Windows update does not work on cloned drive

Using True Image 2013, after installing cloned drive, Windows Update will not run. I suspect that update references the identifier of the hard drive and when it sees a different identifier, the program will not work. Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a known workaround?
If there is no fix, what is the use of cloning a drive?
