Hello Jacques and Gary,

Thank you for your messages. I will do my best to help you with this problem.

Currently we have a task in our Testing lab and are in the process of investigating this issue. I will however keep you posted as soon as there are any news.

I am sorry for any inconvenience and if you need additional assistance, please let me know.

Thank you.

I am also getting this error. Non-Stop Backup will not run after having installed the latest update on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Something in the upgrade has broken NSB. Trying to configure and use the Acronis products has been one of the most frustrating software experiences I've ever had, having used PCs since the initial versions of Windows (and you know how frustrating those were!). I truly regret having spent money on this software--the only response I ever get from support is "did you install the latest? here, have the latest!", and "did that fix your problem? did that fix your problem? did that fix your problem?" INCESSANTLY! NO! That latest update you sent which I already had installed did NOT fix this persistent NSB failure!

I've also noticed that once True Image detects that an update is available, the entire Acronis package goes bonkers until the update is installed. That's happened to me on the last two updates--if I click Cancel on the update notice, Explore and Recover simply hangs, the Cleanup for NSB causes True Image to crash, and who knows what else is going on. Since Acronis cannot seem to release updates without breaking the software, I've turned off automatic updates, and once this issue is squared away will not allow Acronis to automatically download/install updates. Simply ridiculous for commercial software to be so unreliable.

Matthew,

I feel your pain, although I am not as unhappy as you. That will change if it happens again, then I will return to Norton Ghost. I was reasonably unhappy with its antiquated and unintuitive interface. It took me forever to set it up and maintain it. Peter may not agree, and he may demand that I turn in my name. Lets continue this dialog via personal email.

Anton Deev, are you listening? Are you diligently working to solve the problem? Do you realize your customer base will deteriorate if the product does not perform well?

I got this error also last night when I stopped NSB for a couple hours then started it up again. Now I just tried to delete the backup and get the error 0x01030001 which has no info anywhere. Will be posting that on a new post.

I deleted the backup because I changed many things in my hard drive (backing up a data drive for many users' data, changed the way I structure that backup drive, so wanted to start 'fresh'). The backup apparently deleted the files in the NSB location, because I cannot see the directory they are in anymore, however the hard drive still reports 32GB of data that isn't there and NSB won't respond anymore.

Edit: I rebooted and NSB now is back working (no backup is present) so it looks just like it did when I installed it a week ago, but the target HD still shows 32GB of used space and no files.

I encouter three problems with Acronis True Image 2011 build 6597 :
- NSB stops with error code,
- the PC is very very very slow on start-up due to Acronis (about 15 minutes before I can work),
- Acronis needs more than ten minutes to display the backup and freezes the desktop during this time.
My OS is W7 64 bits and I have 12Gb RAM on the motherboard.
So I have unistalled Acronis and I am using others backup tools still the problem is fixed.

Seems like every other update clobbers NSB, which is the primary reason I purchased True Image. If Acronis cannot improve their record, my other computers for which I'm purchasing backup software will get Genie Timeline, and I'll replace Acronis on this machine with Timeline. This is ridiculous--I should only have to spot-check the backup program once in a while, and should not be in constant fear that my data is not being backed up. This is as bad as not having backup at all!

For now, I luckily had the previous revision of TIH, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the older version, and recreated all my backup configurations (the Import dialog did not work, as it never opened when I clicked "Import Backup Settings). NSB is current 1% into backing up my files, so I'll see where it gets...

Thanks,
Matt

I also have the error code
autobackup does not
indeed, the programme functions perfectly I have OS Windows7
also 12 GB ram, programme Acronis 2011 runs very fast
the first autobackup lasts of course very long.run

I got this issue also, Win 7 Ultimate 64, plus pack, also after pause of NSB, also HD showing usage after delete, and only after reboot was it gone from the HD...

Also, backup routine NOT easy to remove, (stuck?)

Also, no progress bar when NSB is working for the first time etc...

Also, bug in Schedule time for Disk and Partition backup, if set to 6 hours says ""Schedule: Daily, every 5 hours"" on screen...

Same problem when pausing NSB from the context menu of the taskbar icon.
=> The taskbar icon diappears.
When restarting NSB from within the main screen.
=> same error codes.

