Acronis True Image 2014 Premium : Program (GUI) opens for 0.5 sec and closes, without further action

Thread needs solution

I have a license for Acronis True Image 2014 Premium for 3 PCs
This program works smoothly, even under Windows 10.
Since a month, however, I get a daily message that the creation of the incremental backups does not work, as there is a shortage of space on my hard disk (which is a fact!)
To correct this problem, I removed old image files manually, using Windows Explorer.
However, if I want to start the Acronis Ture Image program, the GUI (graphical user interface) appears on screen for 0.5 seconds. after which the program closes again. This also happens when starting the Acronis Ture Image program, as being an administrator.
Using the version 2019 can be an answer, but looks to me 'an overkill' because my 2014-version was still working, was still sending me daily messages.
Who knows this problem and can possibly solve this problem?

Patrick, welcome to these public User Forums.

Acronis do not officially support the use of ATI 2014 with Windows 10 as clearly documented in KB 56196: Windows 10 support in Acronis products - where the following is published.

Older versions of Acronis products
Support of Windows 10 will not be implemented into older versions of Acronis products (e.g. Acronis True Image 2014 or older, Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 or older, Acronis Snap Deploy 4 or older), as Acronis development team works on the current versions only. Stable functioning of older products on Windows 10 is not guaranteed.

I understand that ATI 2014 has been working on Windows 10 for you, but Acronis did no testing of this combination of products, and certainly no testing with later versions of Windows 10 updates like the re-released Windows 10 1809 October update just being rolled out.

ATI (all versions) should be run with Administrator privileges for correct operation due to the very low level OS and disk access required by the application.

I would normally suggest trying a Repair Install of products that stop working as you describe, which you can try (this just means installing the latest full installer for ATI 2014 without uninstalling your current software) but attempting to do so may well cause Microsoft to flag up that the software is incompatible with Windows 10.

I would suggest that it would be a good investment to upgrade from ATI 2014 to 2019 given the low cost of doing so (relative to the cost of not having a working backup solution to protect your investment in Windows and all installed applications plus your data).  Doing so would also give you free access to the Acronis Support team, if required, for the next year (until Acronis release the next version of ATI and have this in general use for a month).

@Steve,

I did a Repair Install (without a better result), and also a full uninstall/install (without a better result)
I understand your suggestion to upgrade to ATI 2019 ;-) - Thank you !

It's a pitty that upgrades (without additional functopnality) are not for free, so a user has to pay each 2-3 years again for the product he/she already bought / paid for ;-(

best regards, Patrick

Sorry, Patrick, but Acronis are primarily in business to create revenue and there is no additional revenue involved with giving away free upgrades for older products.  There are significant changes between ATI 2014 and the latest ATI 2019, including introduction of new functionality with Acronis Active Protection for ransomware prevention, Notary etc.  Perhaps the biggest benefit is in the support for newer hardware products such as NVMe M.2 drives, as well as support for the changes being introduced with new Windows Updates.
