Ransomware / How to backup to Synology NAS with different user credentials?
Dear all,
could I - and how? - use TI2016 for making backups of my local Windows 10 Pro and store the backup data on my Synology NAS by using different user credentials?
I did not found a way to configure TI, and I have searched the forum but was unlucky to find the right information, probably I did not found the right search terms.
Background is the current hot topic of crypto-ransomware attacks. I want to protect my backup data automatically from access from my Windows 10 PC. Therefore I can not go on using normal file shares on my NAS any longer for this purpose.
Acronis TI needs to transfer the backup data to a remote file share by using a user account that is only used for backup and only this account must have access permission to the backup file share. Currently my TI runs under my normal user account (with local admin privileges) and that Windows account and -session has permanently mapped NAS files shares open (for photo and data etc). Therefore TI simply uses the file share access permissions of the current Windows session under my user account for access to *ALL* shared folders on my NAS.
Is there a solution and how do I need to configure TI, that it would be able to use a DIFFERENT user account for the backup destination?
Peter.
