Acronis Disk Director 12 Damaged My Computer's Boot Sector.
I used Disk Director 12 to create a new partition on my hard-drive. That worked fine and I copied a bunch of files to the new partition.
I then created two more partitions. When the computer restarted, Windows 10 Professional would no longer boot. The computer starts, then displays "Preparing Automatic Repair". After a few seconds it then displays "Diagnosing Your PC". That shows for a few seconds and then the computer reboots. This cycle repeats itself continuously until I power down the computer.
I created a bootable USB drive with Acronis True Image 2017 installed, and then booted the computer from the USB. I tried restoring from a full backup which took several hours (it's a 2TB drive). The restore says it was successful but when I rebooted the computer the same cycle described above still occurred.
This has been going on for 4 days, over which time I have restored the computer 6 times. The MBR does not restore even though I selected it for a couple of the restores. I have tried everything I can think of but the computer is basically an expensive brick at this stage.
What I want to know is, how would Disk Director damage the boot sector and secondly, why won't the restores work? There's not much point having backup software that won't restore a disk image when needed!

Steve, operations with disks and partitions, including partition creation, resizing, system recovery and others, may fail if there is a problem with the environment: corrupted file system, bad sectors, issues with disk controller and other problems that may reveal itself only in certain situations and show no symptoms during normal system usage.
Even though you have rebuilt Windows, I would recommend you still checking the hardware health as described in this post.

Hello Bob,
C: drive can be shinked and expanded on Windows 10 just like on any other supported operated system. Let us check what could have gone wrong on your case: open a support ticket.

In reply to Wow- just by truwrikodrorow…

Hello,
It's too late for you, but I have had the same problem on a Dell laptop computer : impossible to shrink Windows 10 partition with DD12 B3270, and even with Windows Disk Management.
The problem was the presence of (non movable files).
To shrink Windows partition, you ahe to delete all your Windows Restauration Points.
