Acronis True Image V 9 Crashing?

Thread needs solution

I have been using version 9 for a couple of years now without any problem, and recently reinstalled it onto a new PC, which we have had built. XP Pro Service pack 3. The program installs fine, but when I go to backup partitions it displays all the drives and partitions to backup, and you can select for backup, however, when the backup destination is called for: in this case a USB 500G external, when you click upon My Computer to break out the hard drive tree to select in this case drive G: the program crashes, and the usual Microsoft apology screen presents. I have tried completely removing and rebooting the software, but same problem every time; as soon as you try to break out the computer destination for storage tree, the program crashes and returns you to Desktop. It doesn't matter if you are backing up complete discs parttitions, or individual folders: every time I try to break out the hard drive tree by clicking My Computer, the program crashes?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hello Brian,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the forum. I will definitely help you with resolving this issue.

Unfortunately it is difficult to say immediately why a program crashes. We will need to look at Dr.Watson crash dumps and AcronisInfo report.

Do you think you can send these files to me and I will be able to tell you what is causing the crash. I will follow-up with a private message in a few minutes with an ftp link so that you could upload the files to it, crash dumps are too large for a forum attachment.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

You should note that 9 is very old version and might not work on some of the newer hardware setups. So don't be too disappointed if it turns out that 9 can be made to work onthe newer machine. It's cool that Anton is going to try to help-- I don't thin Acronis officially supports ver 9 any more.

good luck,
sh

Hello Scott!

Thank you for your kind comment!

Actually, you're right, Acronis True Image Home 9.0 is no longer developed, updated and supported by the Tech Department, and may not work on the modern hardware. But we can at least make sure that it's really a compatibility issue, not the product glitch.

As long as we don't need to escalate the case to the Development team there should be no issues with investigation.

Unfortunately, in case the issue's really caused by the compatibility issues, the only solution will be to upgrade to Acronis True Image Home 2011. We'd advise you to test the solution before making a decision as well as check the User's Guide: we've changed the GUI, and added some functionality.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