Also, would be nice to be able to program NSB to go idle at certain times for those with SSD's, SSD's need idle time for garbage collection, if backing up every 5 minutes might interfere with this process and SSD will become suboptimal.

Would like NSB to turn off between 10 pm and 6 am as an example.

Best

Well Acronis, what is the word, do you understand the problem and are you working on a fix???

Other Issues:

-Also, would be nice to be able to program NSB to go idle at certain times for those with SSD's, SSD's need idle time for garbage collection, if backing up every 5 minutes might interfere with this process and SSD will become suboptimal.

-Also, bug in Schedule time for Disk and Partition backup, if set to 6 hours says ""Schedule: Daily, every 5 hours"" on screen...

Same problem with the german version (incl. PlusPack 2011).

Every new Release we got critical probs and I´m asking how long should we wait to kick this software. The user interface isn´t intuitive. And I´m not shure with this software.

Has anyone positive experience with Norton?

Greetings: I am not certain what is most bothersome from Acronis, whether it is: 1. An unstable product, 2. Difficult use instructions, 3. Failure to address stated problems within a sponsored forum, or 4. Ignore customer inquires. I have requested a refund, but alas, I am slightly past the thirty days. Did you hear that cry in the wilderness. I should never have left Norton Ghost. It is stable, easy to use, and Norton Customer Service has always been there for me. Please get over my name, there is no bias involved with my comments. I have used Norton products from the beginning decades ago.

My recommendation; delete Acronis and try Norton Ghost for free.

Same here Acer Quad4 intel W7-32bit I'm in test phase for the software - after reading all the comments - can't say I will buy it... I like it, but it has to work otherwise no go! Sounds like Ghost is alternative, I have no bias towards any particular software, so worth investigating.

Acronis Non Stop BackUp stop without obvious reason and displays the error code : 0x00E40022+0x00000009.

I think this corresponds to last MS update for malware.

In the main time I had several other errors using ATIHome 2011!
I try to describe these errors:

1 Recovery with disaster recovery CD.:
1.1 Tools & Utilities menu (top screen) choices don’t work.
1.2 During selection '”What file/folder to recover from Nonstop Backup”
1.2.1 => “Decompression error”
(possible solution: backup without compression => but not provided in backup settings)
1.2.2 => the PC restarted without notice.

2 During differential image backup (first backup) => “You do not have the appropriate priveliges.”
Altough I run the program with ‘administrator rights’.

3 When pausing the nonstop backup, with clicking in the context menu in the taskbar icon => icon disappears
At restart the nonstop backup from within de dashboard => error event code 0x00E40022+0X00000009
After a few days: the nonstop backup do not restart after a pause.
Clicking resume => resumes and stops again after some seconds.
(note: checking KB & forum => several identical error codes reported, without -up to now- no solution)
I had to delete the nonstop backup and set up a new one.

4 Differential Image Backup validation from within the program (Windows 7 Pro), (extract from log):
=> after 6 seconds => “Operation with partition ‘0-0’ was terminated”
Details: “The archive is corrupted (0x70020°
“Tag = 0xF5F8CBCF766155663”
Event code 0x000101F6+0x00070020
=> after 4 minutes => “Operation has completed with errors”
Event code 0x013C0005
Note: backup was done to an external USB HD
A backup to the ASZ validates succeeded OK. after 10 minutes.

5 A reserve copy to an external HD failed also.

6 ASZ not always visible in Windows Explorer.

7 When ASZ is visible in Windows Explorer not possible to explore after a few days

8 The program event list (log) don’t shows the most recent events after 00:00 in the today selection.
After x hours => OK

9 Starting the program main screen results sometimes in a nearly 100 % CPU-consumation.
Program keeps “loading”.
After shutting down => “TrueImage” proces keeps running at nearly 100 % CPU.
=> I must kill the proces to end it.

