Is True Image 2015 what I need?

Thread needs solution

Hello.
I have a Dell R710 Server with 2 small drives on it. They are in BIOS RAID 0 and the OS sees them as one single C: drive. I need to add drives but it blows away all the data in the process. I need to back up everything in an image, including the OS. Then I can expand my RAID, and bring it all back on to the C: drive.

I need to make the backup image 'bootable' (when I put it back the system boots again) without needing to reinstall windows etc. It seems like I can do this with the boot CD I make with Acronis, but It also looks like I can only make a disk clone from an eSATA drive, and not USB. My Dell doesnt have an eSATA port, it only has USB ports. Can I still make a bootable image to a USB drive or am I pretty screwed?

Thank you
Bob

With Acronis True Image, you need to boot the computer on the Acronis Recovery CD/USB (something you produce with the software on any computer). When the computer has booted, the version of Acronis True Image (ATI) running on this medium needs to see your RAID 0 as a single drive.
Once you have verified this, you can produce an image of your RAID 0 volume.
After you have your backup produced, you can boot the computer on the recovery medium again and restore to the same or another RAID 0 set up in the same computer, and the same disk controller. You can even restore to a single blank disk.

To clone, you have to have both disks (the source and the destination) connected to the right connector and disk controller. The cloning operation also requires the computer to be booted on the recovery medium.

Thanks Pat. So it sounds like to do a clone I cant clone to a USB drive then?

When you clone, you create a disk. You couldn't clone your RAID 0 system disk to a USB disk, but you can image it to the USB disk. An Image is a file that contains all the information necessary to be restored on another disk. Clone = image + restore.
