Update Not Installing

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to update from build 5554 and the installer gets to the end but doesn't complete. Waited a long time and still see 5554. How long should it take? Tried several times and the manual download too. Have Windows 10.

User1, welcome to these User Forums.

There were a number of problems with upgrading from early builds of ATI 2017 if I remember correctly.

What is the new build number you are trying to install?  The latest build is #8058 and you should be able to download this from your Acronis account as the Full installer.  I would recommend not using the Web installer version which is much smaller, but download the full installer then check that the file checksum value is correct.

The new install should be run from an Administrator level user account to have the correct authority / permissions needed by ATI.

If trying the above does not help here, then I would recommend doing a clean install of ATI as follows:

First, make a backup of your C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder which has your backup task configuration files.  You can restore these back later but will still need to setup any scheduled backups you have been using.

Next, uninstall ATI 2017 normally via the Windows Control Panel options, then download the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link below in my signature) and run this as Administrator to remove any further residue from the old program version.

Restart the computer to complete the cleanup action, then try doing a clean install using the ATI 2017 build 8058 full installer as Administrator.

Note: at the end of the install process, do not click on the option to launch ATI but instead copy back any files you saved from the Scripts folder before any Acronis programs are started which would otherwise lock those files.

Yes build 8058. I tried all you suggested and with uninstall/cleanup tool/clean install I get the same result as before with the web and account methods. I see the installer bars get to the end (validating install/creating folders/copying new files/removing backup files) then the hard drive keeps moving for awhile then nothing happens, so I'm not seeing the option to launch ATI. Looks like it's not installed and all I see in the Acronis folder is Acronis website. Repeated install and rebooted several times. Also disabled av beforehand. Maybe there's a conflict with Windows Creator update or something?

There is no known widespread issue with installing ATI 2017 build 8058 with the Windows 10 latest updates, including the Fall Creators (1709) update - I have the same installed on several computers running this OS version.

The other suggestion at this point would be to try creating a new Admin user account and trying the install from there, in case this is related more to an issue with the current user account being used?

Got it installed now. After reading this thread I figured out to try installing from THE (built-in hidden inactive disabled) elevated administrator account:

https://www.ghacks.net/2014/11/12/how-to-enable-the-hidden-windows-10-a…

Is this normal? I haven't had to do this to install any app before. Logging out and back into my unelevated user administrator account and right clicking run as administrator didn't allow installation.

A normal Admin account should have been fine but it is possible that there is an issue with the account you were trying to install from.  Glad you have got the update installed and thanks for giving feedback.
