin could help.

If wanting to perform a backup when booted from the user created TI Recovery CD, this guide can help.
