Win 7 registry recovery
I have a full backup on disc for my computer. The registry is corrupt and I want to recover it from my backup but I don't know which files or folders to do the recovery on! If there are step by step instructions for doing this somewhere, please point me in the right direction.
(Acronis True Image Home 2010 build 7046)

I am new to all this and I'm not sure of the terminology but I would describe the backup I have as a full backup which contains all the partitions on my two HDD's. The backup is on an external HDD. Thanks for your interest.

Technically they're the files in c:\windows\system32\config\ . If the problem is corrupted registry files, file restore from disk backup may do the trick.

Dennis,
What is your operating system? The registry combines various files to store its information.

Here is what I found on Wikipedia:
The following system Registry files are stored in %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\:
Sam – HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SAM
Security – HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY
Software – HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE
System – HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM
Default – HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT
Userdiff – Not associated with a hive. Used only when upgrading operating systems.
The following file is stored in each user's profile folder:
%UserProfile%\Ntuser.dat – HKEY_USERS\ (linked to by HKEY_CURRENT_USER)
To restore these files, you will have to boot on the recovery CD and select to restore only specific files and folders.
