Piet wrote:Im wondering ;will they ever succeed to fix this issue for SSD with UEFI-bios ??
Apparently not (immediately)
I just noticed that a new build of ATI (6027) has become available but haven't had the time to install it yet
But I'm afraid this build doesn't solve the TND with SSD issue. I can't find anything referring to it in the fixed issue list...
Fixed issues
This release includes the following issue fixes, increased stability, and performance improvements:
- Multiple issues while signing in to an Acronis account.
- Occasional issues with performance of the user interface.
- A newly created backup is not in focus.
- The default file sync disappears after the application update.
- The error "Unable to create a database" appears on the application start.
- The error "LoadLibrary failed with error 1114..." appears on Windows 10.
- The backed up devices do not appear on Online Dashboard.

Yes, very sad indeed, the chancelog did not mention anything about Try&Decide, again very dissapointing.
I think we need a lot of patience, before this SSD/UEFI-Bios bug is fixed.............

Hi
Well I'm in the same boat, T&D still doesnt work for me with UEFI. I've tried a new install of Windows 10 and it still fails with the statement its a dynamic disk. Although the ssd is now an HP one.
However Secure zone now works.
One bonus though, with the latest version (possibly) I can now expand the drives/backup list to see all of the name & path etc.
Well Done Acronis, at least you listen to some things.
Now all I want is to see the defaults changed so the default is to verify all backups and force the user to NOT to verify the backup just taken.
Heaven forbid we get users moaning that the backup was corrupted, why werent they told ?

Acronis solved the T&D issue for me about 1 month ago: working close with the support did the thing.
I guess they're pretty close to release a solution working for everyone.

We sure want to install this prog again ,but its no use if we dont know how to fix the T&D-problems, so;
May I ask what solution you used ,for solving the problem with "continue" after reboot in Try-modus ??
Thank you !

I have installed the latest driver I was sent but that didnt work for T&D, can you let us know what Support asked you to do?
I'm still waiting for a reply on reporting the new driver didnt work.
- Log in to post comments

They worked on the drivers until they fixed the problem (the drivers are the current ones).
As said, i think it will be soon solved for everyone.

Well its now 2016, some time since the last post and as far as I know, T&D still has some problems, at least for me.
I cannot use it and now I've complicated things by adding a new PCI-E SSD and cannot de-activate Acronis Startup Recovery Manager.
Oh well, at least its interesting solving problems

Four and a half months and counting ... THAT is when I started this thread (August 23rd of 2015) and T&D is still not working. I am pretty frustrated as I do not understand what could POSSIBLY be the problem with finding a fix. I don't think the first interation of Windows 10 took that long to produce.
So, i am asking ... begging if necessary ... Acronis PLEASE fix the damn thing so your customers can use the product as advertised !! Sure, True image is a great program and seems to work as good, if not better then stated, but T&D ?? nahhh
I have probably purchased and installed around 100+ copies of TI2016 on customers systems, so it is not like I am a one time user. My customers are looking to me for answers and all I can do is shake my head and shrug my shoulders ....
PLEASE Acronis ... lets get T&D fixed !!!!! 4 1/2 months is way to long to wait for a fix IMO.
All of us have jumped through hoops to help you with this problem. It is time YOU stepped up the the plate with bases loaded and start swinging at the ball.

I've just upgraded to 2016 - and T&D doesn't work for me either.
Using a Dell M6800 with GPT (but not dynamic) disks. Drive C is an SSD. Drive D is a normal disk. And drive R (where temp files are stored) is a RAM disk.
Could do with this fixing, as this is a development machine and we run test driver code on these machines.

I haven't reviewed the past dozens of posts- but, is T&D working for anyone using 2016?

Like I said before in a previous post, there won't be a fix to try and decide. The source code from the last version of T&D of Acronis True Image 2014 was ported to 2016 so is all the limitations it had from the start. I am hoping that the Acronis develpment team will start from scratch the new version 2017 of T&D.

Hi Pedro,
There is at least one person on this list, Carlo Demichelis who says it has been fixed for him.
The developers have been asking me for reports for some time, its been slow lately but I'm still hoping they will clear the problem, even if it does mean re-writing from scratch.
Most/Some of their problems appear to be the implementation of UEFI. This inbuilt security is intended to stop viruses, so it may be an uphill task for them.
Or thats what it seems to me.
Heres hoping for some news soon.

