Can't create Rescue Media (Version 6077)

Thread needs solution

Just installed Acronis True Image for Mac (Version 6077). I've attempted to CREATE RESCUE MEDIA using 3 different, 8GB flash drives. Each one fails after about 8 minutes with this message:

An error occurred while creating media

Failed to create bootable media by using Apple Software Restore

That's it, no error number, no suggestions regarding the problem

Adult Tech,

Does your system have a recovery parition? Shutdown computer and turn on.  As soon as you here the Apple "chime" press and hold

Command+R

According to these other threads.  Acronis is based off of the Apple recovery partition and relies on it to create the media.  If the recovery partition is missing or corrupt in OS X, Acronis won't be able to complete the build either.

Rescue Med. not installing.

I have just installed TrueImage 17 on my MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.11.6. When I try to create rescue media on an 8 GB USB stick (7.5 GB available) I get the following message:

"Failed to create bootable media, because OS X Recovery does not exist or its version mismatches the OS X version. If you have OS X Recovery stored on an external hard drive, plug in that drive, and then try again."

There is no problem with the Revovery partition on my laptop. I tested it and it workd. I have used it successfuly with the Disk Warrior Recovery media and using Cmd-R on startup in the past.

Does anyone have any idea?

Many thanks

I'd contact tech support since this is a recovery issue

FYI, still no answer from. Acronis, they say they will be contacting me by the end of the month.  I say BS.

Acronis TS did as little as possible to help with this problem that they created.   I gave up and got my money back.,  They could not solve the problem on a brand new 2 day old iMac.

Hello Gregg,

sorry to hear of your frustration. This issue is not something that occurs on all systems, in other words is specific to the environment, that's why the investigation would have consumed more efforts than usually. As far as I can see, your recent order has been refunded.

Thank you,

I call BS again.  This is a brand new iMac just out of the box, was trying to do a first CLONE so I would have a clean backup if ever needed.  Needless to say, Your product was new on the system too.  No one ever really tried to solve the problem.   They just asked me to create the media on a different computer, that I no longer have.

So, my brand new iMac is something unique????   NO!

ekaterina:

i have the same issue with recovery media creation with a new imac pro. same symptoms. these are just two instances brought up in the forum but it does have some correlation.

i did create a mac system recovery drive, but am not sure how this is used in conjunction with backups to recover failures of bootable drives (i.e., macintosh hd (os) and/or bootcamp partitions). the links i read dont discuss this.

can you help explain the steps involved in recovering a failure or either/both partition(s) using the mac system recovery drive and ati 2018 mac backups, please?

thanks,

js

Hello jaschoon,

I'm afraid this step is only for the troubleshooting purposes. As Acronis bootable media on Mac is solely based on the native Mac recovery partition, we need to make sure it exists and allows to boot to the recovery mode outside Acronis. If recovery partition is broken, we need to solve this issue first. Have you already contacted Acronis support team?

ekaterina:

with working with support they reported the following conclusion:

With the system report, we checked with the expert team and we were able to reproduce the issue. This issue fix is expected to release with next version of True Image is a version 2019. We will get back to you via email once the new version is released.

it appears this has not worked at all in ati2018 for mac. hopefully a fix will be releaased for the 2018 version. now that the issue has been identified can you help coordinate with the technical team to help provide updates?

Thanks,

JS

Hello JS,

I've reviewed your open ticket and the related issue - the root cause for the issue is that a bootable media on Mac can be created only if the version of macOS Recovery matches the version of macOS installed on your Mac. In this case we can only recommend creating a rescue media on another Mac that has no difference in versions of Recovery OS and installed macOC. See How to Identify the Version of Mac OS on the Recovery Partition. Probably it's also possible to change the version of the Recovery partition, it'd be better to consult with Apple support though.

Thank you,

Just installed the 2019 version:  An error occurred while creating media.  Failed to create bootable media by using Apple Software Restore.

So i waiting a long time for this upgrade and it still is not woking.....

Hello Gregg,

such issues are usually specific to the environment (Apple recovery partition in this case) and should be investigated with the help of support engineers. Once the root cause is identified, developers can start working on the fix.

ekaterina:

i cant speak to the case of others but your comment doesnt apply to my imac pro case (see above). i have been able to create apple recovery media since january. i have spent literally dozens of hours working with your engineers on both the 2018 & 2019 versions to no end.

Hello JS,

I haven't found any documented issues with media creation on iMac. Please let us know the results of the investigation in your open ticket.

Thank you!
