Steve Thanks for your reply,
but i am still confused.
Do i need to make 2 seperated CD Bootable Media?
I want just 1. Is it possible?
Thanks
- Log in to post comments

Yes, when you use the Media Builder tool to create your media select the Universal Restore option. You will be given the option of adding True Image Recovery in that process.
- Log in to post comments

You only need to make one bootable media but it will need to be either on DVD or on USB memory stick because the size is more than 700MB.
The bootable media will have a menu that offers all the programs that you selected to include in the media, i.e. the Acronis True Image program in 32-bit and 64-bit versions, Acronis System Report, Acronis Universal Restore and the default option to boot into Windows.

Steve no Problem to use a DVD instead of a CD but i cannot understand
how to make both, ATI2016 and UR, on the same support.

Please look at the document I attached earlier https://forum.acronis.com/system/files/forum/2016/05/118468/universal_restore_media.pdf which has screen shots of the step by step process to create Universal Restore media.

HJello,
i've made the Boot Media as the link that Steve said ( Thanks Steve ) but it won't work.
When i boot up the PC and choose to start from the DVD, i get:
Start of Acronis Loader........
After about 5 seconds i get the Acronis Menu.
I've choosed Acronis True Image ( but whatever i choose: Acronis True Image (64-bit) or Acronis Universal Restore (64-bit)),i get the same result.
Got the the Acroniss Loading Page, after about 30 seconds i get a black screen and immediatly after, always on the black screen i read:
Acronis
Loading , please wait...
after about 5 seconds, the words above disappears and nothing else happens.
I just get the Black screen and nothing loads any more.
Where am i missing?
Thank.

Hello, you may not be booting the Acronis Recovery Media in the correct mode for your system.
Please run the msinfo32.exe utility and look for the BIOS Mode information for your system.
Click on Start then type msinfo32.exe into the Run prompt or directly, then double-click on msinfo32.exe when shown.
Example:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. A12, 8/28/2013
SMBIOS Version 2.7
Embedded Controller Version 255.255
BIOS Mode Legacy
BaseBoard Manufacturer Dell Inc.
BaseBoard Model Not Available
BaseBoard Name Base Board
Platform Role Desktop
Secure Boot State Unsupported
PCR7 Configuration Binding Not Possible
Windows Directory C:\WINDOWS
System Directory C:\WINDOWS\system32
Boot Device \Device\HarddiskVolume2
If your systems show BIOS Mode = Legacy as shown above, then this is the mode that you need to boot the Acronis Rescue Media.
If your systems show BIOS Mode = UEFI then you need to select the UEFI boot option for the device you are booting the Acronis Rescue Media from, i.e. UEFI DVD or UEFI USB boot device.

Hello steve,
thanks once again for your helps.
Ran the msinfo32.exe utility and looked for the BIOS Mode.
i have as Bios Mode: Legacy
and as Secure Boot State Unsupported
Right as your one.
Is that enough or you need mor infos?
Thanks

Hello Enzol,
Ok, thank you for the boot mode information, it sounds very much like the standard Acronis boot media does not have the device drivers for your computer hardware, and you will need to build the Windows PE version of the boot media instead.
Please advise what version of Windows you are running, and also more details about your computer system, i.e. Make, model, what type of hard drive(s) are installed etc?

Version/date Bios: Award Software International, Inc. 2012/20/03
Any more details???
Steve how to make the ATI2016 + UR on the same media with WinPE?
I have tried time ago but just with ATI2016 and it worked but how i said from the beginner i would like to put both,

Hello Enzol,
You should be able to follow the same guide document that I gave you before, but select to make WinPE media when you see the image on page 2 which will then give you the screen shown attached below:
The key difference when building Universal Restore WinPE media is that currently this does not recognise the Windows 10 ADK that you may already have installed if you have made the main ATIH 2016 WinPE rescue media, so in the attached screen shot, you will see that it wants you to download and install one of the earlier versions of the Windows ADK depending on which version of WinPE you want to use. I would recommend using the Windows PE 5.0 ADK for Windows 8.1 as the latest version prior to Windows 10 ADK.

Hello Pete,
following the same guide,
i do not get the page as you've attached.
I have choosed :
Acronis Universal Restore then on the next page i have to choose between
Wiondows style representation or Linux style representation.
But have tried with both options and never get the page you attached.
Going next from this page, it ask for Linux Kernel Parameters. i did not put anything and just
pressed next, then i get the Acronis components that i want to put on the CD.
I choose all of them putting the tick on all boxes and pressed next.
On the next page i press next again and get the page asking where to put the file, on CD or making an ISO file
I choose CD and then next. Did not add any driver and choose next i get the summary and press next again.
At this point it start to make the CD.
Tried to boot up with the media and got the same as before.
Where am i missing?
Thanks

