Product Installation Issues

Thread needs solution

Having trouble with my acronis cloning software that came with my v300 SSD. The disk says 2010 so im guessing its an older version. Im able to boot the software on startup as it says to. But im not able to get past the language picking screen. Its just goes to a black screen, with nothing going on. Any suggestions?

Is this an actual copy of TIH 2010 or one from a disk manufacturer or OEM copy?

I'm assuming it is TIH 2010, but it might also be Migrate Easy, which has not been updated and I believe is now almost obsolete.

Product True Image 2012 (Home):

After rolling back my PC and updating Windows etc, I then discovered on trying to make a new updated image that True Image was no longer recognising my internal data backup drive (D:) as a destination - only as a source drive! Unable to find a way to sort this mystery out I decided to uninstall / reinstall True Image 2012 in the hope of fixing that problem only to then discover that the installation wizard for 2012 refused to let me continue the installation beyond the software key input section! It did this by ghosting out the "next" button making progress impossible. No errors; wizard simply refused to continue. Call me Mr Cynical if you like but it was as if Acronis, after checking pre-install for the "latest version" of my software, shut me down deliberately as 2012 is no longer supported. I can accept no tech support. I cannot and will not accept being 'prevented' from re installing my software.

So, my question is: How can I get my software installed again? I am not interested in the 2014 version as I have no interest in cloud storage or Windows 8 compatibility (I run Windows 7 Pro) and, apart from all that, I was perfectly happy with my 2012 version as it did everything I needed.

Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Gordon,

Is your copy of TIH one provided by a computer/disk manufacturer or one form a shop/downloaded?

When you run the installer does it offer you a choice of uninstall or repair in addition to install?

Hi Colin,

Thank you for your prompt response.

The copy of TIH 2012 I have is from the link that Acronis sent me when I upgraded from TIH 2010.

When I run the installer there are no options whatsoever apart from the first 3 input screens it presents; license agreement, user participation program then the problem activation key section with the ghosted out "next" button. With no other options available any further progress on the installation is not possible. And that is it!

I purchased ADATA SSD and Acronis software download was included. Downloaded appropriate software but cannot get it to install and has installation failure almost immediately. I have followed instructions included with SSD exactly.

I have attached error log.

Please help.

Thank you

Oh dear the dreaded Microsoft VC80.CRT problem.

I would use the Acronis Cleaner to remove all traces of True Image and then try again to install.

If that doesn't solve the problem you may need to check your Windows Updates and see if it is recommending any Visual C++ security updates.

The problem is there are versions of VC80 provided by many program installers that it is easy for one of them to become corrupted or removed by mistake when uninstalling a program.

Just to note, using the Acronis Cleaner will also disable any other Acronis program you may have installed, and they will need to have a repair install run on them.

Collin,

thank you very much for your comments on failed installation True Image 2013 (Microsoft 80 CRT). Sunday 14th december
I tried to use the cleaner utility and re-install True Image 2013 and 2014 but both programs failed.
I don't have knowledge of Visual Basic to solve this problen.
Therefore I tried to install a trail version of version 2015 and this option worked up till now.
But will I get after some time the same problem again?
I hope you can help me.

thanks

Frans

@Frans

You shouldn't get the problem again as fas as True Image is concerned, but other programs may install their own versions of VC80.CRT and have their own problems.

@Roger,
The install log points to an OEM version of 2014, does that sound correct?

Your first problem (Error 3 2262) suggests that you have a permissions problem. Is your PC provided by an IT department by any chance, and do you have Administrator privileges?

Hi Colin

Yes the system contains ATI OEM version and I would like to uninstall it.

I do use right click to select run with administrator to install ATI2014.

Please help

Thanks

Roger

Roger,

Just to make sure, this PC is not provisioned by a corporate IT department, just checking as they may have disabled some installation options.

At the moment there appears to be a setting on your PC that is not allowing you access to install TI 2014.

Is your 2014 version an upgrade or full version? If an upgrade, do you have the 2010 OEM serial number?

The first question is, do you log in to access your desktop or when you boot your desktop automatically appears?

Do you have more than one user on this PC and if you do, are they able to install TI?

Are you selecting an 'all users' install or a single user install? If single user, try the 'all users' option, because this places a couple of True Images files in a different folder, it sometimes means there are no more permission installation problems.

