Deleting Acronis does not delete everything.

Thread needs solution

My backup media failed and had to be replaced. I uninstalled 2015 and reinstalled, but the Backup file still thinks it is adding to the old backup. The .tib file is named xxxxx_full_b9_s1_v1.tib. Thje "b9" must be that it thinks this is the 9th backup of a series but it is now the only one. When I try to mount it, I get "Cannot assign a drive letter to a partition from the backup archive"

Do I need to use the Cleanup utility to remove ALL traces of previous attempts at backing up and the reinstall? If so, do I really have to do the bit which involves editing the registry? I can't believe that a product requires you to do that. It is so easy to get it wrong and screw up the machine completely. I have done the standard uninstall twice now and it seems to remember stuff.

Thanks

Is there a TIB file left? If yes, ATI will look at the TIB files present in the directory and compare notes between the settings of the backup and the information in the TIB file.

Move the existing TIB files to another directory (on the same disk to avoid a long copy), uninstall ATI, reboot, Reinstall and create a new task in an empty directory. Manually delete the moved files once they get old enough,

Thanks for this. I still think that if you uninstall a product, it should do just that - uninstall. It is easy to add to an existing backup if you want to. But the default should be to start afresh. I used the cleanup utility - an odd product in itself as it runs from a command prompt - and I now have a new, full backup.

Thanks again.
