Disk Director "update" failing with e00640003

Thread needs solution

I'm hoping someone can help with upgrading Disk Director Suite. I'm trying to install the latest version and the Acronis FAQ says it will "install over the existing version." That is not true. I'm getting an error telling me to uninstall the current version. I'm concerned about uninstalling a product that is vital to booting my machine.

Any advice? Thanks!

What build is currently installed?

Is there a specific reason you're wanting/needing to install the new build?

What OS and service pack level are you using?

---

There are currently some problems with the latest build of DD.

Windows XP SP 3, Version 10 build 2160. I'm upgrading because I'm finding little quirks with the program I'm hoping get fixed. :-)

Thanks!!!!

Hello all,

Thank you for using Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0

James,

Sometimes the program fails to remove all traces of the previous build or of the previous version. In this case you should remove the previous installation. I may recommend you to use Acronis Clean up utility to uninstall the old build. After that reboot the computer and install build # 2239 from the scratch.

Release notes for this build are available here.

Thank you.

Hello,

I'm having the same Error E00640003 while trying to reinstall Disk Director. I recently upgraded to TI2010 which screwed up my Disk Director. I found on another post that were issues with old build of Disk Director and old builds of TI2010. I uninstalled all Acronis products and downloaded the most recent updates of TI2010 and DD. I get the error code when trying to reinstall Disk Director.

I followed the instructions provided by the link labeled "Acronis Clean up utility" posted above and still failed to install Disk Director.

What would my next step be?

Thanks

Hello Hertz2bu,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

To find the exact reason we need .msi log file of the failed operation.

1. Launch the product installation file;
2. Once the Acronis product installation screen appears, right-click on the name of the component that fails to install. You should see two options there: Install and Extract. Select Extract;
3. Select the path for extracting the component and click Save. You should select C partition, and leave the auto-created file name.
4. Go to the Run prompt (Start -> Run) and issue the following command:
msiexec /i C:\AcronisDiskDirector.msi /l*v C:\msilog.log
5. Reproduce the problem and attach the log file created during the installation to your next post.
This information will help me to investigate the issue thoroughly and provide you with a possible solution.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.

Hello Oleg,

After spending a lot of time researching the forums I found two things that I used to solved my issue:

1. That when I purchased & downloaded the True Image Home 2010 upgrade from cleverbridge, they did not give me the latest build. From what I read, the build that I downloaded had issues with DiskDirector. I installed the latest version of True Image Home 2010 from the Acronis website, but still had trouble with Disk Director.
2. I ended up downloading a older version of DiskDirector (build 2160). With that build I was able to install and uninstall without issue. Then I was able to installed the latest build (2239) of Disk Director.

Thank-you,
Hertz
