Acronis Stops Working After Installing Graphics Driver

Thread solved

I recently purchased a Pavilion dv7 6165Sus laptop with Windows 7. I upgraded it with a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit. I install Acronis TI 2020 and it works properly. Then I install the PC drivers and Acronis constantly crashes. It freezes every time I use the Boot Media tool. Then I can't choose the backup location because it is greyed out when I choose a custom location.

Been dealing with this issue for about a month. I've tried so many options. Uninstall/Reinstall windows, SNAP file, chat support, installing drivers then Acronis, etc. My graphic driver, AMD Catalyst 3.0.829.0, is a necessity. Sometimes Acronis works with it installed, other times it doesn't.

Plus, when I can make a boot media, it doesn't upload on startup when I select F9. I'd appreciate any assistance.

Thank you

LillyLoo, welcome to these public User Forums.

How old is your HP Pavilion dv7 6165Sus laptop if it came installed with Windows 7?  Just doing a quick Google search suggests this may date back to around 2008 for some of these models?

I have not seen any reports of any similar issues here in the forums and from my own experience, have not had any issues with running ATI 2020 on a variety of different computers of mixed age / vintage.

I have also used the ATI 2020 Linux version of the rescue media to backup / recover an ancient IBM Thinkpad T42 (32-bit non-PAE CPU) which is much older than your Pavillion.

Have you tried turning off and disabling the Acronis Active Protection feature of ATI 2020 - this will only apply to issues that show when in Windows 8.1 as AAP does not apply to the boot media environment.

The other thought is to ask why you decided to go to Windows 8.1 rather than go to 10, which you could have upgraded to for free from Windows 7?  (You should be able to do the same from Windows 8.1 providing you are not using a Volume license that doesn't allow this).

I don't care for Win10 bc it hijacks your computer. That's why I prefer Win 8.1 But I did upgrade to Win10 to see if that would correct my problems with Acronis. After the upgrade, I still experienced the same issues. So I uninstalled Win10 and now I'm back to Win8.1

I think it might have something to do with a missing update or KB file.

[SOLVED] I installed my graphics driver incorrectly. I had to follow all the step-by-step instructions listed on the manufacture's site. Ex. update graphic driver to latest version, disable firewall and windows defender temporarily, install Windows 7 sp1, etc. Once I completed all the steps, I rebooted and reinstalled Acronis. Works perfectly.

That is good to read, thanks for sharing the feedback.
