How to fix the error in the event log (It is detected that the virtual appliance crashed earlier)

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis vmProtect 8.0 (build 8.0.8184) virtual machine. It works fine without issues but every time I restart it I see the error in the event log:
It is detected that the virtual appliance crashed earlier. Please contact Acronis support.

Several months ago I tried to power the appliance down when I had storage failure (connected to vmProtect appliance as internal drive). Since this I have this error in the event log of the vmProtect appliance. How to fix/remove this error?

Thanks

Hi!

The proper way to shutdown the appliance is to go to its console and click on Turn Off button. However there was also a known issue in 8th version that this button not always worked properly (sometimes force shutdown was required) and we've addressed this problem in the 9th version of Acronis vmProtect (now it's called Acronis Backup for VMware). I've now checked the last 10007 build and it doesn't record such events into the log even if I forcibly shutdown the appliance from the vSphere. The event is supposed to be recorded only if real crash occured and /tmp/core file was generated.

In your case there can be a temporary solution to deploy a fresh appliance, but likely it will help for some period only. The proper way is to upgrade to the 9th version where we addressed this and other related issues.

Thank you.

I don't need version 9, my version 8 as I said works fine for me. It crashed when I had storage failure. How to delete /tmp/core file to fix my issue?
Thank you

Hi,

You can check the troubleshooting section in the following KB article:

https://kb.acronis.com/content/36100

It describes how to connect to appliance via WinSCP, which gives you access to file management, where you can remove the /tmp/core file. Alternatively you can simply switch to command prompt in appliance GUI (opened in vSphere console) via Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Space+F1, then Alt+F2 and issue "rm -rf /tmp/core" command.

Thank you.
