Failed to open information about volume of archive

Thread needs solution

I have two PCs backing up to a Synology NAS drive. One is working OK, but I have problems with the other. Both are using Win7.

Initially I thought all was OK until I checked the dates on the tib files and realised that nothing had been saved although the PC was going through the motions. I have just cleared out the backup location, deleted the task and started again.

Setting up the task gave the following error:
Failed to check the existence of the file
'\\DISKSTATION\PC 2009 backup\PC2009 C.tib'
However I was allowed to continue and the backup ran and validated. Then I tried to edit the task and on trying to save the changes I get:
Failed to open information about volume of archive PC2009 _C
Event code: 0x00640000

I cannot set up a schedule and I don't know if a subsequent backup will work. How do I fix this?

Check your rights management on the network conneciton.
Have you ever had it working, if so, then, easiest thing to try is to uninstall, run the cleaner, then reinstall and see if prob persists.

If you've never had it working; it's more likely a compatibilty prob. But let's see if unitatll/clean/resintall works first.

I tried another backup before uninstalling. I ran it manually, it worked OK. After that I could edit the task so I set a schedule. The next backup ran OK. So as it seems to work I will leave the uninstall for now. I have the cleaner for 2011 and 2012. This installation is 2011 upgraded to 2012. Should I run both cleaners when I uninstall if I have a problem in the future?

Thanks

As a rule of thumb, I would unisntalling before installing new build or bversion. If that proved inadequate -- i.e., I still can't install a new version, then I'd run the cleaner too. both.