There are two further things that can be tried, installing 2014 over the top of 2010 and using the Acronis Cleaner utility.

The cleaner will remove 2010 and also disable any other Acronis products you have installed. They will need to be repair installed.

Try the other suggestions first, but if all else fails the cleaner is available from here. It is most important that the instructions on the page are followed.

I bought a SSD drive to transfer my boot drive to, it came with a 16 digit short key for acronis true image HD 2014 not having used this product before I queried a colleague if it was ok he assured me that he had used for a number of years with no problems.

I downloaded the installation file and ran it entered the 16 digit short key and registered, an email with the 64 character code was sent to me but would not allow registration of the product (remained greyed out) I also note that the key supplied is 71 chars long if you count the hyphens 64 without.

I am running 32 bit windows 7 pro
can I get some help as I cannot find anything regarding this on the forum

River rat,

The first thing to do is to make sure the licence key is valid - so enter it into the register programs box under your Acronis account page. If this fails, we at least know where the problem lies.

If the key does work by allowing itself to be registered to your Acronis account, I suggest re-downloading the installer file that will appear in your account. Just in case there is a problem with the one you've already downloaded.

However, if this is where you downloaded the installer from, then your next option is to run the installer again and select 'Repair Install'.

I bought 4 licenses for TI 2013.
I received upgrades to TI 2014 for all licenses.

I have installed and used ONLY 3 of the licenses a couple of years ago.
I originally planned to build a new machine, and never did... so that license has just sat unused this whole time.

However, I've just got a new machine, and installed TI, and it keeps saying my license is already in use.
When I "Change serial number" from the menu, and put in a TI 2014 number it says "This is an upgrade number, please provide the original number..." or something to that effect. I have tried several, but since I have two numbers to put in (2013 and 2014 number) and 4 of each, that's 4 x 4 = 16 combinations!!

Each time I do it, it seems to accept it. There's a "working" icon for a moment, and then the window goes away; but if I then click Activate, it gives me the stupid "Too many Activations..." message!!! And then I have to start over with another guess!... which it again seems to accept... but then won't activate... and I'm stuck in a loop!

Gosh!! Can't you guys just tell me which of my 4 serials is NOT used so I can use it finally!?! Why can't I just see this in my "Account" when I log in. I'd love to see the license number, and the MACHINE name next to it. That would be SIMPLE and make common sense!

Send me an email with the combination of the 2013 number, and the 2014 number I should put in to get this damn thing to work! Please!

Ty Freeborn,

What you could try is to select the option to 'move' a serial number, this should then list which machines that serial is currently assigned to, then you can chose to either use the one not listed for your new machine or indeed move an existing serial to your new machine.

When Acronis first started the multiple licence offer, they did list on a special webpage all the assigned machines, that seemed to disappear when Cloud based images became available.

Colin,

Thanks for your reply Colin, but it wasn't an issue of having used all 4 licenses (and so needed to "move" one)... it was that I could NOT use the 4th license key.
I had to open a ticket. Acronis tech support escalated the issue and issued/re-issued the serial.

Anyway, it's working now, but what a lot of frustration and waste of my time. All this hassle could have been avoided by simply showing the MACHINE name next to the serial when you log into your account and view your product serials.

Hi,

I purchased a Crucial MX100 SSD and it came with a one-time user Acronis True Image HD. After receiving the 64 digit activation key, it's telling me that:

Acronis provides support for the current and immediately preceding versions of the product. The version that you selected is no longer supported. We recommend you to upgrade to the latest version of the product.
You can look for a solution in Acronis Knowledge base or ask for assistance in our Support Forum.
You can also get warranty support for any data recovery issue.

Can you please offer some assistance?

Thanks

C Malcom,

Does your copy of True Image offer a version/build number?

Many of the OEM products are based on True Image 2009, which has been updated by both the hard drive vendor and Acronis to take account of new drive technologies.

If Crucial have bundled any version earlier than TI 2014, then indeed, you have no support from Acronis unless it refers to a recovery problem. Normally Acronis have an upgrade path for those who have OEM products.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for responding.

Where would I find the version/build number? It's True Image 2014. Please see the attached photos of it in my account and the card I got with the Crucial HD.

