Will True Image Home 2012 do the same thing as Paragon Migrate OS to SSD 2.0?

Thread needs solution

I was thinking of purchasing an upgrade to True Image 2012, but I was wondering if it will do the same thing as Paragon Migrate OS to SSD 2.0:

Basically, I want to migrate only my Windows 7 OS to my new SSD and have it be properly aligned. I have way more data than can fit on the SSD, so I can't just clone my drive. I have to be able to only transfer the OS.

Thanks!!

I think the Paragon product is supposed to extract the OS and apps from the data all contained in one large partition. Since the un-needed data files are left behind the extracted OS and apps will fit onto a SSD. It is more than just doing the alignment properly.

Matt,

Paragon has automated some selections you can achieve manually with ATI 2012. You have to create a backup of your current disk, but excluding the use content.
Note that you should leave the folders under C:\users\userA\... , but exclude the content from them. This means you exclude C:\users\UserA\Documents\*.*, C:\users\UserA\Videos\*.*, not the entire C:\users\UserA directory.
Leaving the top folder like "Documents", "Videos", etc. will allow you to redirect them to the other disk

Then you restore your backup to the SSD following the link Scott Hieber highlighted for you.

Once you system boot, you can put back your old disk back in, reorganize the content on it, and then redirect each empty folder in C:\users\UserA\[eachfolder\ to the new location. (properties -> Location)

If used space on your HDD is more that SSD capacity, excluding files during backup will not help - the image will be smaller but during restore the target will be gray. You will need to restore it to some temporary (large enough) partition first, back it up, and then restore the second one to SSD.
