Windows hard disk not detected

Thread needs solution

I recently paid for and upgraded to True Image Home 2012. I worked at first but now hard disk in Windows is not detected. Shutting of virus protecton software and firewall didn´t help. When trying to contact support I received the message that my support period had expired.

I have had similar problem. I am just upgrading to sata3 SSD on a Z68 mobo and I think this is the problem with Home10 Plus. I wanted to transfer a dual boot Win7/XP system and the boot disk would not recognise sata disk. Even when I did a fresh install of Xp (slipstreamed the sata drivers) and made a new boot disk from the installed home 10 Plus on boot up the boot disk would not recognise any disk.

Before you say ....What has this to do with ATIH 2012? I want to know if ATIH 2012 with plus has Sata3 (6GBps) support.

I have a Packard Bell computer EasyNote TK laptop, bought six months ago with no extras, just a standard. I suppose hard disk is Sata.

I had a lot of problem getting XP (my OS of choice) on to a Toshiba netbook . I had to change the bios to read IDE and not AHCI to do the install.
Without the SSD running in IDE mode ATIH2010 would not see the SSD.

Soren, do you mean that the program TrueImage2012 is operating fine (ie. it opens up), but if you go and do a Backup operation then it can't see any Source drives on your computer?

Soren, have a read through this forum thread - http://forum.acronis.com/forum/24274 - and consider following the uninstall, re-install method... But there may be a few hurdles along the way. The 2011 Cleaner tool is available from the Acronis Knowledge Base site. This seems to do the trick at cleaning the old install and allowing a correct TI2012 install albeit with a few odd issues on my PC.
Good luck.

I upgraded from 2011 to 2012 True Image. When I launch 2012, I received the attached error message. The program does not see any of my drives as a source for backup. I have used the disk mailed to me to "repair" the installation but get the same results. Any suggestions?

It seems this happens a lot with people upgrading in place. Try this:
- uninstall 2012,
- run the 2011 cleanup utility (don't use it if you have other Acronis software)
- reboot,
- install 2012.

If this doesn't work or if you have other Acronis software,
- restore a backup prior to the upgrade,
- uninstall 2011,
- cleanup registry / folder remnants manually,
- reboot,
- install 2012.

Hi Pat, I followed your advice and it took care of the problem. It seems to me that it should not be this difficult to do a simple upgrade of a program from an earlier version. But the cleanup utility did the trick. Thanks.

In another post, Acronis promised they will provide an update to the following link:

Installing snapman.sys separately might take care of the issue and avoid the whole uninstall/reinstall.

I am a typical computer user concerned with creating accurate backups. When I pay to purchase an upgrade to a currently installed program (True Image 2011), I expect to click on install and have it install properly. I couldn't care less about AHCI drivers or any other techno-talk. I just want the program to work without hassles. Having to waste my time to find a solution to it's installation failure reduces the value of the program and the competence of Acronis in my eyes.

Hello everyone, I'm writting to let you know that we are checking the issue at the moment. I'll provide an update a bit later.

I just had the same problem as I installed 2012 on my main computer. I fixed it with the following steps:
- run the 2011 cleanup utility (2012 was still installed- don't use it if you have other Acronis software)
- reboot,
- re install 2012.

Please note that this bug is not only related to an old 2011 installation of ATIH. It also happens on brand new systems and on "old" systems after applying the 2011 cleanup utility!

Yes, I experience the problem, also on an new PC. The error as attached appears when starting "Extras and Tools/drive state".

History: On a new PC, I tried to install TI 9.0, but this did not work. Windows reported "Known compatibility issues", but I continued to install. After a few seconds of "installing", it reported that the **Deinstallation** did not work. I assume there wasn't really something installed.
Then I downloaded TI 2012 trial and installed it. When I choose "Volume Drive Backup" the box with the source drives is empty. But my local hard drives appear in the box for backup targets.

Another issue is the following: When starting "Volume7Drive Backup", TI 2012 asks for all mapped network drives for the credentials (these are about 6 drives mapping to novell server). But these volumes are fully accessible (done by network login script, I guess). i entered my Network password but the "Test connection" failed. Two questions:
1) Why does it need the credentials before I even specified what I want to Backup?
2) Why does the "Test connection" fail when I enter my credentials?

This error appears to be cured by repairing the installation, however the error recurs on re-boot requiring repeated reinstallation etc. The fault is accompanied by an error relating to the Acronis server connection ie the client fails to connect.
