Product Installation Issues

Hi
Try Macrium Reflect. I use it in my new Thinkpad and I have even tried to restore it's image, works very well. I own several TIH-versions, but after v2012 failure (installation rollup and it didn't boot anymore) I still have v2011 installed in desktop, it's ok.

@Paul,
What were you upgrading from?
I think the clue is that the activation server was unavailable and that has caused your problem.
I suggest trying again, and if that doesn't work, try this direct link

Installed new ATIH 2012 over existing ATIH 2011 package this morning on my Win7 x64 Pro system. When I rebooted, boot hung on Windows screen just before asking for password. Hard rebooted and came up in the standard Win error has occurred. Chose "boot windows normally" and the system booted fine. ATIH 2012 seems to be working OK. However, I notice when I look choose to view the ATIH 2012 event log I find the following message 3 times (only the time stamp changes):
"Failed to find information about operating system in Master Boot Record".
It seems to backup and validate my Drive C + system reserve OK. Any ideas what this information message means?

Error - True Image Home 2012 - Uninstallation Incomplete
My issues started in purchasing a Seagate 2.5" 500GB notebook hard disc with separate external USB case with intent to use the Seagate Discwizard to clone the new HDD and replace in Dell notebook.
The Seagate HDD has been registered with Seagate.
Down loaded the Seagate Discwizard but could not run software as error message stated that there was no found Seagate device - why ? The documentation which arrived with the Seagate HDD was "shintaro" with box having 2.5" External HDD Drive.
Tried to install other free clone software where True Image Home 2012 was installed but was not operating so tried to uninstall. Message now reports that software cannot be uninstalled.
Attached is the screen error message.
Appreciate if anyone can offer any suggestions
Regards
Bradzo

Bradzo,
Have you contacted Seagate about your problem? DiscWizard although based on TIH will have alterations made to it by Seagate and they are supposed to support this version of TIH.
I'm a little puzzled, are you trying to install TIH 2012 over the top of Seagate Diskwizard? As far as I'm aware DiskWizard is based on TIH2009.
Shintaro is a brand name, so is your USB drive a Shintaro brand?
Until I get home I can't view docx files, so I haven't viewed that yet.

I have a problem with 2012, will not load even with the new build 6131 to 6154, by the time I realized that I had a problem w/12 any conversation with Acronis support expired. I just really want to use cloning but when I tried to use any other sub set they will not load either. I have been an ardent supporter of Acronis from 2009 w/7 registered products. If this is what happens I guess this will be my last. Fortunately I did a clone prior to the 2012 install as I'm dead in the water now. Thanks Acronis for the wasted hour’s tiring to install and re install 2012.

Tom,
Have you tried a repair install of 2012?
It is advisable to perform cloning from the recovery CD if you are cloning the OS drive.
What do you mean by you are now 'dead in the water', are you saying that you now can't boot into your system or just that 2012 itself won't work?
Do the tasks actually run but the GUI doesn't open?

