Restoring backup job files
My configuration is to create a full version after every 9 incremental versions and store no more than 2 recent version chains.
I had a Microsoft problem that required me to reload my PC back to factory default. Prior to reloading I created an Entire PC backup. The first program I installed was ACP. I had saved my Acronis settings prior to performing the reload and I applied those settings to ACP. This took place 08/25/23, so what I am getting ready to describe may not be totally accurate, since it is from memory.
When I restored my settings all of my jobs appeared, but none of the jobs had any data and needed to be reconfigured. I had a test job that I was playing with trying to figure out how to recover the backup files. I am not sure what I tried, but the final solution was to use Windows File Explorer to have Acronis validate a backup string. Each backup has two strings, so I selected the latest incremental file to validate. When I did the entire string appeared in the appropriate backup job. Since I was missing the first completed string I then selected the latest incremental file of that string and validate. When it finished I had both strings and most everything has seemed to work correctly since. My first question is:
Was this the correct procedure to recover the backup strings?
As I said this reload was started 08/25/23. I have had a problem with two of the backups and I am sure I somehow caused the problem. The first one I resolved and I am not sure why the problem occurred. With the second problem I looked more closely and discovered that an old incremental file was not deleted when the string containing that incremental file was deleted. In looking closely at the file names I now realize that the log shows that the "To file is inc_b52_s3_v1.tib", but the file it created was "inc_b52_s3_v1-2.tib". The file "inc_b52_s3_v1.tib" was the last file created prior to me starting the reload. When I tried to perform this backup, after the reload, I got the message "Cannot find 1". I assumed it meant that it could not find "full_b52_s3_v1.tib", but it was there. When it was time to delete the string it deleted the entire b52 string minus "inc_b52_s3_v1.tib". My second question is:
I will accept that I probably did something wrong, but I am not sure what, but why would it not delete "inc_b52_s3_v1.tib" and why did it complete the b52 string, complete the b53 string, start the b54 string and when it was time to create "inc_b54_s7_v1.tib" start looking for "full_b52_s3_v1.tib"?
To my way of thinking "Cannot find 1" error message is not informative. I probably selected "ignore" thinking that the file in question was there, which probably resulted in the file "inc_b52_s3_v1-2.tib" being created.
I am attaching log files showing what happened.