10 I do backups to two different 1 TB USB-HD’s (Western Digital: ‘My Book’ & ‘Elements’).
With other backup softwares (incl. Windows), I had never problems with data transfer from&to these disks.
Using Acronis the recovery and validation ends always up with errors.
So I tried the different steps in your “Troubleshooting Issues with Corrupt Backups” =>
- memory modules OK
- plug in the USB in the front cover of the PC => same problem
- validation at boot => corrupt
- but restoring non-validated backups starts well (at boot and in Windows)
and then gives errors (which also occur with succesful validated backups!)
- backups at boot => validation OK (also to external HD!!!)
- recovering errors: –“Failed to recover file/folder”
- “Failed to modify permissions”
recovering was always done to a different location!!!
Also recovering from ASZ (with ‘NO security settings’) gives errors:
- “Access denied”
“ You are possible trying to work with other files or folders when working with
‘scriptff.dll’ (a file from McAfee residing in c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\components)
- “”Failed to recover” for ‘openofficeorg1.cab’
- .........................................................

11 When editing nonstop backup settings
=> sometimes the error message: “There is not enough free space” “54,59 GB of 80 GB free”
with an “estimated backup size of 101,4 GB”
altough their is sufficient space (eg 80 GB ASZ-space for an initial 25 GB nonstop backup size)
=> “Estimated backup size: calculating ...” keeps running without HD-read activity!?
=> Their is no possibilty to edit the first (original) configuration settings => no explorer window to select/deselect files/folders
Only the ‘exclude list can be adapted

12 Clean up nonstop backups: gives the possibility to clean all the backups before one day back,
altough their are several earlier versions (which can be recovered).

13 The email notification don’t work (even with provider username and password
(in another backup program this does work with the same settings)

14 At the end of a backup with auto-shut down:
=> "Waiting for shutdown
: ⎂Cancel/Sh⎂utdown/" module="0" time="1295051420"

15 Validation of Nonstop Backups seems not possible with the program.

16 Altough the non stop backups will be executed in 5 min. intervals, the explore/recover timeline
shows several points with the same time (2, 3 ,4...times)?

Suggestions:
1. Add an item in the context menu of Windows Explorer to be able to view deleted items in a folder.
2. Validation of nonstop backup.
3. Possibilty to adapt the nonstop configuration settings in an ‘explorer-like’ window.
4. Possibility to backup without any decompression

Thanks in advance for Acronis reply on these issues.

WOW! You have shared an extraordinary amount of detail. With so many customers experiencing similar problems, I wonder why there is no response from Acronis? A design department, which released an obviously defective and unfinished product, probably haven't a clue what to do.

Here is an unsolicited suggestion. Delete Acronis and install Norton Ghost. I have, and can honestly share that there is a barrel of differences between the two programs. It is truly amazing how much better Norton Ghost is compared with Acronis. There are many new, never used, and with an unused key, are available on eBay for substantial savings.

I plan on monitoring this forum.

same problem here in Holland; non stop backup starts and immediately pauses; i found that the virtual disk bus enumerator has been corrupted; any ideas how to get nsb to do its job again? thanx!

Hi Anton,

we are now 2 weeks later, after your message that Acronis is working on this issue; probably without any result so far? it is getting really annoying: NSB starts when I switch on the computer and then after 2 seconds it pauses; and then every now and again it tries to start up, but immediately pauses again. when will ther be a solution? i see this problem appear in all kind of forums, so it must be widespread.

Thanx for a solution soon.

Hi Anton,

I am also having problems with NSB using ATIH 2011 (with the Plus Pack). NSB never worked properly in its ATIH 2010 iteration either...not sure why I stuck with it and upgraded to 2011 but here we are...when I try to configure the NSB, I get the error codes that are the subject of this post.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and while the NSB worked once (the first time that I set it up), it is now creating tempx.data files in my profile (AppData\Local) that are 1 GB each in size, until the drive fills up. This is the same thing that NSB was doing in ATIH 2010, except that those .data files were being written to the Windows\System32 folder. I don't believe that there is anything out of the ordinary with my PC configuration (except that it is adequately fast... :-)):

Win 7 Ultimate x64
16 GB RAM
160 GB SSD
8 TB RAID 0
3 x 4TB external back up drives (e-SATA)

I am going to flatten this PC and reinstall everything to see if it fixes the issue...I will write back when I have completed that task...

When is Acronis planning on fixing this?

Thank you!

Hello all,

I want to thank you for your patience and your valuable comments.

I am sorry for any inconvenience in regards to not shedding any light on the situation. As I mentioned before, we are currently working on this issue, however, I will bring this issue to the attention of our Management team so that we can expedite the resolution.

