Restore backup to other machine - Management Server doesn't differ between the machines

Thread solved

Hello together,

i restored a backup with Acronis Cyber Backup 12.5 from machine A to machine B, because I need to have two identical machines. Machine B has of course an other IP-address then machine a, but the Management Server doesn't recognize machine B to be an independent system. Instead, the management server shows that machine A has changed the IP-Address to the address of machine B.

I already tried reinstalling the backup agent on machine B, which did not solve the problem. How does the management server identifiy the clients?

Thank you very much.

Hello PP!

The agent has an ID in registry which persists even if you reinstall. Uninstall the agent from Machine B and delete the keys below from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\Settings\MachineManager:

  • InstanceID
  • MMSCurrentMachineID
  • ARSMCurrentMachineID

Reinstall and reregister the agent. You might need to re-register Machine A after this.

Hello PP,

Welcome to Acronis forums!

You will need to change MMSCurrentMachineID and InstanceID on machine B as instructed in this KB article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/65008

Please re-add the Agent on machine B after that: https://kb.acronis.com/content/59828.

Machine A should be re-added automatically. Otherwise, please re-add machine A.

Thank you very much! This worked for me. Good to know where the ID is stored.

Best wishes,
