Windows not able boot up after recover

Thread needs solution

Just purchased a brand new SSD and since my current SSD is SO stable I am trying to recover the weekly image from ATI to the new SSD.

Current SSD in my main system is SO stable and it is W7 x64.

In order not to mess up the main system, I am doing all the process/recover in different W7 x32 machine, 2nd system

I updated the new SSD driver and FW from W7 x32 system and trying to recover the weekly back up image to the new SSD in the 2nd system.

However, after I tried it 3 times, I seen the Windows logo show up and the 3 balls spinning circle for about 3 secs then it will disappear, fail to boot up and it will reboot itself in the main system. It seems to me that some of the boot partitions or something are not right therefore I am not able to boot up the new SSD in my main system. I feel I am pretty close since all files are in the new SSD, probably just some partitions are not right...

Please help if you have any ideas. Much appreciated!

If you're seeing the Windows logo on boot-up, the MBR and boot sector are fine. It could be causing a BSOD and just going by so fast you can't see it. Go to the Safe Mode (F8) menu and select the option to disable the auto-reboot on errors.

Check the BIOS after connecting the new SSD and verify all the settings are correct. Sometimes the BIOS will change things when it detects a new drive (things that you might not want changed).

Are these desktop systems or laptops?

Thanks MudCrab.

It is a desktop. Went to BIOS and new SSD in the first boot order.

I am thinking maybe I've x32 driver installed from 2nd system using x64 image therefore I am not able to boot up the main system using the new SSD.

Will that be it?

Check what the BSOD error code is (if you're getting one).

Does the original SSD boot right up when it's reinstalled?

Just so it's clear, are you trying to boot the new SSD in the Windows 7 x64 system or the other Windows 7 x86 (32-bit) system? Booting on a different system can cause all sorts of problems, including BSOD errors.

No BSOD error I can see so far.

No, the original SSD boot right up after reinstalled.

Problem occur when I try to boot up the new SSD in the main W7 x64 machine.

Did you disable the auto-reboot?

I would try doing the restore with the new SSD installed in the original computer.

MudCrab,

Instead of update the driver, FW and recover the original image from 2nd system, W7 x86, I done all them in the main system and instead of recover the image I clone them and all good now.

But to be honest I am a bit worry since it failed to me to restore and assume my original SSD failed to me one day, can't boot then I won't be able to do anything.

What options did you use for the restore?

Are there multiple partitions on the drive?

What to back up - check the disk I want to back up
Destination: point to my destination folder NTSF
Single version scheme
validation back up when it is created
back up sector by sector
Automatic back up splitting
Compression level - normal

No partition at all.

Thanks for all the help!