If you need additional assistance or have any other questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

Finally, a reply, even though we "all" expected an answer/solution a long time ago. Never, in my computer use since 1965, have I experience so much incompetence from a software company. I for one have left Acronis behind and returned to the bosom of an old friend, Norton Ghost, with which I am extremely happy.

Too little, too late. In this case NOTHING! Good luck to all of you with more patience and confidence in Acronis than I have. I will withdraw from this forum. Thank you.

Best regards,
Gary S. Norton

Hey Anton:

Seems like quite a few folks have the same or similar issues.

My machine: Asus P5E; Intel Xeon 3350 Quad Core; 8 GB RAM; Win 7 Professional 64 bit - the OS is up to date; Three active drives (1 system, 2 data – 1 x 160 GB Intel SSD, 2 x 1.5 TB HDDs) and one BU Drive (either 2 TB or 3 TB - using the GUID partition table - “GPT”).

I installed ATIH 2011 (with the Plus Pack – Ver. 6597) on my machine last week and successfully ran a Full Backup of my three drives to a 1.3 TB '.tib' file on a 2 TB drive. Total Data backed up was approximately 1,587 GB. Data compression was set to 'standard'. I used a sneaker net to get that drive to my bank's safe deposit box - my version of offline storage.

Then trouble began. I tried to run NSB.

1) It stopped after 600 GB.

2) I tried again - it stopped after ~1.3 TB with the error code(s) of:
Platform type: Windows
Platform architecture: 64
Platform kernel version: 6.1.7600
Platform language: 0x0409
Product name: Acronis True Image Home
Product language code: 1
System manufacturer: System manufacturer (i.e.: ME)
System model: P5E (Asus MB))
Product version: 14.0.6597
Error code: 0x00E40022+0x00000009
This was automatically sent to Acronis via the internet.

I started ATIH in the NSB mode again this AM – and it continued writing to the disk. The disk now contains 2.5 TB of data (sic).

My next move is to rinse the 3 TB drive of data (i.e. reformat it) and set up a schedule of Full and Incremental backups. But that negates the benefits of NSB – that is non-stop backups! This is no good!

As I look at the notes above. They seem to be a very experienced and sophisticated group with high end machines. My own programming experience was on an IBM 709 with 8k of core memory – and eventually to the whole gamut of PCs starting with an Apple II (I purchased a 32KB ram expansion pack for ~$800 – ouch!) through ATs, 386s etc. etc.) If this group cannot get ATIH 2011 to work, pity the poor average consumer. I hope AND expect that you will come to a solution presently.

I have three questions about NSB: 1) Is the backup data compressed? 2) What happens to NSB when the machine goes to sleep? 3) Do you expect NSB will ever have a quiet period for SSDs to do their cleanup?

Thanks

JHH

Anton:
Here are the Error Codes that popped up tonight.

0x00E40021

Joy to all!

I also now have this problem. I have had marginal success with Acronis products and wish you would please get the bugs worked out.

On the other hand, my Complete Backup, Saturday, and the subsequent two days (Sunday, Monday) of incremental backups have gone perfectly.

That may be my solution.

After exhaustive testing ATIH2011 I decided to switch to Norton Ghost 15.

I have used Norton Ghost V.10 quiet a long time.
Newer versions resulted in some problems, so I changed to Acronis which worked well (2009 version).
But the 2010 update was no good (in the mean time I changed also from XP Pro. to Windows 7 Pro).

So I decided to give Genie Backup software a try.
This image software has workend fine for about one year.
The nonstop backup version (beginning 2010) didn't work very well and caused too high disk activity.
Fall 2010 Acronis came with a new nonstop backup version.
This nonstop software (server version) is now running some 3 months with a few minor errors.
I use the nonstop backup only for data (no windows, program files...).
But surprisingly the Genie image software began giving errors and restoring was no longer reliable or impossible.
(it seems that their is a compatibility problem between different Genie softwares?)
I must point out that the Genie technical customer support works very well and very fast.
But after admitting that the reported error is realy a software shortcoming, they say that the error will be managed
in future updates/upgrades. I'm still waiting for the fixes...
Further: I didn't got an explanation why the nonstop server-edition is about three times more expensive than the pro-version!
The two softwares are fully identical (even the User Manual).
The only difference: the server edition is able to do also the job when no user is logged on (service-matter)!!!