Hi All ...... well, it HAS been a while since we have had official news concerning the T&D issue, but I am happy to say that it "appears" that a fix might be in sight. The following is an email that I received from Acronis. I hope that their timing is accurate.
All in all, after having installed Acronis 2016 on probably over 100 systems, I have found the software to be an amazing piece of work. Unfortunately the T&D problems have made us lose some hope in Acronis and their engineers .... I will be the first one to stand up, cheer and thank them for their hard work once things are up and running ....

Dear Robert,
My name is Renata, I am Narendra's colleague. I am here to update you on the Try&Decide issue.
We have had the talk with our developers and they told us that they will update the Try&Decide problem with the next update of the product (which is planned for spring).
That is why I would propose you to put this ticket into archive so that we had a possibility to update you when the next release will be about to come.
Would this variant be comfortable for you?
If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

That's good news but one thing that bother me is why Acronis release ATI 2016 with T&D half completed, it makes it look like those who bought ATI 2016 were use for testing T&D. Well at least I know ATI 2017 will be on my wish list now... And please don't integrate the cloud backup force login, just make it optional please....

I am kind of* annoyed about this. I was using Acronis 2014 - and only upgraded to 2016 to get T&D working again.
To find out that I will have to pay again for something that I have already paid for but wasn't working leaves a very sour taste.

Mark,
I think you might have misunderstood, an Update in Acronis speak is a new build, not a new version. A new version would require payment, a new build does not.

There is a scheduled update for this month for ATIH 2016. Have not seen a list of bug fixes or updates, or the exact release date, but some other forum posts by Gaidar, Acronis General Manager, have suggested it should be coming sometime this month.

It just came out today so testing has been pretty limited so far. There are supposed to be some feature fixes for Try and Decide, improved default Linux bootable drivers and some general stability.
http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/updates/changes.html?p=37994
What’s new?
- Full support for high-DPI screens.
- The "Do not show again" option has been added to the product notifications in the Windows taskbar notification area.
- Improved design and usability of the product notifications in the Windows taskbar notification area.
- Custom text labels in the subject of the email notification messages that simplify monitoring backup statuses.
- Timing of the product notifications has been coordinated.
- An option to limit the upload speed when you back up data to Acronis Cloud.
- Acronis Media Add-on has been included in the product installer.
- An option to force a computer shutdown while a backup is in progress.
Fixed issues
This release includes the following issue fixes, increased stability, and performance improvements:
- Acronis True Image 2016 disables Windows 10 fast startup
- The message about terminating current operations prevents a computer from shutdown
- Under bootable media, Acronis True Image 2016 (build 6027) doesn't see the internal disk on Microsoft Surface 3 and Microsoft Surface 4
- The error "Cannot create a database" appears when starting Acronis True Image 2016
- The default subject of email notification messages is changed to the computer name
- A disk cloning operation fails, and the computer boots directly to Windows
- The default sync was deleted after the product update from Hotfix 3 (build 5634) to Update 1 (build 6027)
- Only the first custom backup scheme is saved correctly
- The current Try&Decide changes are discarded after you select to keep them when the computer restarts
- A P2P sync fails when you join this sync on the second computer
System requirements
Operating systems:
- Windows XP SP3 32-bit *
- Windows Home Server
- Windows 7 SP1 (all editions)
- Windows 8 (all editions)
- Windows 8.1 (all editions)

After installing this new version , tested Try&Decide, and it works fine ( so far, only short tested !), this is the FIRST TIME I could make a reboot in Try-modus !! On Win10 x64/SSD/UEFI-bios .
Im really very glad and my congratulations to the technicians of Acronis , I thought it never happened !!
So far, only one thing ; could not use the Acronis-secure zone for Try&Decide , so you have to choose another partition for T&D .
Im curious about the experiences of my other forum-members............

So I applied the update, created a new usb boot disk and attempted to boot into uefi. This failed with an error and now:
1 the computer takes three times as long to boot. (Edit this has now resolved - the boot is fast again)
2 usb does not work anyway. Back to using the pe boot disk.

