Online Backup Barf? Event code: 0x00980192

Even when the online backup finally works properly, there is a significant shortcoming with the current implementation, which is the fact that online backup is executed from within TI2010 like a local backup - that is if you start an online backup then any other backup tasks scheduled or initated manually, has to wait until the online backup finishes. Given the upload speed available in the UK (re: very slow) backups online are going to take hours to days to complete.
As a solution I tried to install the standalone online tool, but this was prevented at installation due to TI2010 already installed.
Question is why TI cannot execute an online backup in parrallel to a local one?
While we're talking about limiting features of online backup - support for Windows Home Server - apparently Windows Home Server is a Server OS (which it is), and therfore Acronis won't allow the online backup tool to install, but WHS is home tool, which I store all my files on, which also remains powered on all the time and so would be ideal to run those long back up tasks to the Acronis servers

Well, in the last forty-eight hours, Acronis Online Backup has backed up 0 bytes for me. No, folks, that isn't a misprint! It's a big fat ZERO!!!!!!!!!!
Of course, Acronis Online Backup keeps telling me it's "Backing Up...", but I think that means it's going backwards instead of forwards. :)
I don't know if Acronis is a publicly traded stock. If it is, I'd think it would be one to short big-time.

Groucho, can you please describe when you exactly got the login error? During login to the account or during try to access encrypted computer in the ATI OB? I assume it was during login to the program. If so, can you please let me know the exact timeframe when it was not working? I'll check with the web team, probably that was a problem on the web.
Yes, as I recall it was during login, and the times were:
February 11 @11:52am and 8:33pm (Eastern-New York time)
February 12 @ 4:48am
February 13 @ 4:48am

I purchased Acronis True Image Home 2010 from Amazon.com back on September 27, 2009. I'm getting very close to giving my review of the "product" on Amazon.com, and it ain't gonna be pretty if I do a review.

That would be a great improvement if they can implement it in a new build, but I tend to think we won't see that until Online Backup 2011

Hey Lone Star Steven, have you downloaded the latest build for TI 2010? It's working perfectly for me. The Online Backup, not so much...though it is improving...I think.

No, I have not "upgraded" from build 5,026, since for every problem "fixed", it seems four more problems crop up. The only program on my computer right now that I have regrets over having ever installed is Aconis True Image Home 2010. I don't even want to remove the program for fear of it crapping out my hard drive and having to start from scratch.

For several days now not been able to add anything to the backup. Currently it keeps trying to backup recycle bin even though it is empty and not part of what I requested to back up. It will show ever lower speed and gets error about Cannot open the encrypted stream .... Invalid internal API usage ....

Add another twenty-four hours of NOTHING to the above quote, so now I'm up to three solid days of diddly-squat.

Robert and Steven, this sounds a lot like where I was several days ago...though the recycle bin thing sounds really strange. Today was my best day for backup...few dropped sessions and I was able to back up a couple gigs (up to 6 now total). I don't know what to make of your situations. Almost sounds like connecting and uploading is just based on the luck of the draw and maybe how busy the servers are at a particular time??

Things are improving here at least. Just under 18GB total. I've been spoon feeding about 200Mb/night. Seems to be working.

Since one exists the bug with the timeout. Please fix the bug.

Here are two definite bugs (or design shortcomings) that keep cropping up:
It happened to me for the second time last night that the main window, "Online storage: 250 GB", listed 0 bytes of data on the tab under my computer icon. Shutting down and rebooting immediately showed that I actually had 6.5 GB. I think a couple of others here have posted about losing all their data, but I think this may be what really happened to them.
And after a timeout I can never stop the program properly by either right clicking on the "Tasks management" page: Custom tasks/Online Backup/Stop, or from the Acronis True Image Monitor in the tray. If I do this it shows the process to still be running, though it always remains at 0%, and periodic checks show nothing is being added to the total.
Only if I shut down the running True Image processes in Windows Task Manager and reopen the program can I then reconnect to the server and begin uploading once again.

Hello Guys,
Sorry for not coming back to you yesterday, let me share some news with you.
We have uploaded several perfomance fixes to the backend of the OB solution and another one is coming tomorrow. This is regards "Request time out" error and several other errors which are cause by high load on the servers and low perfomance of the servers.
Other news is that on the next week we are going to release a stand alone version of Acronis True Image Home 2010 Online Backup, which will address hanging issue.
Other points I want to share is that there is are some usability issues which we will address later:
1. After you suspend operation, process of backup is closing anisochronously, since some data are required to be saved on the server prior finishing. So, the process will stay in the process list from several seconds to 2-3 minutes, it depends on the network.
2. Once you resume backup after suspend, the progress window will stay without progress for a while, it is not a hang, there is overhead information being transfered at this time, we will add progress and text for such cases in the next update.

Groucho,
I reported the lost data last week - but found the same thing you did, shutting down and rebooting "discovered" it.
Am having similar issues with shutdown. Have to use Task Manager to get it to quit.
Have managed to backup some files - but in very small increments - like one 1 page document at a time. If I attempt to do more than that in one session - I get the "time out" error message.

LA, I don't know if you caught the workaround posted by Roman earlier. Check it out, it's post #57 in this thread (page 2). Basically it extends the period before you time out. It helps a little, but it's better than nothing. Of course if too many adopt it, there goes the advantage! Hmmm...wonder what would happen if I changed the 300 in the command line to 500...or 1000? :-D

Currently I still noticed no difference from the last 4 weeks. I hope that what really changes. I do not advise more.