I then tried Acronis again: 2011 update.
With this version (image & nonstop) I had a lot of problems, which I described before in this forum (2010/01/11).
I asked a refund which was already credited after 2 working days!!! So no complaint about that.

Searching for a reliable image backup software I came out at, again, the actual Symantec Norton Ghost version 15.
After initial testing I can say that I have now (again) a reliable image software.
But I will use the full trial period before purchasing!

Note: when running an image backup with Norton Ghost the Genie (timeline) nonstop backup service must be stopped.
Because both backup programs use the Volume Shadow Copy service.
Stopping the service can easily be done using a batch file, which can be executed from within the Ghost backup settings.

My conclusions:
1. When new updates/upgrades are released, full software testing is necessary before using/purchasing them.
2. see: http://www.techsupportalert.com/drive-imaging-reviews.htm
"I cannot stress strongly enough that it is CRITICAL that you VERIFY image backups.
Being caught with a backup that you think is good but really isn’t, is a recipe for disaster.
Second, you MUST test that you can boot into the DOS recovery program BEFORE you actually need it.
Third, if you want to go the full mile, then you should also create a copy of your hard drive (or a logical disk)
first using a process that you have confidence in and know works. Then try to do a test restore from an image backup outside of
Windows, checking that everything works and becoming familiar with the process before a real error occurs
(and rest assured, one eventually will occur). It’s far too easy to make serious mistakes while frustrated and
under the stress of trying to restore a bad drive from DOS/Linux if you haven’t had any prior experience
doing so or working with the driving program."

Hello Anton,

How long do you think it will take Acronis' 'Management team' and/or 'computer experts' to find a solution to this still persistent problem; or is it perhaps best to ask for a refund and start looking elsewhere to find reliable software?

Even if your question is rhetorical and implies a measure of loyalty, I have to say that loyalty demands a measure of intelligence. Fact, Acronis does not live up its hype. Fact, one of its competitors does. Fact, I am completely satisfied with Norton Ghost. Thank you.

Best regards,
Gary S. Norton

Same issues here. Using English version Acronis True Image Home build 6597.

When I pause Non-Stop Backup, the tray icon disappears. When I restart the program and select the "Play" button for NSB, error code, 0x00E40022+0x00000009 is displayed. If I ignore it, the program seems to start back up.

Windows 7 Professional (x64)

Hello all,

I would like to thank everyone for their patience and persistence.

We have been able to reproduce this issue and I will get back to you with the information when this issue is going to be resolved.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Well, how about that. I do not wish to sound untoward, however, this reply by Acronis is somewhat dismaying . The one sentence, which address 25 disgruntled users, forces questions.

Should we be impressed and thankful that Acronis is able to reproduce the problem after thirty three users comment on the problem? Is one month an acceptable time to have an extensive problem recognized and reproduced?

What do you think? Are these comments inappropriate? Is Acronis appearing to address the concerns of their customers? Thank you.

Best regards,
Gary S. Norton

Running Acronis True Image Home 2011 Seems like everyday at 6pm I get an error. Usually it doesn't find the most recent update and i check retry and it finds it this is annoying but now I get error 0x00E40022+0x00000009. The set and forget concept doesn't work too well when at least every day there is an error.

If you've been working on it for over a year, where is the solution?

Hello,
Please to know that Acronis Support team was able to reproduce the error after more than one and half month.
Sorry ofr Acronis but I use the following :
- 1) Automatic synchronize and backup with Seagate Manager on one seagate external drive,
- 2) Nero backIt Up on a NAS,
- 3) Norton Ghost 15 on a second external drive.
Conclusion
- 1) Avoid Acronis still the error is not fixed, Acronis does not restore a bootable HDD.
- 2) Nero BackIt Up and Seagate Manager for data,
- 3) Norton Ghost for drive and system,
- 4) I shall probably test the Windows backup feature.
Nobody has the solution when the motherboard is changed.

Same issue here. Running 3 hard Drives.