Massive problems here.
T&D seemed to work - enabled it and disabled it - and it all seemed fine - rebooted to discard changes. Hurrah!
But then on reboot after that, I kept getting "Windows failed to start properly" giving me either a "restart" option or "advanced tools". Clicking restart made it reboot just fine. This is a pain because I run a laptop that is docked - and I have to open the laptop lid to respond to the question.
So, I tried to uninstall this version of True Image, and it won't let me because T&D is still running apparantly. Go to the T&D tool, and it says "It is off" but also that it has been running for <x> minutes.
I have no option to switch it off and everything is greyed out. So, I'm stuck here. Thankfully, I took a system image a few days ago I am going to restore that, to get me out of my current woes.
Not impressed.
Image of my T&D screen saying "off" and also "running" and showing all the greyed-outness is here:

Mark, I'm not familiar with T&D mself so I won't be of much help. However, there are several applicaiton sesrvices and startup apps that Acronis uses which may be locking the files needed to allow the change to proceed. See if you can disable all Acronis servcies is Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >>> Services. Then run task manager and end anything Acronis or True Image related. Then see if you can uninstall Acronis from control panel. If that works and you're looking to roll back to an earlier version, or just want to have a 'fresh" install that may solve some issues, try the cleanup tool and instrutions here:
https://forum.acronis.com/forum/113656#comment-334624
If none of these work, I would think you may have a valid support case since T&D is tying up your system and preventing the appliation from working. Try reaching out to technical support and see what they can do for you.

Mark,
If you're using the new 6559 build, you should be able to force TnD to discard changes by following the steps below. If you're still using build 6027 and have used ASRM, then it may not have created the firmware entry that is necessary for this to work.
First go to Settings, Update and Security, click the Recovery tab, and then select Restart now under Advanced startup.
https://forum.acronis.com/system/files/forum/2015/08/97308/tnd1.png
After the systems reboots to the Advanced startup menu, select Use a device.
https://forum.acronis.com/system/files/forum/2015/08/97308/tnd2.png
In the next menu select the entry for Acronis TnD Loader.
https://forum.acronis.com/system/files/forum/2015/08/97308/tnd3.png
After a long reboot TnD should be off.

To be honest, I couldn't be bothered with all that, I just nuked the partition and restored a backup.
Also - FWIW, the recovery disk image that I made with 2016 won't boot. I've made 2 so far, and neither will boot - I'm having to use my 2014 boot disk to boot from when I need to.

I am having problems booting as well. I had to create a pe boot using Windows ask and the acronis media packs. Looking for an alternative. Sick of the constant fails by acronis.

Mark / Mike - if you're not getting boot with your media, it's probably either bad media or bios settings. I've booted ATIH 2016 media on numerous Dells, custom builds with Gigabyte motherboards, Surface pros, Asus Transformers, Acer Aspire, A Vulcan tablet, Winbook tablets and a ton of others.
1) What version are you using to build the default Linux boot media?
2) What type of media are you using - CD's, DVD's (+ , - , +-, R, RW), thumb drives,
3) There are bunch of people I've helped who have stated there CD/DVD's work. After trying a different brand though, it then works - we worked with a guy for a week who was using verbatim disks and a verbatim flash drive and had 0 luck. Switched to a new brand, instantly working. Switched his USB for another brand, also instantly working. A lot of cheap-o brands have issues, especially if they have ever been multiparitioned with other tools. Using something like mintoolParition wizard, you can format all paritions (if more exist) and reformat as fat32 - must be FAT32. Not all media is created equal though.
4) Then, it comes down to bios options/settings - secure boot must be off, is USB boot enabled? do you have UEFI and/or Legacy options and are they all enabled? Is your bootable media listed first before all other boot options in the bios? If so, are you booting the media with the right version to match your OS (legacy vs UEFI) ? Does your one time boot / boot override menu show both the UEFI mode and the Legacy mode (if so, did you select the right one to match how your OS is installed)?
Once you have the system configured properly to boot and are using good boot media, it wil work 100% of the time every time - It doesn't matter what type of system you have.

Thanks for replying to the post re boot disk. Whenever I get any version of Acronis, I always create a recoverable boot media to an ISO and keep that too.
The one that I created with 2016 original or the latest version 6559, - when I burn it to CD and select that image in the BIOS boot order of my Dell M6800 - it just boots to Windows. If I do the exact same thing with the one I created from TI 2014 - then it all just works normally.