There is no fool like an old fool, and that must be me!
Why should I say that; well, I have carried out a trial, and purchased a licence, twice, for True Image Home, version 2012!
The first trial/purchase was carried out in December of last year, with an older PC, which I have now replaced!
I thought that the problems, that I had experienced, may have been due to my old PC, and that I would give, 2012, another chance, with my new PC!
Basically, the problems, I experience, first time around, only occurred when I installed the licence key, which I purchased!
The Trial version, without the licence key, worked perfectly; the version with the licence key installed was a disaster!
Full details of the first trial can be found on the following link:
http://forum.acronis.com/forum/24547?page=3#comment-85455
Surprise, Surprise; exactly the same thing happened, with my most recent trial evaluation, and licensed version!
With the unlicensed (Trial) version, I created and restored a full backup of my boot drive (a 120 GB Solid State Drive – SSD).
This drive is dedicated to my operating system, Windows, 7, 64 bit, with no personal data!
The Trial back-up used normal compression, and verification was selected!
No problems were experience with backing up, or restoration – my PC appeared to function perfectly, after the restoration!
Again, with the Trial version, I created a full backup, of my personal folders, which are contained on a dedicated conventional hard drive!
This time I selected “Differential Backup”; again with normal compression, and with auto clean up and “e-mail Notification”, both selected.
Several differential backups were created, and in every instance the program worked perfectly; each time sending a notification, which was received by my mail account!
As with my operating system, as final proof, I restored, my data, just to prove the program was working – perfect!
In both the above cases, images were saved to an independent, conventional hard drive!
Following insertion of the licence key (no other changes), I carried out a differential backup of my personal folders!
Surprise, Surprise; no “e-mail Notification”!
Thinking that it may not have been sent, I checked the Log; yes, this stated that the back-up was successful and that message had been sent!
Pressing the Test e-mail dispatched an e-mail, which was received by my e-mail account. Very odd!
I carried out many further tests, including deleting the task, and creating a new task, but all with the same result – No “e-mail Notification” message, except when I initiated an e-mail test!
At this stage, I decided to restore my previous operating system, from an Acronis image, which was created with version 2011, immediately prior to installing version 2012.
I thought that this would verify the previous version (2011) could send “e-mail Notifications”!
Normally, I always back-up, and restore my operating system, using the Acronis Bootable Media; however, I thought that, on this occasion, I would restore, from within Window, using 2012.
This had worked successfully, with the unlicensed version, restoring the image created by 2012!
I opened “Explore and Recover”, and continued by selecting the pre 2012 operating system image.
I then selected the appropriate destination – the Boot SSD.
Next, I clicked proceed, and was greeted with a message, something on the lines of:-
“Cannot proceed; not sufficient disc space”! What rubbish!
Being a little concerned (Alarmed), at this stage, I decided to use the Acronis Bootable Media (Version 2011), which had not let me down in the past!
Yes, this started OK, and the restore process completed, and I rebooted my PC!
This is where Alarm, turned to Panic!
Having removed the Acronis Bootable Media, and allowed my PC to re-boot, I was greeted with the following message:-
“The boot Selection Failed Because a Required Device is Not Available”
At this point, and in desperation, I contacted the manufacturer of my PC (Chillblast UK), who kindly assisted me with a clean install of Windows 7, using the Windows CD ROM.
Initially, everything looked fine. My PC booted up normally, but a little slower than usual!
Closer examination, however, using Disk Management, confirmed a disaster.
The operating system had been installed on my 1 TB conventional hard drive, rather than the boot SSD; in fact, there was no evidence of a SSD on my computer – it had disappeared!
Fortunately, I have Drive Recovery software CD (Paragon), which I booted from!
This, allowed me to view all of my drives, including the SSD boot drive!
In desperation, I decided to delete/format the SSD, using Paragon, and this subsequently allowed me to restore the Acronis image, which I created before installing TIH 2012!
On this occasion, I used the Acronis Bootable Media for version 2011, of TIH!
Problem solved; the operating system was restored to the boot SSD, and my system has been restored!
The purpose of this screed, is not to belittle Acronis True Image Home 2012, but to draw these failings to the attention of Acronis; I hope they read this, and acknowledge that this version is floored!
Acronis, please note that when I contacted your chat facility, asking for a refund, I did offer a detailed explanation (something on the line of this) to your representative – the offer was not taken up! How are you going to make good, if you don’t listen to users observations

Same problem I have right now and thanks I found the right things to do and to know.

Hi Anton,
Thank you for message!
I would have liked to have sent Acronis my observations privately, but your e-mail service limits the number of characters quite stringently; my aim was to make you aware of my experiences; not discredit this program!
I have been a user of Acronis TIH since it became publicly available; many years, and have always found it the most user friendly of all available products!
What I cannot understand, is why I have not experience problems with 2011, on either my old PC, and my new one; yet with both, I have experienced problems with 2012, and only when I insert the licence key!
Prior to installing the key, I was very impressed with the new version (Not very keen on the new opening screen), as it is more logical, and easier to create back-up routines !
Another issue, I would like to point out to you, which even applies to 2011, relates to the Acronis Bootable Media.
My new PC has two Solid State Drives (Both 120 GB - Not Raid) = Plus a 1 TB conventional drive, and two external HDDs!
If I boot with the Acronis Bootable Media, only one SSD is visible, plus the 1TB HDD, plus my two external hard drives; I cannot see the second SSD (except with the Paragon boot media, previously mentioned).
I never created a Acronis Bootable Media, for the 2012 version!
Both SSD's are visible, with Acronis (both version), when looking within Windows!
Finally, yes, I have a full refund!Thank you!

I uninstalled the latest trial version of Acronis and then found my Windows 7 BackUp and Restore hyperlinks were not working. Consequently I could not schedule back ups using Windows. I contacted customer support (which necessitated a long and laborious registration process). Now I am posting here despite the hours and days I have been trying to fix this problem. Looking at the posts I gather the same problem has existed from at least 2009 and still no fixes forthcoming from Acronis (although they have made several attempts which are reported as not working). DO NOT USE ACRONIS PRODUCTS. . .