Used the clean-up utility, then attepted to start Continuous backup again. When I hit start, it throws the error everyone else is getting.

It then hangs on 'Time remaining: calculating . . .

Never gets going again. New to this application, but not new to PC's or software. Appears to be a big bug, with large files.

Please advise.

Hi all,

Two weeks ago Anton, an Acronis moderator (see above) wrote: "We have been able to reproduce this issue and I will get back to you with the information when this issue is going to be resolved." Unfortunately it takes a hell of time for Acronis to respond to this issue and come with a solution; a few days ago there was a new version and I thought "Wow, this will be the solution", but, helas, no, the same problem persists.

Dear Anton, when do you think all these whiz kids at Acronis come up with a solution, if any?

I am having the same problem. Acronis NSB has stopped working. Acronis NSB worked the first time I ran it, but since that time, it is not working at all. Acronis NSB constantly pauses itself.

Having just read this thread for the first time, I *cannot* believe that this issue has persisted since December 30, 2010 -- now 52 days, and it took Acronis until February 1, 2011 to reproduce this problem. As of today, February 19, 2011, Acronis has failed to offer a solution. This is *totally unacceptable*. I purchased this software about 10 days ago and have been struggling with it ever since. I am now strongly considering to demand a full refund from Acronis, depending on how Acronis responds on this thread.

It seems everyone having this issue is running Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). I am running the Acronis Build 6696.

In my effort to debug this issue, I tried all of the following with no success:

1. I uninstalled Acronis True Image Home 2011 and reinstalled it (multiple times).
2. I uninstalled the Acronis True Image Home 2011 Plus Pack.
3. I scrapped my external USB 3.0 backup drive in favor of a new additional internal HDD on which to store the backups.
4. I upgraded the BIOS on my motherboard to the newest version.
5. I updated the Chipset Device Software for my motherboard.
6. I updated the RAID driver (Intel Rapid Storage Technology).
7. I even went so far as to replace my primary C:\ drive, which is a RAID 1 mirror, with fresh new Western Digital RE4 (enterprise class, RAID ready) drives.

My configuration is as follows:

CPU = Intel Core2 Quad CPU @ 2.40GHz
MOTHERBOARD = Intel DQ965GF
RAM = 8GB (4 x Avant Tech 2GB DIMM DDR2 PC2-5300U DDR2-666; 5-5-5-15 3-20-5-3)
OS = Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.01.7600)
HARD DISK (C:) : 2TB (NTFS) @ 2x WDC WD2003FYYS-02W0B 2TB (RAID1/SATA)
POWER SUPPLY = Zephyr 650W
VIDEO = NVIDIA GeForce GT 430 (96 SM5.0 1.4GHz, 1GB, PCIe 2.00 x16)
SOUND = Intel 82801H (ICH8) HD Audio Controller

I have attached a detailed SiSoftware Sandra report, which describes my specific hardware details. I also have attached screen captures of the error screens.

I would add that I'm having all the same issues as everyone else - but Windows 7 - 32 bit.

Lucky for me I was in trial mode when the errors surfaced and so I have not purchased this limpware.

Given the delay in a fix or suitable response, even if a fix surfaces, I would be hesitant to purchase without another trial period. Even then and most regrettably the software’s developers delay in response, lack of timely fix, etc... indicates to me this is not software I can be sure will reliably do what I need it for most which is to be an easily administrated safeguard and last restore solution to hard drive catastrophes.

The only saving grace that I can see is at least this program had the ability to bring the error to attention. Unlike some other software experiences I have had for same type of program solution, which failed in its duties and to announce that it was failing and not current - which is why I was testing Acronis in the first place.

Per the help files, Non-stop backup is designed to pause itself if the amount of changes is overwhelming or it is running out of space. This might apply to your cases.

Nonstop Backup - Frequently asked questions
Why does Acronis Nonstop Backup pause on its own? - This is the designed behavior of Acronis Nonstop Backup. When the system load rises to a critical level, Acronis Nonstop Backup receives the overload alarm from Windows and pauses itself. This is done to aid Windows relieve the load caused by other applications. The overload can be caused by running resource-intensive applications (for example, performing a deep system scan with your antivirus software).

