Mac Air w/bootcamp restore disaster.
I've used ATI for years on a variety of Windows notebooks over the years. Currently have just renewed my 3 user license and put one of those installs on a newly purchased MacBook Air w/256gb SSD with bootcamp to dual boot into either OS X 10.10.2 or Windows 8.1. I also installed Parallels to allow access to the same Win 8.1 install via a virtual machine inside OS X.
Have made a half dozen backups using ATI to a variety of backup storage devices. USB flash drives, external USB hard drives, and a network NAS on my home network. All of these backups included both the OSX and Windows 8.1 partitions.
Today I needed to restore just the Windows 8.1 partition. I created the bootable recovery on a flash drive and booted to that. It saw the .tib file backup on my other usb flash drive and proceeded to install. Things went sour upon my attempt to reboot after the recovery completed.
The bootcamp partition would no longer boot. It got an unrecoverable error. Out of curiousity I loaded OSX and was actually able to run Windows 8.1 from that same partition as a virtual machine. So - it seemed to be a problem with perhaps one of the other two (EFI and something else) partitions. So I did a restore of ALL FOUR of the partitions showing in the .tib file from last evening.
To make a long story short, I have yet to be able to again boot EITHER the OSX or the BOOTCAMP partition on my MacBook Air. I do have multiple ATI for Mac backups on several medias - but after doing what appears to be a successful recovery at least 8 times now, I have yet to get the MacBook to boot again - either in OSX mode or Windows 8.1. If I hold down the option key during startup it does let me choose from "Macintosh HD" or "Windows" or "Windows" or "Windows". Note that it has somehow confused itself enough to think there are 3 possible "Windows" boot partitions. However - NONE of them will actually boot. Nor will the OSX.
I'm extremely disappointed in this ATI for Mac. When the restore of a backup renders the machine unbootable, this cannot be a good things.
Would love to hear that I can recover from this fiasco. I still have multiple ATI backups onhand. But so far cannot successfully restore any of them. They "appear" to go through the restore process okay, but do not result in a bootable system.
I place myself at the mercy of those who know how to fix this! :)
PS - As mentioned at the start, I have used ATI for years and have performed dozens of full partition recoveries on Windows XP, 7, and 8.1. My first go around with ATI for Mac has left me a bit stunned after it has rendered my MacBook Air unusable.
Is my best option at this point to start over with Yosemite OS and rebuild it from scratch? I've only had this MBA for 2 weeks. And there is nothing on it that I cannot replicate eventually.

Not sure exactly what you mean regarding the inability to create a snapshot of BOOTCAMP. Are you saying that ATI for Mac cannot create a snapshot of the BOOTCAMP partion even when that partition is not being accessed by ANYTHING else? Hmmmmm... WHY?
FWIW, in my case, the BOOTCAMP partition can be booted natively (at startup using the Options key). It can also be invoked via Parallels from within OS X which then runs as a hosted Virtual Machine - using the Windows 8.1 installed in the BOOTCAMP partition for its run-time files.
At the time of my ATI for Mac backups, I have been careful to NOT have the BOOTCAMP (Windows 8.1) invoked. And Acronis does indeed offer to backup two partitions (MacintoshHD and BOOTCAMP). I noticed that the .tib file created was indeed much larger (~50gb) than the MacintoshHD partition - thus leading me to believe that it included a copy of the BOOTCAMP partition. Perhaps I was mistaken to assume that this meant I was actually getting a backup of the BOOTCAMP partition. My misplaced faith in this BOOTCAMP backup was bolstered when I was able to view the BOOTCAMP folders and files within the MyMac.tib backup file. I suspect that I can indeed restore individual files (and folders) from that BOOTCAMP partition backup - but obviously my attempt to restore the entire partition went very badly.
At any rate, I have recovered - thanks to Time Machine's backup of MacintoshHD. I restored the MacintoshHD partition using Time Machine and got my Macbook Air to boot into OS X. I then removed the BOOTCAMP partition totally and reclaimed the entire 256gb SSD drive for OS X. After testing to see that it was stable, I re-created the BOOTCAMP partition and re-installed WIndows 8.1 there. I then deleted the old VM in Parallels and recreated a new one pointing again to BOOTCAMP. All is well at last.
Time Machine does not allow me to even select the BOOTCAMP partition for backup. This is what led to acquire ATI 2015 for Mac.
Is there any scenario which provides for a backup of my BOOTCAMP partition? Perhaps I can install Acronis True Image 2015 (for Windows) within my BOOTCAMP partition - and then boot directly on that partition to facilitate a backup that can actually be restored? If this will work - does it consume 2 of my ATI licenses? Or just 1 license since both the ATI for Mac and ATI for Windows will be on the same machine?
If the ATI for Windows installed within the BOOTCAMP is not a viable backup option - then please point me toward a solution. Is it likely that ATI will evolve to support this rather standard Macbook configuration? IOW, are you working on it?
Thanks for the assistance. I'm not trying to make a big deal out of this - but have found myself rather frustrated with this problem. If ATI is not able to backup the BOOTCAMP partition validly, then I'd suggest you make that VERY CLEAR whenever a user mistakenly accepts the defaults on his/her Macbook and thinks they are making a backup when all they are doing is wasting a bit of time...