Hello Enzo,
You need to select Windows PE from the drop-down menu at the top of the page - see screen shot below:

Pete and what to set at the bottom?
as Windows Rappresantation or as Linux Rappresantation ?
Thanks

Pete I have tried choosen Windows Rappresentation and made the media.
Boot up from the media. It worked but I do not see the ATI2016 but just the Universal Restore
Thanks

ik8ozv,
Try again to boot from the media you created. Running it from a CD/DVD takes a long time to load on some machines, I've heard of some almost 5 minutes to load so be patient and see what happens.
- Log in to post comments

I have rebooted several times and get always the same menu.
To load from the beginner till I get the Acroni Universal Restore
menu window, it took about 3 minted and 10 seconds but I repeat,
i just get the Acronis Universal Restore and not also the ATI2016.
Please how to post a foto or screens shot so i can post it?
Thanks

Unfortunately I cannot read the screen of the jpeg you provided, I think because of the angle it was taken. I have not created WinPE Universal Restore with True Image myself so I may not be of help here.

Hello Enzo,
When you got to the screen shown attached below, did you select to include ATIH 2016 standard programs?

Steve ,
when i do the media trough Universal Restore i do not get that window.
What i do is:
Load Acronis True Image
Select the Tools icon on the left and on the right click on Acronis Universal Restore.
On the next page i click on Next
On the next page wich is the one you post the first image (atih_2016_bootable_media_builder_pe_1.png)
I have also put the tick in the Box "creates an x64 support" and left the ball in "Automatically create WinPE"i select from the dropdown menu "Windows PE"
Click on next and i saw a DOS window that opens and scrolls a lot of file from the Windows AIK folder and then it closes.
Then i get the driver windows. Here i just pressed on Next.
Then i get the "Select the media output" window and here i get just to choose where to create the media, on the CD support or or on the HD as an ISO file, or on the HD as a WIM Format, or on a Server with Acronis configured PXE.
I choose my CD Drive and press Next.
Then i get the Summary window and the Tab Proceed.
Clicking on Proceed it starts makingh the CD.
I do not get the windows as you sent the screensot called atih_2016_bootable_media_builder_4.png.
Where is the mistake i am still doing?
Thanks
Enzo

Hello Enzo,
I have just tried to do this myself and have found that with the Windows PE bootable media, there is no option to create a combined ATIH 2016 programs + Universal Restore DVD media.
You can create Windows PE ATIH 2016 media or Windows PE Universal Restore media but not the two together.
You can create a standard Linux based bootable media with ATIH 2016 programs and Universal Restore together.
So if you really do need to have Windows PE boot media then you will need to put this on 2 x DVD's.

Ok Steve,
now it is clear.
Thanks for your helps.

Concur with Steve - this has been a limiting factor with WinPE for all applicaitons as they use the statnet.cmd command and only launch one default application per build. There are custom ways to "tweak" WinPE to do both, but they are not supported by Acronis and require a bit of Windows ADK knowledge to customize your winPE. Unfortunately, I think that's out of the scope of the prodcut and this forum though, but it is possible.

Ho folks,
as we understood that there is no possibility to make a media boot with
both: ATI2016 and UR togheter, I've made a media with just ATI2016
as WINPE based, but when I boot the PC from
the Boot Cd created, I get the error I've attached.
Where am I missing?
Thanks
Enzo.

Hello Enzo,
Can you capture some screen shots of the actual steps / options that you are taking when booting from the Acronis bootable media? It might help us to try to understand what is happening here.

Steve i press F12 when i reset. get the Boot menu and Choose to boot from the CD.

Based on the failure with the Linux media and the error code from the WinPE media, I suspect that either your CDs or your CD burner are defective. As a test, try creating a Windows 10 system repair CD by going to Control Panel, System and Security, and Backup and Restore. Then select the link that says Create a system repair disc. If this CD fails to boot with the same error code as the WinPE, that would be a strong indicator of bad CDs or a failing CD burner.

Hello,
i could make the bootable CD Media,
but I am noticing that it takes up to about 4 minutes to load
Exactly it takes 03:51 seconds.
Is that normally? It seems to be to high.
Also I am noticing that the media created is in
English language. If I can remember I could make
it also in Italian language but do not undetsta
what am I doing wrong

Enzo,
Yes - CD's and DVD's can be quite slow. It really depends on your DVD/CD drive, but it will be a few minutes for load time as it is copying from teh drive into memory and creating a Ramdisk. USB flash drives are typically much faster, but also depends on if they are 2.0 or 3.0, the type of port they are connecting too, and the rated read/write speeds of the drive (not all are created equal - not even close).
As for the language, I believe Windows PE always defaults to English with the Windows ADK. I don't see why you would need to use the WinPE though, unless you're having issues with the default bootable media not detecting your hard drive or your Ethernet (NIC)? The default bootable recovery media should be in the language of your Acronis application as it is installed on your computer.
If you use the Universal Restore media builder, pick the default Linux option. You will then be able to add Acronis 2016 and Universal Restore to your bootable media and can then pick either option in the first menu when it boots up. In most cases, you would be using Acronis for backup and recovery. You would only use Universal Restore if recovering to new/different hardware (like a new computer or a new motherboard).

