WTF??? Failed to read data from the disk

Thread needs solution

So I had forgotten that I had deleted Acronis True Image Home 2010 from my computer a year ago because it is worthless.

I went ahead and downloaded the newest version (build 7.160) and guess what- still not working!

Here is the error message I get-

Details: Failed to read data from the disk.
Failed to read from sector '152,164,112' of hard disk '1'.
Failed to read the snapshot. (0x10C45A)
CRC error (0x100155): Retry/Ignore/Ignore All/Cancel

Yeah, keeps happening. I ran checkdisk and my hard drive is fine.

I have searched here for answers, not finding much help.

Can anyone help?

This error is typically resolved after the disk is checked.

I know you are saying you checked the disk...

Remember to run chkdsk with the /r option from a command prompt running with administrative priveleges.

This did not find any problems (Windows 7 64 bit). Which was the same thing I ran earlier.

Oh, and as you may know it will not run from the prompt, but gets scheduled to run on the next boot.

That's right.

The error can come from snapapi, but you have the latest version, it seems.

So, your disk has some issues. Other users haver reported cases where chkdsk doesn't find anything, and then other diagnostics tools finally identified a problem.

Thank you Pat, I tried chkdsk with the -r option it found a bad sector with a prefetch file written to it. After moving the file my original problem that inspired me to try making a disk image was resolved (after resuming from hibernate my wifi was disabled). I also ran Seagate's Seatools for DOS and it found 18 other disk errors.

In the end I replaced the hard drive. I am now running an OCZ Agility SSD and am pleased with the results.

I will take back the bad things I said about True Image- up to a point. A software package that is supposed to help you recover from disk disasters should be able to make a backup without writing to bad sectors of the drive. That just sounds... flawed.

Thanks for the clue that helped solve my mysterious problems!

Pat,
I just checked chkdsk /? on my Win7 HP system and the switches are still of the "/x" variety, rather than the "-x" you suggested. ??Any comments??

Zig

You are right, this is "/r" . I will correct the post above.
