Invisible backup in Windows

Thread needs solution

Hello !

I create a disk image of my hard drive with a bootable CD of Acronis True Image 2016. This work runs smoothly and normally have validated. Then, when I launch windows, the image created is invisible in windows and it is yet present by looking at the number of bytes occupying the partition. I regularly use this software without problem for several years. I'm currently on windows 10. I have never encountered this problem before.

I installed the software Acronis True Image on my hard drive but I only use the bootable CD that I created from the software. Can you advise me so that I can again see my backups in the windows tree ?

Thanks a lot

Best regards

JP

Jean-Paul, welcome to this user forum.

I would suspect that you have Windows Fast Start enabled and that you shutdown the computer to boot from your ATIH 2016 Rescue CD media when the system was actually in a hibernation state due to Fast Start, instead of being fully shutdown.

This has been seen previously in the forum and shown to be the case because the NTFS file system Master File Table (MFT) which was restored when Windows was restarted from the hibernated state has no record of the Acronis .TIB file that you created with the boot media.

You must either disable Windows Fast Start or else do a Restart to boot from the Acronis boot CD so that the system is not in a hybrid / hibernation state when you make your backups.

Hello Steve,

Thanks a lot. I'll test your advice. However, I have made no change in my computer's configuration or in my Acronis usage patterns. Usually, I found the backup created in the forlder selected after booting directly on the CD. But the transition to Windows10 was able to change my configuration.....

I'turn off the Windows Fast Start and test a new backup as soon as I have some time and would not fail to inform you.

Best regards

Hello Steve,

I tested your advice and I managed to make a new backup.

Jean-Paul, thanks for your feedback, glad all is OK.

Steve, thank you for the interesting observation. I have submitted a change request for automatic detection of Windows hibernation mode by Acronis bootable environment to prevent the issue that Jean-Paul has faced in the future.

Slava, that is good news as we have seen this a few times in the forums, though none very recently that I can recollect.
