Windows 10 Upgrade from Win8.1 with Acronis True Image 2014
Hello ATI users community,
on my desk top I run Windows 8.1 (current WinUpdate level). I want to upgrade to Windows 10 within the next couple of days.
For backup & recovery I am using Acronis True Image 2014 Premium (version 17.0.6673 as installed in 07/2017, unfortunately no updates after that).
ATI 2014 is said not to be compatible with Win10. I already have ATI 2016 available (box, not installed yet) to be able to meet the Win10 requirements. According to the ATI 2016 manual the installation of ATI 2016 will be performed as kind of update to an existing ATI 2014 installation, which will result in a ATI 2016 installation at the current (2016-) level.
Question #1: will it be a good idea to do the following:
- to perform a full backup (disk image) with ATI 2014 (my current "old level") to be safe. Q#2: ATI online or use of the offline bootable recovery tool (same level)?
- to update ATI 2014 to the current 2016-level (still under Win8.1)
- to perform a full backup, now with ATI 2016, current level, to be safe. Q#3: ATI online or bootable recovery media?
- to upgrade to Win10 in a following step
However: Since I read about problems when upgrading to Win10 with ATI 2016 still being installed: Q#4: Is it therefore possibly advisable to do the following instead:
- perform a full (2014-)backup Q#6: online or offline bootable recovery media (at same level)?
- to uninstall ATI 2014 Q#7: preferrably via Acronis cleanup tool or normal Win-uninstall?
- to perform the upgrade to Win10
- to clean install ATI 2016
x . whenever required: system recovery using the offline bootable recovery media and latest full backup (both at the 2014-level!).
Q#8: will my "current old" 2014 backup version be OK for this in all possible cases?
Many thanks for your advice, pittan42
