Setting Archive Password

Thread needs solution

Hi,

We are using ABR 10 Update 5 on a Win 2008R2 64 bit server.

When I try and create a backup task to a removable USB drive on another server, the Password Protection of the archive option is not available.

If I create the backup task and point it to a NAS, network share or a local hard disk the Password Protection option is available.

What am I missing? Why can't I password protect an archive that is being created on a removable USB Hard Disk?

Any help would be much appreciated...

Thanks

Duke

No I can help you
I have a similar problem to solve. I have only one backup password protected. I can make any new backup, password protected, but none that I have already started. Does that means you setup the same backup from scratch and then run it and once this runs OK, delete the original backup ?? My free support already expired in October so I need to get this information from this forum.
Can you help Yana????

Hi,
Generally, if you do not see the password protection option, this means you are trying to add a backup to an already existing and password-protected archive.
Once you did the 1st password-protected backup, the 2nd, 3rd.. backups done with the same backup plan will be protected with the same password. You can check it by trying to recover from any of these backups. In other words, the password is set for the archive, not for each individual backup. There is no way to change or remove it. If you create a new backup plan and select the same archive as a destination, the software will ask you for the password. The backups you will do with the new backup plan will be protected with the same password.

DukeofAwesome,
in your case the archive may not physically exist on the drive, but its meta info is still stored there. This may happen if you are swapping USB drives. If you really need a completely new archive, try to use a completely new archive name.