Sorted - The problem below is all down to a requirement for SP1 & 2 for Vista although I don't understand why the error message couldn't have told me that!!!

I have Acronis true image 2014 and have used it successfully to read the extended size of a 4TB WD sata drive on a windows vista laptop
I had problems with the speed of my laptop so decided to reset to factory settings and reinstall just the software that I use.
I backed up everything to the extended partition - yes I know now - not a good idea
Now when I try to install Acronis I get a rollback and

"Installation has failed.
Fatal error during installation
Module C:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\versions_view.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147010895. Contact your support personnel."

I've switched the windows firewall off and exited defender. I haven't loaded antivirus or anything like that yet. I tried to install with user accounts switched on then switched off and each time I try I get the same error.

It hasn't given me an opportunity to enter my registration code

I temporarily installed Acronis on another laptop to get at my email settings and it worked ok so it's not the installation file that is corrupt and on the one it fails on it hasn't asked for my registration code yet so it isn't thinking I'm trying to install on a second laptop. (The other is currently offline anyway)

I'm guessing it is a permission thing so I've even used regedit to open up permissions all the register folders and it still fails.

It has worked on this laptop with vista and the same esata(external) drives before so what am I doing wrong

Where would I find the version/build number?

Hi Christian, I'm sorry I missed your reply.

You should be able to find your build version from within True Image itself or by right clicking on TIstarter.exe and looking at properties. In TI, select the Help option (far right drop down arrow) and then select About.

Hi there
I just found out after installing the trial version of Acronis True image that it doesn't work with Windows Vista home Premium 32bit on laptop bought in 2008. I need to backup my whole pc to an external drive so I can format the pc drive and re-install everthing back again. I cant find a Acronis product that does this or any other product for that matter online. Im a total newb regarding these things (im 46) Could anyone help me or direct me to a Acronis product or other software that would do this? I appreciate any help.
Many thanks
Alvaro

Alvaro,

For now you could make a recovery environment CD/USB stick, boot from that and you would then be able to image/backup your disk.

I have sent you a PM.

Hi Colin
Many thanks for your response! My cd/bd drive doesn't work. But I just had an epiphany: baceking up my entire laptop to an external drive won't solve the problem because when Ive formatted the pc drive and transfered everything from the external drive to the pc all the spyware, malware etc will remain. A neighbor suggested creating a virtual drive but that seems complicated but it would save me from buying a USB stick. My hard drive has 220GB. Ive got 154GB free. My external drive has 500GB, 320GB free. OS Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. Is there any Acronis product that would work because all I find is for 64bit Vista.
Sorry to bother you like this. Once again thank you very much.
Kind regards
Alvaro Campos

Sorry Colin
Its Vista Home Premium 32bit with SP2 and Microsoft license.

I'm not sure making a virtual drive will help you as all your malware etc will then be on the virtual drive as well.

As far as I'm aware only the Business versions from Acronis can work with all versions of Vista.

I would suggest that to get you going, you use the route I suggested in my PM to you, this will at least get you a compressed image that you can restore if trying to remove all your malware etc goes wrong.

As for your virus and malware problem, I would suggest, after making a complete image, switch off the Vista Restore Points if you've left them enabled as many nasties like to hid in this hidden folder and respawn themselves as most malware and virus checkers don't look in this hidden folder. I would also recommend deleting all the contents that Windows will allow in all the hidden Windows 'temp' folders. Then, run your antivirus and malware checkers.

Unless you have large raw format files such as MPEGS or TIFFs on your drive, once standard compression has been used it should fit onto the spare 320GB you have easily.

As an example, I have 3 partitions which total 396GB of space, the compressed image is 220GB. Roughly your 220GB drive will result in a compressed image file of 37GB using True Image. Similar results will be found using other imaging software, though may be slightly larger due to different ways of implementing compression.

Initial installation failure, Acronis 2014 OEM (came with my Crucial MX200 SSD). Win 7 Pro, 64 bit, AMD processor.

Screen capture of error...attached.

System produced Installation Error log, but it is huge ( 17Mb), so did not attach.

Was able to register using 16 digit short key...was e-mail the long serial. Tried to upgrade to 2015, but states SN invalid.

David,

I'm unclear, was the OEM 2014 installed and you are trying to upgrade to 2015?