In such a case Nonstop Backup automatically pauses and you cannot restart it. After pausing, Acronis Nonstop Backup gives the system one hour to relieve the load and then attempts to restart.

The automatic restart count for Acronis Nonstop Backup is 6. This means that after the first automatic restart Acronis Nonstop Backup will attempt to restart five more times with intervals of exactly one hour between attempts.

After the sixth unsuccessful attempt, Acronis Nonstop Backup will wait for the next calendar day. On the next day the automatic restart count will automatically reset. When not interfered with, Acronis Nonstop Backup performs six restart attempts per day.

The restart attempt count can be reset by doing any of the following:

Restarting Acronis Nonstop Backup service;
Rebooting the computer.
Restarting Acronis Nonstop Backup service will only reset the restart count to 0. If the system is still overloaded, Acronis Nonstop Backup will pause again. An Acronis Support Knowledge Base article at http://forum.acronis.com/forum/14958 describes the procedure for restarting the Acronis Nonstop Backup service.

Rebooting the computer will reset the load and the restart count. If the system overloads again, Acronis Nonstop Backup will pause.

Why does Acronis Nonstop Backup sometimes cause a high CPU load? - This is the expected behavior of Acronis Nonstop Backup. This may happen on restart of a paused Acronis Nonstop Backup if a considerable amount of protected data has been modified during the pause.

For example, if you manually pause the Acronis Nonstop Backup that you use for protecting your system partition and then install a new application. When you restart Acronis Nonstop Backup, it loads the CPU for some time. However, the process (afcdpsrv.exe) then goes back to normal.

This happens because Acronis Nonstop Backup needs to check the backed up data against the data that have been modified during the pause to ensure protection continuity. If there was a considerable amount of data modified, the process may load CPU for some time. After the check is done and all the modified data is backed up, Acronis Nonstop Backup goes back to normal.

Can I have Acronis Nonstop Backup storage on an FAT32 partition? - No, only an NTFS partition can be used as the storage. This limitation is due to the fact that Acronis Nonstop Backup needs the sparse file attribute to function (for example, to perform autoconsolidation). The sparse file attribute was introduced in NTFS.

Can I set up Acronis Nonstop Backup storage on a network share or NAS? - No, only internal or locally attached drives can be used. Acronis Nonstop Backup does not support network shares, mapped drives, NAS drives or any other network attached devices - neither for protection nor as a storage.

Can I set up custom clean up rules for Acronis Nonstop Backup storage? - There are no user-customizable automatic clean up rules for Acronis Nonstop Backup storage. Instead, the program uses built-in backup autoconsolidation to ensure the optimal usage of storage space.

Backups older than 24 hours are automatically consolidated. Acronis True Image Home 2011 will keep daily backups for the last 30 days and weekly backups until all Nonstop Backup storage space is used. The consolidation will be performed every day between midnight and 01:00 AM. The first consolidation will take place after the Nonstop Backup has been working not less than 24 hours. If you turn off Nonstop Backup for some time, the consolidation will start after you turn it on again. For more information see Using Acronis Nonstop Backup.

How does manual clean up of Acronis Nonstop Backup storage work? - You can clean up Acronis Nonstop Backup storage by deleting the backed up data for a certain period of time. For example, you started Acronis Nonstop Backup of your system partition on August 15, 2010. It has been protecting your partition since that day. Let's suppose that today is December 15, 2010 and your Acronis Nonstop Backup storage is almost full. You decide to clean up unnecessary data to free up some storage space. To clean up the storage, select Operations ® Clean up... on the Nonstop Backup box in the Home window. Acronis True Image Home 2011 displays a window allowing you to select a period of time for deleting the backup versions created during that period. Let's suppose that you did not make important changes to the system during a period from September 1 to December 1. Select the period and click OK. The program will delete all backup versions created during the selected period and consolidate the remaining backup versions to keep their consistency. Let's consider some cases to explain which data is deleted and which data is kept. First let's consider a system file, for example, notepad.exe. It was backed up during the initial full backup on August 15 and naturally did not change since then. In this case the file will remain in Nonstop Backup after clean up. And now suppose you installed a game on September 15, played for some time, and then uninstalled the game on October 5. In this case all files related to the game will be deleted from Nonstop Backup. One more example: you started to write your master's thesis using Microsoft Word on November 16. In this case, all thesis file versions backed up from November 16 to December 1 will be deleted and only the versions from December 2 to today will remain. To sum up the above, all data modifications made during the selected period will be lost. All files that did not change since the initial full backup made on August 15 and all data modifications made before September 1 and after December 1 will be kept.