An update to my last post: when I was forced to register to post these comments I specifically check the option which said "Do not send me any offers" (I'm paraphrasing). Lo and Behold, when I just checked my email, I found an offer for "just $49.95 etc". Let me restate my Acronis experiences:
1. On a suggestion found on the Internet I downloaded and installed a trial version of Acronis home software.
2. Not liking the program, I immediately uninstalled it after first making a back up of my C drive.
3. I then was not able to access my Windows 7 Back Up and Restore.
4. I spent hours seeking solutions, none of which worked.
5. I read some of the Acronis forum posts of hundreds of users having the same problem.
6. The posters talked about their, and Acronis', unsuccessful efforts to resolve the problem. One poster gave a complex solution involving the Windows Registry and changing Administer rights to modify a registry entry corrupted by the Aconis install and uninstall (many hours have now passed).
7. I undertook the task of registering with Aconis (more time) and specifically requested that they do not use my registration to hype their products by emails.
8. I took more time to write my previous post warning people about this product.
9. Opened my email after writing the post and found the sales pitch.
10. Have invested more time writing this update of my Acronis experiences.
11. I am still marveling how the Acronis web site highlights their company name, Acronis, as not recognized as I type these posts. What does this say about the creditability of this company.
How does this company stay in business - they should pay me for trying their product.
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können

I agree 100% with your statement about wondering how they stay in business with the release of 2012. I "tried" to install the 2012 trial being a registered user of True image 11.. and it never would install and talk about a freakin' hassle in getting my system back up and running. I keep checking back on these forums and see pretty much that nothing has changed. In fact my last post "bad mouthing" this product was deleted and it was nothing compared to what you wrote. So frustrating to see all the problems with Acronis.. I've been a loyal user for many, many years.. but I'll continue to wait out this version till it's working properly.. if ever.

To return Windows Backup, you need to disable integration before uninstalling. Integration should only occur if was selected by choice.
You will need to re-install deselect integration (from the help menu) and then uninstall. Alternatively you can play with registry settings, but the above is easier.

Finally, latest build of TIH 2012 did install successfully. First builds didn't install at all, as I have written in the beginning of this thread. But, USB-connections disconnect and connect by themselves without any obvious reason several times a day. To some extent, it has happened with TIH2011 too. When it happen's, machine freezes, you just have to wait to get keyboard and mouse connected again. Some USB-sticks' recognition is very slow and one Kingston didn't work at all in my desktop (claims the filesystem to be raw), but no problems in laptop (Thinkpad). Difference is, that I use (free) Macrium Reflect in my new Thinkpad. In older threads there seem to be same stories. SnapApi conflict?
I did remove TIH2012 and now the desktop is working just fine.
I have TIH's notebook-version in my Ideapad mini, and it loses USB-connections too. Must try uninstalling the software.
Sadly, I had to give up with PowerDesk and Nuances PDF Converter and now True Image. All of them have some major problems in newest versions, which the software company can't repair. Win7 64bit is too complicated ? Do you really have to constantly find new sexy features, which don't work ?
Well, now to Macrium's shop to buy licenses.
PowerDesk -> Xplorer2
OmniPage and PDF Converter -> Abbyys FineReader and PDF Transformer
TrueImage -> Macrium Reflect
All paid versions, no pirate software in my machines.

I am not a PC expert. I just down loaded Acronis True Image Home 2012 (English) and the Plus Pack. All went OK. How do I now install it? I found some information stating that I should run the installation from the installation folder. I don't know where to look for this so called folder. There was no ICON put on my PC for me to run the install. I am lost. Please help me.

Ted,
Just double click on the 2012 installer file, which will be in whatever folder you downloaded it to.
You need to install 2012 first and then the Plus Pack.

Thanks to all the users and Acronis folks for posting in this thread! I thought I was goig a bit nuts when I attempted to install the upgrade to TIH 2012 on my wife's business PC (XP Pro SP3) and found thatafter the install hung my machine would no longer boot! I don't think I've *ever* had that happen with an install of any other product...
Over the last 12 or so hours, I've tried every suggestion in this thread to get the upgrade installed, including Francis Jaworski's finely detailed script, Colin's suggestions, and all the other suggestions posted above. All to no avail - each of the four times I attempted the installation, it dies with about 2 bars left (same *exact* spot as shown in Sandy's post on the first page of the thread). Each time, the PC fails to boot Windows following the failure. Fortunately, I was able to re-install TIH 2011 and get that version working again.
It's time to raise the white flag and return the PC to its by-now-impatient owner. I'll follow this thread occasionally, hoping that I can someday safely upgrade to a newer, improved version of my trusted backup partner's software.
Best of luck to all,
Brad

TIH 2010 Will Not Install on New Computer.
I have recently bought a new computer with Win/7 and tried to uninstall TIH 2010 from old Win/XP machine. I thought it worked, but now I cannot install on Win/7--it insists that I have an "old key" to enter in addition to the current product key.
In migrating, I copied everything from my old computer to the new, and evidently there is some kind of residual data left over from the uninstall. Apparently, what I need is some kind of "un-register" option to rid myself of vestiges of the previous install.
I have exhaustedly researched this problem through these forums, and can't find any help for this particular problem. I've tried all the suggestions I could find, like clearing the registry of references to Acronis and True Image, to no avail.
Can someone please help me? Thanks for reading.