Then after a while i get just A black screen with nothing writed in and it remains in this condition.
I've made a video with my smartphone but do not know how to upload iùon the forum.

OK, it's almost there. It should pop up relatively quickly, but depends on the system
1) is your USB drive 2.0 or 3.0?
2) is the port on your computer usb 2.0 or 3.0?
3) how much physical memory does your computer have?
I'd try a port on the other side of your PC. Desktops usually have 2 USB headers that are different on the front and back. If using the front, try the back panel instead and vice-versa
After that - just wait. It may need a a little time - if it hasn't popped up after 5 minutes though, it's probably not going to.
One last thought... FASTBOOT. If your system is Win 8.1 or Win 10.0, fastboot is most likely on as it is by default. When you "shutdown" with fastboot, it doesn't actually shutdown, just hybrid sleep. You can still get to the bios, but because the OS has not completely shutdown, it is not possible to boot to any media yet. The fix/work-a-round is to "RESTART" the system since that will force a full shutdown. Altneratively, hard power of the PC, wait a few seconds and then boot to the drive again and see if this produces better results.
- Log in to post comments

A few other notes... make sure "secure boot" is NOT enabled in the bios. Secure boot must be disabled to boot UEFI from a usb flash drive.
2nd, how is your OS installed - Legacy or UEFI. You want to boot your Acronis rescue media in the same manner.
BIOS Mode - See if Windows Boot in UEFI or Legacy Mode
Once confirmed, then use your motherboard one time boot menu or boot override menu to verify you are booting the Acronis media to match. Here's an example of a Dell one time boot menu (F12 after RESTART at the bios menu screen). As you can see, it shows secure boot off. You'll also notice there are USB boot options for Legacy or UEFI. You would pick the mode that matches how your OS is installed.

OK, nevermind. You are using a DVD. Basically, either the DVD is bad, the burn to the DVD is bad (perhaps your burner is on the way out)... OR just give it some time. Start the boot menu as you have and go have a beer or a coffee and let it sit a bit and see if the Acronis menu pops up after a few minutes (longer than 5 minutes, not likely... but let it go 10 minutes and if it's still not loaded, there's a problem).
If you have a 1Gb USB flash drive (or bigger) - it must be a flash drive (external UsB hard drive won't work). YOu can create bootable rescue media directly to it instead of using a DVD disc. That should provide faster booting, especially if using a USB 3.0 flash drive with a USB 3.0 port on the computer.

I have waited for about 10 minutes but get always a black screen.
I have tried to make it in an 8GB Pendrive but get the same issue.
Thanks

Yes the drive should be fine. Just plug it in. Launch Acronis. Click on More Tools and rescue media builder. Take the default options and you should be able to select it as the output option. Acronis will do the rest and it will make it bootable too.

I'm running out of ideas. Can you test the drive on another system to see if the behavior is the same or not? I haven't found a computer I couldn't boot the media on yet.
What's your computer model and bios version?
Are you booting in legacy mode or UEFI mode? I believe you should be booting legacy mode. Click on my name and send me a PM and I'll give you info to email me your video.

Hello Bobbo,
i have tried the media on another PC how you suggested me and have
noticed that it goes trough till the end and it is also more faster to load.
Maybe it could be any parameter in the bios?
Wher to look please.
Attached i the screenshot of my PC configuration.
Bios Version is F10.
I am booting in Legacy Mode also because i do not know if i have UEFI legacy or not.
The motherboard is a Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 Rev.1.3.
On the Motherboard box i can read "TOUCH BIOS HYBRID EFI TECHNOLOGY "
Thanks

Hello Enzo, thank you for the motherboard information.
According to the manual for the motherboard, you do have UEFI capable BIOS:
EFI CD/DVD Boot Option
Set this item to EFI if you want to install the operating system to a hard drive larger than 2.2 TB. Make
sure the operating system to be installed supports booting from a GPT partition, such as Windows 7 64-
bit and Windows Server 2003 64-bit. Auto lets the BIOS automatically configure this setting depending
on the hard drive you install. (Default: Auto)
So I guess the next question is what hard drive size do you have? Is it larger than 2.2 TB, if so then from the above, your system will default to booting in UEFI mode to support the disk drive size? If smaller, then it should default to Legacy boot.

Hello Steve,
thank you for coming back.
My O.S. Drive is an SSD 250GB.
The EFI CD/DVD Boot Option in the Bios is set to AUTO.
Should i set it to EFI?