Pat, Acronis confirmed in post #34 of this thread (http://forum.acronis.com/forum/17601#comment-56392) that Acronis has, in fact, been able to replicate this issue. The behavior complained of in this thread is, therefore, a confirmed issue and not the kind of "expected" behavior that your post above describes. I recognize that there are legitimate cases when Acronis should rightly pause NSB due to high CPU and RAM usage, but this is not the case for this particular issue.

In my case, Acronis would consistently pause itself even when CPU and RAM were in low utilization. In addition, Acronis NSB would uniformly succeed in its initial attempt to generate a full backup (as part of a NSB series), but fail in subsequent incremental backups, even though environmental conditions (CPU and RAM) were essentially identical. Acronis NSB has yet to pause itself during the initial backup.

the problem is not solved by Pat L's solution. All the above people having this same problem have of course already tried this OBVIOUS remedy, but to no avail; for Pat L.: there is no overload, so no reason for Acronis to pause. So, there we are: still waiting for the almighty Acronis software developers! we are now 3 weeks after the replication, but still no solution; are we having winter holidays at Acronis?

I'm having the same problem. While I understand the difficulties involved for the tech team in replicating the problem. It seems that there are a lot of unhappy costumers out here. It leads me to believe that there are two guys working their tails off, or management feels that they already have our money so they will fix it when they get around to it. I'd like to see this resolved. This program wasn't cheap. I think we deserve some service. Maybe, they could put four guys one the issue?

I decided to request a refund as I am still within the "30 day money back guarantee" period, and Acronis does not seem to be any closer to solving this problem.

I decided to shelve Acronis in favor of Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 Desktop Edition. I decided that Backup Exec was superior to Acronis TIH and to Symantec's Norton Ghost 15. Backup Exec does everything Ghost will do, but Backup Exec will also allow you to restore a full system to dissimilar hardware, while Ghost will not permit it. From what I can tell, Ghost and Backup Exec are otherwise identical. Ghost is the "lite" version of Backup Exec, but it is marketed under the "Ghost" brand name. I decided Backup Exec was superior to Acronis TIH NSB, because it simply would not work for me (not to mention all the pain and wasted time NSB has caused me in the last week).

If you decide to go with Ghost or Backup Exec, I believe there is an issue installing on some Windows 7 machines. In my case, I was able to install only by following the workaround here: http://bit.ly/fy5yKR. But my Backup Exec installation is now complete and looking very smooth.

And I thought I was the only one with this problem
The last time my NSB worked was over a week ago.
This is backup software for Christ's sake - it's supposed to be bullet proof - like everyone else here protection of my data is paramount to the running of my business
If there is an error then the software supplier should be getting a remedy URGENTLY, or making arrangements for refunds
It's now EIGHT WEEKS since Anto acknowledged there was a problem and THREE WEEKS since he acknowledged that they were able to replicate it and would get a solution soon.
ANTON also asked for more questions - well here's one

WHY AREN'T YOUR TEAM GETTING OFF YOUR COLLECTIVE ARSES AND DELIVERING WHAT WE'VE PAID FOR?

Please let me know if there's some part of this question you don't understand.
Norton's here I come, but not before I write to PC User magazine and point them to this forum, and call my computer supplier to let him know in no uncertain terms that the product he's recommending is as crap as the support.
Also, in the unlikely event that Anton reads this forum - are you aware that for every person who complains there are another ten who don't complain - they just go somewhere else and tell AT LEAST TEN OTHER PEOPLE.

I have been looking over Ghost and Backup exec and agree with you the Exec seems superior - my issue though is it seems you have to purchase a min of 5 licenses... I thinking of trying the trial, but I'm a single user so it gets costly...

Actually, you can buy Backup Exec for about $41 online. Just type "Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 Desktop Edition" into any major search engine, and you'll find several vendors online who will ship it to you. You don't have to buy 5 licenses. Good luck.
