Recovery of Existing Backup

Thread needs solution

I am in the process of recovering from a technicolor disk crash, and fortunately have 1) A backup that ran the day before and 2) A USB drive with the Acronis Boot loaded.

Before I reboot into the program, I would like to know:

1) Is this the only way to recover backed up files

2) Will I be presented with a list of image files on my NAS to select what I want to restore?

I haven't done this in years and need assistance.

TIA

Robert, some questions first for this topic:

What type of disk has crashed that you are wanting to recover here?
Is this your Windows OS disk drive or is it a data disk drive?

What type of backup image are you wanting to recover?
Is this a Disks & Partitions backup or is it a Files & Folders backup?

What type of PC is involved?
Is it a Desktop / Tower PC or is it a Laptop / Notebook one?

How does this PC connect to your NAS?
Do you have a wired or wireless connection?

What type of Acronis Rescue Media do you have on your USB boot drive?
Is this an Acronis Survival Kit drive (i.e. a HDD drive with a 2GB FAT32 boot partition)?
Is it a USB memory stick / flash drive created using the Acronis Rescue Media Builder tool?
Was it created using the 'Simple' method of the builder tool?

All the above are relevant as they will control the direction of any answers to your questions here about recovery.

If you are recovering your Windows OS disk, then you have to boot from the Acronis USB boot rescue media to do so.

KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

For connectivity to your NAS, it is best / easiest if you can use a wired connection to avoid all the extra complications of connecting via a wireless adapter.

If your PC is able to boot into Windows without issue, and you are looking to recover only Files / Folders for a data disk, then there are several options available to you.

You can do a Disks & Partitions recovery from the Windows ATI application to a new disk drive, or you can use the same steps as for a Windows recovery booting from the rescue media.

Alternatively, you can do a Files & Folders recover using either approach.

See KB 63240: Acronis True Image 2020: how to restore files from a backup (Windows) - and scroll down the document to the section showing how to open .tibx or .tib files in Explorer by double-clicking on the files.

Thank you for responding.

I am attempting to Restore Files and Folders backup to a recently set up Windows OS disk

The PC, and the NAS with the backup folders are all on a wired Ethernet.

I built the rescue media using the simple creation tool.

I successfully booted into the Recovery Manager, but could not locate the NAS drive on the network tree.  No NAS drives (I have 6) were found.  I could, however, see a USB-connected DROBO RAID device, so I think I am going to restart Windows and copy the Acronis TIB files to it and to another USB-connected HD and run from there.

I am also going to try double-clicking on the backup TIB file in Windows Explorer.

I have used the recovery bootable disk before to clone a drive from an NAS backup, so I know the process works.