Thanks very much for this info, Roman. It's very enlightening. It had occurred to me that something like this might be the case with suspending the operation, but I couldn't be sure. It does make very good sense. I think some documentation about this would help. If I missed that, sorry. Thanks again!

Currently I still can not perform backups with Acronis True Image. I'm curious whether there is still little will change today.

After a couple of good days earlier this week, my total for yesterday and today is exactly 0. Yes, let's hope for an improvement today.

Online backup speed was about 10X faster for a while this afternoon! Backed up an additional 3GB in record time (~12 Mb/sec via Comcast Cable). The program then stopped, with the Log showing "Operation has been Stopped".
However, now whenever I try to run an online backup, the backup process starts and then about 10 seconds later I get a Windows error message that Acronis has crashed ("Acronis True Image Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"). If I look at more info, I get the following Windows error signature:
szAppName : TrueImageHomeService.exe szAppVer : 13.0.0.6053
szModName : msvcr80.dll szModVer : 8.0.50727.4053 offset : 000046b4
Windows then asks if I want to send them the data - I hit "Don't Send" and I get an Acronis message bubble that says, "The Operation was Successfully Completed". I can provide dumps if it would be useful.
Has Acronis made a server-side change that would cause this new symptom?

That sounds like a new wrinkle, Bert. Maybe it's just a sign that someone is working on things, and it will soon pass. I'm sure Roman will respond tomorrow with an explanation.
Good news here. For the first time in two days I am able to upload, and the speed is consistently good. Maybe this is the beginning of those promised improvements? If so, I thank the people who have been working on a solution.

Tried to repair TI2010 installation - no joy - program still crashing. Tried Windows system restore - no difference. Finally, completely removed and reinstalled the program and the crashing problem went away (along with all schedule info). Looks like its working again - online backup in progress...

Congratulations, sounds like that did the trick for you...hope it continues to go well. Online backup is - knock on wood - proceeding well here, at long last.

Kudos!
Must give credit where it is due. Check out the screenshot. I've never seen this before. I currently have 22.5GB uploaded and today it uploaded TODAY'S QuickBooks file. I now have 10 versions of that file uploaded going back to 2/4.
I'll reiterate, I LOVE the logic behind this program. This is the first chance I've had to test the recover/restore process and it's very intuitive and slick. Ultimately, once the bugs are worked out, this will be a very, very good backup program.

This is true for me also...better, but not completely fixed yet.
Also, I'd like to understand why I keep getting the error message:
"Failed to enumerate the directory. Probably it does not exist."
Anybody else getting that one?
Here's a screenshot. Nothing in the knowledge base about it.

That isn't an error I have seen as of yet. Can you tell from the operation status window what it is trying to backup at the time the error occurs? If so what if you removed the parent folder of the folder getting the error from the list folders you want to backup. Not a long term solution but could help in the meantime.

I got the identical message from a different support person and have not heard from anyone the last 8 days. Don't have a successful online backup since I bought it almost a month ago. Onsite backup works fine.

I just found this thread after struggling with continual Online Backup failures since 01/27/2010. I filed a report with Acronis support and received a case number on 02/16, but I haven't heard a peep out of anyone at Acronis.
I just "repaired" both TI Home 2010 release 6053 as well as the Plus Pack, but it's made no difference. Online Backup stalls and reports that it's still running with 0 bytes transmitted even after I repeatedly suspend the job. I have to reboot to close everything down.
So much for 250GB storage when we can't upload anything!
Here's the link to my other thread in case anyone's interested in reading:

I think it is time that the Attorney General in Texas, as well as other states, file suit against Acronis for continually releasing defective products and stealing money from customers.

Ha, maybe not. My latest attempt registers 147 timeout warnings. Check out the attachment below. Very weird behavior today, and very discouraging. I'm also showing 0 bytes backed up now every time I log in. However I'm not too worried, as I can see everything I've uploaded when I browse with Time Explorer.

Especially with this OLB issue.

Had a couple of days with decent progress now back to not being able to back up anything more since yesterday evening.

I tried a manual OLB last night, and it got a little farther, but then failed with errors. At least it didn't stall and require a reboot, I guess.
I've attached three screen shots. The third is the error log.

Exactly the same here, although just within the last hour or so this morning (approximately 10 am Sunday, New York time) I've been able to start uploading a small, 500 MB file...up to 9% completed so far. The only thing I did differently was to disable the True Image Monitor in Task Manager, thought I doubt that has anything to do with anything.

Have still received nothing from a tier 2 support person, so decided to begin again. I registered my software (no easy task typing a 64 character serial code from my cd jacket), downloaded the latest posted version (still showing build 6053 from November) and started an online backup. Cross your fingers, guys. I am currently at 13% and there is not a log showing at all yet.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for a response from Acronis. Haven't heard a peep.
After last night's failed OLB (got ~80MB/1GB backed up), I decided to pare the job down to the bare minimum: my 30MB Quicken data file. It took a while, but the job indeed finished! Now if Acronis would just get this fixed so I could back up *all* my important data!

Hey Alvin, don't knock it, 23% is pretty good, compared to some of us. I'm guessing that must be, what, a 1-2 MB file you're trying to upload? ;-)
