Greetings Thomas,
You should have two options for recovery. We recommend recovering in the Acronis Boot CD Environment.

You can also recover in windows, but this method reboots the machine int othe recovery environment as well. Your choice as to which menthod you want to use.

If you are able to mount and browse the image successfully, you should be able to recover from it as well. Back-up images should be validated everytime or atleast periodically in order to ensure your back-up's are valid and will offer the best chance for successful recovery.

Are you not able to see a "Recover" option (little box with a green arrow) when viewing past back-ups in the Task menu?

To resolve the "Not Protected" message. Create a back-up task that runs on a schedule, run the task once and this message will disappear. Keep in mind, you are not truly protected if you have only perfomend a single "one time" back-up.

In regards to support. Support from the User Forums is free. You also get 30 days of free installation support directly from Acronis. Recovery related support issues are also provided free of charge. While you might need to provide billing information when a ticket is created, you will not be charged, or you will be refunded for any recovery related support that is provided.

Chances are however, the forum team or MVP's will be able to help you here, quickly and efficiently.

Thanks for your response.

Yes, the problem is, that the software ran the backup just fine, I have the backup file which I can mount, browse etc., but within the Acronis software, the task has the status "not backed up yet", which is nonsense. There is no "Recovery" option as it should be.

Another unrelated problem is that for my daily system backups, there is a status line in the task overview stating "the last backup has failed". Well, it does not have any failures in the calendar log overview and all backup files are where they should be and are mountable.

Regarding "support"... while I appreciate the knowledge here in the forum, it is ridiculous that a software company does not work on faults in their product.

You will see a "not backed up yet" status message until the the system does a scheduled backup. A backup initiated manually will NOT clear this clunky message. If the backup was successfully validated, then the message can be ignored and will disappear when a scheduled backup is completed.

No, that same function worked for me before. There is no need to back something up with the scheduler, you can do a "backup now" and it is supposed to show up with the recovery option.
Anyhow, I deleted all entries in the list and added them back in via "browse for backups" and miraculously, the "recover" button appeared where it is supposed to be. Must have been something screwed up in the internal database and the software did not check/realize that there was an inconsistency.

Thanks for your help though.