Paul,
Is your copy of 2010 an upgrade from an earlier version of TIH or Seagate/WD DiskWizard? If it is an upgrade over an ealier version of TIH, just download the old serial number from your account, assuming you registered it. If it over the top of DiskWizard, you'll need to re-install that and then install 2010.
On the other hand if your copy of TIH is a full copy, then maybe using the 2010 registry cleanup tool will get you going again. Don't use the cleanup tool until you are certain of what type of TIH installer you have.

Greetings
Just bought ATIH 2012 b6131
Removed older 2012.
Tried to install and failed.
Found KB14871, downloaded 2012 cleaning tool, cleaned every trace of acronis from hard disk and registry.
restarted and failed again.
log file attached.
What I don't understand is this:
the program I bought (ATIH2012_6131_en-US.exe) when clicked gives only the options to modify, repair or remove.
What is wrong with install?
Please help

zivshosh,
Build 6131 is not the most recent build, did you have build 5545 installed previously or an ealier version 2011/2010 perhaps?
I've looked at your installer log, the only thing that jumps out at me is at one point it seems to have found v15.0.6999 installed, which doesn't seem possible.
You might need to try and install your old version again before attempting to install the later build.
If you have registered your purchase download the latest build (6154) from your account. You should be able to install over the top.
Start the TIH installer program with Admin permissions (right click and select 'Run As Admin'), then select 'Remove'. If that fails try the modify option.
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können

Thanks for the quick reply.
downloaded b6154 (yesterday when I bought ATIH2012 I was given a link to b6131...).
used also 2011 cleaning tools.
Nothing helped so far.
Is v15.x a version of True Image or some other Acronis product, since I also tried Disk Director v11 and who know what else?
Is there a cleaning tool for 2010? I started with this version.
Tried to follow the class {77DDEEB4-CBF4-4B4C-8366-07E8CC03692B} in registry to understand which product disturbs acronis from installing
but I'm reluctant to delete all occurrences of this class.
So I'll do what you finally suggest: go back in time to when true image was installed (with last backup and rescue disk) and see what happens.
thanks again

problem solved by recovering (using true image rescue disk of course) and activating trial version

Zivshosh,
Internally 2012 is listed as v15, but it's marketing name is TIH 2012.
So, I take it you are upgrading from 2011 is that correct?
First, make sure you deactivate the Secure Zone, Acronis Start Up Manager and Try and Decide if you enabled them before attempting to uninstall 2010.
There was a cleaner for 2010 but it is no longer available as Microsoft withdrew one of the utilties it used. I think the 2012 cleaner can be used on 2010,2011 and 2012. Check the Acronis knowledge base article on that point.
So, have you tried re-installing 2010? It may well fail if part of 2012 has installed but left bits of 2010 lying around.
Make sure your user temp file is as empty as Windows will allow. The quickest way to find it is, press the Windows Button + r and type in %temp% this will automatically open your temp folder.

Tried multiple times to install build 6154. I currently have TIH 2011. It has been running without issue since original release last year.
I started by creating a manual restore point so I could get back to where I was originally.
After update was successful I rebooted. After login, pc would not bring up desktop. Welcome screen only showed with spinning arrow. After 8 minutes screen went black with a cursor and no icons. Waited 15 minutes longer. No further change. No disk activity.
Rebooted. Desktop appeared after 30-45 seconds with icons. However, I had no capablity to run anything. Task Manager unresponsive. Couldn't open Computer panel. After 2-5 minutes, any operation I had tried to run produced an error saying the service or device is not available. Looked like excessive load of some type. Unable to do any diagnostics.
Rebooted in safe mode and restored to previous restore point. All is well.
Repeated above using a full uninstall of Acronis including a registry cleanup, a temp file cleanup, etc. No change in results.

