Acronis Loader will boot disk endlessly

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have Acronis True Image 2016. Yesterday I want to restore my PC to an old time point. However, it seems that Windows Update also download some updates that requires restart.

Then, after I click “Restart Computer” in the restore process, my computer restarts, then in the BIOS boot screen, the hard disk cannot boot successfully, it will try to boot, then restart and go into the BIOS boot screen again and again, endlessly.

I try to click “F12” to set the boot device. However, whichever device I set, I will always enter into the BIOS boot screen endlessly. No device can boot successfully. I even try to boot from a DVD to reinstall Windows, but that still cannot boot successfully.

How to fix the problem?

Thanks

Chonwei Chen, sorry but this is one of the reasons why it is not recommended to start a Recovery / Restore operation from within Windows.  In order to do so, Acronis has to modify the Windows Boot Configuration BCD files to create a temporary Linux OS environment from which to launch the offline Acronis application to do the restore.  If anything go wrong with this action then you are left as you find yourself with an unbootable computer.

Do you have a copy of the Acronis bootable Rescue Media that you can try to boot from?

If you do not, then sign in to your Acronis Account and download the Rescue Media .ISO file and burn this to a CD or use such as Rufus to make a bootable USB stick (FAT32 format & less than 32GB in size).

If your BIOS is UEFI with Secure Boot enabled, then disable Secure Boot when trying to boot from the Rescue Media.

You should be able to recover the Windows BCD files from your full Disk & Partitions image file.

The alternative here would be to boot from a Windows Install DVD or USB media and try doing a Startup Repair.

Hi,

Thanks. I choose to boot from Windows because with the boot disk, I will always run into a crashed screen that cannot see anything at all. I also try to boot from a Windows 7 Install DVD but still lead to reboot repeatedly.

Are you able to get into the BIOS settings panels to check what options are shown there for your computer?

If you can access the BIOS, then please check whether you are offered Secure Boot (for UEFI systems) and disable this if it is turned on, as this can prevent the Acronis Rescue Media from being able to boot correctly.

Another option that you may wish to try would be to reset the BIOS settings to Defaults but I would recommend making a note of the current settings (or taking screen shots of the settings) in case you need to change any of the default settings.  Note: if you have UEFI BIOS then your first boot device should be the Windows Boot Manager.
