Backup fails on shared network drive

Thread needs solution

I'm attempting to do an Entire PC backup to a shared network drive. It fails soon after starting with the message "The backup has failed. Please close the application that may currently use the file: ||DESKTOP\Backups\Entire PC (MEG-DESKTOP)_full_b1_s1_v1.tib"

There are no other applications running and the drive is fully accessible and I'm able to view its contents as well as read and write data to it.

Any ideas??

It sounds like another process/app is using the specified file for some reason. After you chose to proceed with the Entire PC Backup in the TI application did the machine reboot before starting the backup? Have a look at the link below, it might be of some help:

Thanks for your reply. I rebooted both machines and installed the process explorer as mentioned in the KB. I get the same error message and when searching for the file in the process explorer it doesn't find it.

I've deleted the backup set and created a new one with the same results and the network drive does not show the file as being created.

Did the TI app display a message that a reboot was required before starting the backup? Are you able to perform a smaller size backup say of a few folders to the drive? How is this networked drive attached to your network (what type of connection, USB, Ethernet, esata)? When you say this is a shared drive what exactly do you mean by that (shared how)?

No messages received concerning a reboot required. I was attempting to backup to an internal hard drive installed in a networked computer. I gave up this idea and set the backup to an external drive connected to the network router. Working now so I'll leave well enough alone. Thanks for the help!

If the destination was a drive attached to another computer, the OS of that computer might have been doing something with the file. For example, virus scanning, or search indexing, etc.

I am having the same issue. To make matters a bit more frustrating, I do not have the option for free support, because I bought the software in December. This is the first activation and installation.

The target drive is a partition on a PC running Windows 7. The only folders on the partition are three folders, the targets for the 3 PCs I intend to backup. A few minutes after starting the backup, I get the eror: "The backup has failed. Please close the application that may currently use the file: \\SERVER\Share\... (WS2)_full_b1_s1_v1.tib"  There is no other application using the drive, and I am stuck.

Hello Jay,

I suggest you to reboot your network storage device, reboot your PC, create a new share (not just a new subfolder in an existing share), e.g. \\SERVER\NewShare, create a new backup task in Acronis and start it. This will exclude a number of factors why .tib file may be locked and inaccessible.