Does this KB article help at all?

https://kb.acronis.com/content/14331

Did you purchase an upgrade or full version of True Image 2015 and when you register the serial number what type does it show itself as in your account?

Collin...thanks for your timely and informative help.

The OEM 2014 was what was provided with my new SSD drive...it is the only version I was trying to install...and the installation was unsuccessful. In seeking help the installation process provided a link to the Acronis site...it is on that web-site that I registered the 2014 OEM with the 16 digit short key...I then received an e-mail providing a much longer Key/SN. While still on the Acronis Web-site I saw the "Upgrade" link and gave it a try, but it stated my SN/Key (I tried both the 16 digit and the e-mailed long key) was not correct. I can assume that the OEM is simply not a product that allows for an upgrade...and that is fine...I was just thinking maybe my "problem" with installation would be corrected with a newer version.

I have started going thru the process listed in the KB you provided and I do have issues with my OS. So will work on correcting those problems and will retry.

I may just have to do a clean install. My current system drive is too small for a Windows reinstallation (Win reports not enough free space remaining). My latest "plan" was to clone my small system SSD drive over to the new larger SSD drive...then do a Win repair. But I may just be fighting a loosing battle. Might be more productive to just backup files and start over clean.

But will pursue your KB and see where that takes me first.

Again..thanks for your assistance.

David

To upgrade from an OEM version, you need to contact Acronis Support, they can provide you with a serial number that will work with the upgrade version of TI.

Need help restoring old backups!
I have several older hard drives that I used for backup using Acronis True Image 9.0.
I now need to access some critical information on these drives.
I tried installing my licensed copy of 9.0, but I keep getting an error message that says:
"The installer was interrupted before Acronis True Image could be removed. You need to
restart the installer to try again."
I tried copying the files over to my current hard drive so I could set the compatibility to
an earlier version of Windows -- I tried 7, Vista and XP to no avail!
I tried this with both the setup.exe file and the .MSI file, as well.
What do I need to do to recover my files from these old hard drives?

Due to a system disk problem I need to restore backups made by ATI2009 and 2012.

I have tried reinstalling both programs but both end in rollback. Initially ATI produced message "TIB files not ATI archives" which is rubbish.

I gather the few lines before "Return value 3" show the problem so I include them below.

After uninstalling 2016 I tried to reinstall 2013 but the install erred out and rolled back.

Nick,

I'm assuming you may have solved th eproblem by now, but if not, how did you uninstall TI 2016? If by Windows Add'Remove programs, you are btter off by running the TI 2016 installer and if 'uninstall' is shown as an option use this to completley remove 2016. If it doesn't, then I beleive the TI 2015 Cleanup program will work for 2016.

Read the instructions carefully before running the Clenaup utility.

Hi!

The 64-digit serial number which I was issued on your site is not accepted during Acronis True Image HD installation procedure, no matter how many times I might try to paste it in. What should I do??

Thanks.

Dmitry

Is the 64 an upgrade version requiring the input of a piror serial? If an upgrade, you need two serials.

If the full version, try registering the serial with Acronis before installing.  Do use the copy/paste method.

When copying into the clipboard, be sure and do not include any extra spaces.

No, I don't think it's an upgrade, I actually got it as an add-on / bonus bundle when I purchased an A-DATA SSD drive. After registering the product (the drive) with A-DATA company, I went to the Acronis site and got registered there as well, after which I was able to get the link and download Acronis True Image HD. I actually was given two more things in teh process: some 16 Digit Stub Key (which looks like, say, this: EC...VFS-3XQ...AY) and also Activation (Serial) 64-digit key. Not sure if what I am trying to tell sounds entirely reasonable and coherent, but, well, that's where I am atthe moment. And thanks for trying to help!

Hello Dmitry,

I've checked your license key and would recommend you to contact the hardware manufacturer whose product contained the Acronis OEM software, as they are best equipped to understand the specific OEM application as well as the relationship between the Acronis software and their product.

Thank you,

I downloaded ATI HD 2013 OEM as a free download from Adata website.  The software came with a 16 digit key, but the installation requires a 64 digit key.  I used the "Get Key!" button and registered on the Acronis website, then received a 64 digit Serial Number.  That doesn't work either.  What am I doing wrong?
