"All-In-One VMware Appliance" add local storage to Acronis Backup Appliance

Thread needs solution

In your Knowledge Base https://kb.acronis.com/node/61007 is explained, how to add local storage to the Appliance.

But everything I try, will not work. Every time I add the partition to /etc/fstab the system wilt not boot and stops with the message: Faild to start Crash recovery kernel arming.

In the yournalctl I found these messages!

Feb 28 12:59:22 AcronisAppliance-B8D9A systemd[1]: Job dev-sdb1.device/start timed out.
Feb 28 12:59:22 AcronisAppliance-B8D9A systemd[1]: Timed out waiting for device dev-sdb1.device.

In one of my tests, I used the UUID instead of /dev/sdb1 and it works. But now, in my new test, I did not get it working again. Have yo any solution for my problem.

And in the Knowledge Base, you better replace the command fdisk with the command parted. With fdisk you can only make partitions with a maximum size of 2TB.

I tested it under VMWare ESXi 6.5 and VMWare Workstation 11.1.3 every time the same problems! I uploaded the complete result of the journalctl

I hope I have described it ok? My English is not my preferred language!

Hi Christian,

I was the original author of the https://kb.acronis.com/node/61007 and since I'm not really a Linux guy there could be inconsistencies in it :( Our Linux experts will be reviewing this article in order to make corrections and provide better guidance. While this work is in progress, please contact our support team for assistance with the issue.

P.S. Attaching the local storage practically means just "adding a new disk to CentOS Linux", e.g. there is no All-in-One Appliance specifics - it's pure CentOS with practically no customizations. In other words if one knows how to attach a new disk in CentOS then he can do the task.

P.P.S. Apparently such simple task as adding a new disk is not that simple in Linux world.

Thank you.