Thomas,
I think the problem is more likely to be software based.
Do you have any problem device drivers showing up in Device Manager?
Do you have Bitlocker enabled or any other drive compression software?
I wonder if the RAID driver is causing the problem.
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können

I don't use bitlocker.
All device drivers are good. No issues. Problems only started after upgrading to 2012. I currently am running 2011. I saved a restore point prior to upgrading and backed out by restoring in safe mode using system restore.
Version 2011 has no issues with the raid. And the only reason the raid driver is installed is for Intel Smart Response Technology. The ssd drive is attached as cache to the D: drive where most of my data is.
FYI, I did chat with tech support. Waiting for them to send instructions how and what logs to send them. I'll keep everyone posted. Since the software only fails after the update, I have to believe it's a problem with Acronis.
I've been using Acronis since 2008 both at home and on the servers in work. I'm in charge of monitoring backups at the university. So I'm pretty familary with the way Acronis works, both on the Home as well as the ABR versions. I'll be patient. The 2011 version is working well so I'm in no great hurry or in any critical situation.
Thanks.

On a hunch I searched for Acronis 2012 and Outpost firewall. There's someone else who found a conflict and similar issues. Going to try the auto-learn feature and see if it sets itself up all by itself.
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können

Thomas, just be aware that the drivers in 2012 are different to those in 2011, they've been renamed and now live in a different place in registry. The new virtual driver is loaded on Windows startup, which can cause conflicts with other disk filters that also are loaded on startup.

I just did a minor update to the firewall tonight and started with a new configuration file for the firewall. I'll try the install again tomorrow with auto-learn on. I'm trying to get the firewall to see the processes that are running so it can adapt.
Also looking at Agnitum's forum for hints.

The installation of True Image Home 2012 fails because I have no internet access
or more exact I'd need to tell the True Image Installer which proxy + port to use to access the internet.
Is it possible to install the tool offline and configure the port and proxi in the installed TrueImage
or it possible to pass a proxy and port to the TrueImage Installer?
Thanks in advance!

M.Maier,
You should be able to install without an internet connection it is just the activation that poses a problem. there is a web based activation link, which I don't have to hand at the moment (though it is in another recent post of mine).
You can ignore the 'checking for updates' that the installer tries to perform by just clicking on 'install' this overrides the update check.

Please advise how I can change the the Setup Settings shown in the Setup Summary Screen during the start of Installation, just after entering the Serial Number?
I wish to change the Destination Folder, and I wish to Install for a Single User. However the option to press BACK button (to change my settings) only takes me back to the Serial Number entry screen.
I have attempted to install ATIH2012 twice now on a virgin Dell desktop. On both occasions the Installation software DID NOT prompt me for these two settings. Somewhere there is a default Setting being applied, which includes:
- Destination: C:\Program Files\Acronis

Please help me A) change these settings, and B) modify your misleading/erroneous Installation Dialog. It currently says, "If you want to review or change any settings, click Back. If you are satisfied ........click Proceed."

- Install for: All Users
Please help me A) change these settings, and B) modify your misleading/erroneous Installation Dialog. It currently says, "If you want to review or change any settings, click Back. If you are satisfied ........click Proceed."
Cheers

I have been trying to install the ATIH2012_6154 update over build 5545 and I get error saying installation failed and Fatal error during installation. No error number. Clicking on the Knowledge Base article link in the error box says there is no information about this error. I am attaching the error log hoping that will help reolve this issue.
I am using Win7 Pro SP1 and all current updates, with 4gig RAM and only Bitdefender Internet Security 2012 running in background.
Thanks for any and all assistance
Larry

Larry,
I'm not able to look at your install file at this moment.
Try again with BitDefender disabled (though it should not be having a problem with BD).
If that still fails, you can extract the MSI file by right clicking on the 'Install True Image' icon, this saves the actual installer file and allows you to use this rather than using the Acronis install interface, so this might work.

I got the issue resolve by uninstalling build 5545 and doing a fresh install with build 6154, thanks to the suggestion of Chandra Chood in support.

It tried the retail boxed version about 4 times, the online download and the trial version. None would install. They all did the roll back thing.
I turned off my SUPERAntiSpyware Professional program. Then I tried the the boxed version again and the install worked like it should.
My suggestion for those who are having install problems, turn off you anti-spyware, anti-virus and anti-malware programs while installing Acronis.

Hello Joe,
Thank you for finding time to leave a comment with this useful information.
the cause of such behavior are low-level drivers used by the third party protection software. These drivers prevent ours from getting installed, and thus the installation rolls back.
That's why we always strongly recommend to temporary disable any third party protection software like antiviruses, firewall, backup solutions, etc. before running an installation.
Thank you for sharing your feedback, and experience with the others!
