The the determined 'GRUB 2'-loader mode is not supported.

Thread needs solution

Hi,

we use Acronis vmProtect8 to backup an openSUSE 13.1 x86_64 virtual server. The server is backed up properly, but we get the following error message (in German):

GRUB-Loader konnte nicht ermittelt werden. (GRUB-Loader could not be determined)

Does anybody have a clue, what the error message means? Could there be problems restoring the backup? How can we avoid this error message?

Thanks in advance to all who respond.
Markus

Hi Markus,

This message indicates that Acronis backup engine was unable to parse the boot loader inside the backed up system. It may appear on specific Linux VMs setups and we have fixed several similar problems in newer builds of Acronis Backup for VMware (former vmProtect). Usually this warning can be ignored and the VM should still be bootable after recovery, however there were cases where bootability of the system was broken after recovery. Therefore it makes sense to do the following:

1) Upgrade to 9th version of Acronis vmProtect (now called Acronis Backup for VMware) or at least try the trial version if upgrade is impossible
2) Try restoring this VM as a new one and check whether it boots. If not - then capture system report from the Linux VM as described in https://kb.acronis.com/content/1508 (I've attached the systeminfo script to this post) and contact our support team for assistance.

Thank you.