Mike wrote:I am having problems booting as well. I had to create a pe boot using Windows ask and the acronis media packs. Looking for an alternative. Sick of the constant fails by acronis.
I also got tired of the problems with Acronis. I tried several other backup programs and settled on Macrium Reflect. It's a vastly better program, in my opinion. They offer a trial version and a free version with the loss of some features.

Mark - see if using the Universal Restore Media builder instead of the one in Acronis makes any difference. I can't repeat the problem on any of the 5 I've created test media with directly in Acronis. The Universal Restore media builder can create bootable media with acronis in it too though - just a thought.
Joseph, I should start posting similar things in the Macrium forum for all of the people having problems over there, but I'll refrain from doing so. Glad that Macrium is working for you, but I've tested both and it's not vastly better - just different and has it's own share of problems. Most of the issue people have with Acronis are due to having it installed where Windows has modified it (or something else) over time thorugh Acronis upgrades, Windows upgrades, etc., failure to understand how their bios works, or using bad/modified media. When you moved to Macrium, you started "fresh" with it and glad it resolved your issues. I'd be curious if after a few in place Macrium upgrades (and recoveries) and a Windows upgrade or two if it will still be so superior. From the forums I've read over there, I'd bet things don't go as smoothly down the road either. Here are just a few screens shots of the thread names of some of the recent Macrium posts - interesting... failed media creation, system won't boot after clone, missing data after recovery.... hmmmmm.

Guys,
there's a good news about TnD for UEFI systems. With the customers’ help, we've localized and fixed the irritating issue with starting TnD protection. The fix will be available for customers after signing the binary by Microsoft. It takes some time.
Sorry for inconvenience!

After a long waiting game, it "appears" (at least on MY end) that T&D is now working as expected. Since I started the initial post of this issue way back months ago, I have successfully tested and used T&D under some demanding circumstances and the results with build 6559 are precise. Modification of multiple drives and subsequent discarding of those changes resulted in the system returning to its pre T&D state correctly.
I have observed only one small quirk and it is more of an annoying issue than anything .... anyone want to test this on theire system ???
1. Start the T&D tool from the shortcut, not from within Acronis 2016 (not sure if it makes a difference)
2. Click to Start T&D to turn it on
3. Answer ok to the "nag" screen
4. T&D should now be running
5. Make a change to your system (anything will do)
6. Stop T&D by clicking on the "Click to Stop"
7. Apply changes WITHOUT a Reboot. (Top item)
8. After changes have been applied, X out of T&D
Notice (at least on MY system) an Acronis generated icon simulating a white page with a greeen down arrow is still present in system tray. (Changes have been applied) ... I have not found a way to remove this icon as of yet. Wouldn't you think that it would be removed when T&D was shut down ????
Other than that, it is nice to have T&D back in our workplace

I've had similar problems to Mark Fenton and like him, one of my main reasons for upgrading 2014 to 2016 was to get T&D working again.
After testing T&D and then rebooting to discard the changes, it was clear that test files, added while T&D was running, were still present on my desktop. A red-ball icon in the taskbar said "Try & Decide - dicarding changes" and would not go away. Starting the T&D wizard again, T&D thought it was turned off but there was no option to turn it on and the free space in my T&D storage was obviously decreasing. I was about to take the nuclear option and restore the backup I took just before upgrading to 2016 when I saw Joey's post about booting into the TnD loader. On rebooting, it went straight into System Recovery and then booted normally, After rebooting, the red-ball icon has gone, as have the test files which were added while T&D was running, and T&D does appear to have discarded the changes now.
It looks like there is still some work to do with T&D but is this possibly just a problem with T&D and the Samsung EVO 840 SSD in my PC, in common with serveral posters here? I have another PC with a Kingston SSD and that seems to be working fine with T&D.
- Log in to post comments

Like an idiot I tried this for a second time and got stuck in an endless loop, rebooting via the TnD loader, getting the red-ball icon and "discarding changes". Nothing I tried would stop it. So I exercised the nuclear option this time; recovered the backup I made before upgrading to ATI 2016 and went back to ATI 2014. Close but no cigar. :-(

I have tested TnD, released with the update 2 and the newest (fixed) versions, on UEFI-based PC with just installed Windows 10 on Samsung EVO 850 SSD. In my environment it works fine in both cases: c: -> c: and c: -> d:. Probably the reason of those malfunction is in UEFI specific environment. I hope it has already been fixed in actual TnD build. Let's wait a little bit for the official release to check.
