Testing a reply with a link before posting

Thread needs solution

I just answered a question and as part of the answer I pasted a link to  to another thread. As I often do, I Previewed the post and clicked on the embedded link to ensure it worked properly. I did get a message warning me that I was navigating away from my post and the info would be lost. I didn't believe it but I should have, my reply was gone.

Is there no way to test links in posts without losing the tentative reply?

I just right-click on the link and open it in a new tab.

You can switch to Source mode (the Source button), select everything and copy it to the clipboard. That way, if it gets lost, you can just paste it back in.

Another option is to just go ahead and save the post and then check that the link works. If it doesn't, just edit the post to fix it.

Hello,

I'm doing the same as MudCrab...

I was always considering it as normal behavior that leaving the page with a form with some unsubmitted information/content is not saving this information/content. I'm not sure if it can be changed, however I would try to dig for additional info regarding it.

Thanks

Hi Seekforever,

What browser are you using? Almost all modern browsers allow for opening links in new tabs by Ctrl+Click or by pressing the middle mouse button or the mouse wheel.

Hope this helps. Thanks

I find website boxes tedious. Especially if I'm doing a long post, I do it in MS Word or Open Office and get it right, then copy and paste it.
