ASD - no onboard NIC detected

Thread needs solution

I updated all of the boot images (PXE, CD, etc) successfully, that's not a problem at all. I still just can't use the resultant images.

I have some good news. The PXELinux Loader solution is working for me.

I went through the steps outlined in KB2215 as provided by Yana in the previous post.
I used the kernel.dat and ramdisk.dat files downloaded previously. I did not re-download them to try and rule out corrupted files. Both Master Image Creator and Snap Deploy Agent now boot correctly via PXE. The Optiplex 380 NIC is being detected on both.

It seems that when loading the files via Snap Deploy Management Console, the PXE does not know how to handle the new Agent .dat files which results in the kernel panic. But there is no issue with the files themselves as the PXELinux Loader works. I'm not familiar with how these files are prepared so I can't really give any suggestions.

Hopefully we can figure out the problem. I'll check back here when I can to see if I can be of any more help.

OK I have tried a couple different things and am still having trouble.
I created a CD from ISO which allows me to get into Snap Deploy, but
when I tell the server to deploy I get an error on Server Source "9504859555838" unavailable!

So I tried the suggestion about using PXE_linux. I can get SnapDeploy to come up on the client,
but when I try to start the deploy from the server, I get the same error message, Source "9504859555838" unavailable!
The client reboots almost immediately after I start the deployment.

This is with an Optiplex 380, but we have tried to deploy to other clients and can't deploy to them either.!!!

Please Help,

Thanks,

Warren

Yana and everyone else....just letting you know after performing the steps Yana sent to me in a private message as well as http://kb.acronis.com/content/2215, all my Dell 380's are PXE imaging perfectly. All kernel panic and NIC detection problems are gone. We imaged over 100 Dell 380’s over the weekend.

Yana do you have an estimation as to when the next build of Snap Deploy will include these fixes?

Hi Yana, I'm experiencing the same problem as these other users with my Optiplex 380s, no NIC detected when booting to PXE build 3329. Could you please send me the instructions for the temporary fix, and also any info I will need to avoid the kernel panic issues when I build and then deploy an image?

Thanks

Hello Yana,

I'm using a French version of Acronis snap deploy 3.0. Do I need french files of ramdisk and kernel (like french key for french installer) ?

Regards,
Fabrice.

Hello all!

Thank you for your comments!

Mike, thank you for updating me regarding the case's state. Could you please kindly follow the instructions I sent you via PM and tell me the results?

In this case we can either

  • recreate the image and try deploying it (in case the issue is with the image)
  • use Acronis Snap Deploy Standalone Bootable Media

Meanwhile I would like to ask you to provide support with the following information:

  1. Procmon output (start process monitor tool, reproduce the issue, save the output)
  2. Acronis Info from the machine with the Deployment Server
  3. Exact sequence of steps performed
  4. Screenshot of the issue

Harmeet, BV, thank you for your comment and for letting us know that the issue got resolved, I 'm really happy to hear it.
Harmeet, you are correct: PXE server somehow cannot load the ramdisk.dat of the Agent. Currently this situation is under investigation. I really appreciate your cooperation, it is very important for us. Thank you!
BV, thank you for your question. I contacted our Experts team, and we are promised that this fix will be included into the next build since we incorporate all solutions into the new build.

Warren, I'm very sorry for the issue you have faced. It's difficult to say what went wrong, so this problem requires investigation. But before we proceed, please make sure that you have enough available licenses in the License Server.

Should you have sufficient number of product keys, and the issue persist, please gather the following information:

  1. Acronis Info
  2. Acronis Snap Deploy Agent logs
  3. OS Deploy Server logs

After that please contact support directly and let me know the case number.

Pat, thank you for your request! I have just sent you PM with links and instructions, let me know in case you didn't get it or something looks confusing!

Fabrice, sure you need the French version. I'm sorry for I didn't notice that you version is French from the start, please, use the files I've sent you via PM.

Thank you all for being patient and for working with me on this issue, I really appreciate it. Be sure that I will continue assisting you till everything is working correctly for your complete satisfaction.

Thank you!

Hello Yana,

I've used the new files you send me.
Now, I am able to deploy image using the boot CD (the standalone utility option).

Booting from NIC still not work, same message : "Unable to load initial ramdisk" followed by a "kernel panic" message.

I would like to be able to deploy image without a boot cd. I will try the PXE_linux solution and let you know if it works for me.

Regards,
Fabrice.

Using PXELinux:

MIC boots and creates yet another unrecognizable image. Agent appears to function, but that wasn't my problem. Installed memory from another brand new machine: same result.

I give up. After as much trial and error as I have time for, I've reverted my installation and I will just slave drives in and out of an older machine. Or something. I'm too tired to deal with this right now.

This product has turned out to be a huge disappointment.

Hello Fabrice and Mike!

Fabrice, thank you for keeping me posted. I'll be waiting for news from you!

Mike, thank you for your comment. I completely understand your concern and your decision, and regret that we couldn't help you with this current case.

Anyway should we meet such behavior again, we'll request the diagnostic information again, analyse it, and as soon as we have a solution - I will post it here.

Thank you once again for cooperation. Keep in mind that you can share all your questions and concerns with us - we will definitely do our best to help you.

Thank you.

Hello! I have to deploy on Optiplex 380 and have the same problem.
Could you please send me the solution?

Thanks.

P.S. : My name is "Naboki", I don't know why my nickname is "acronis customer" on the forum.

The Standalone solution is the only solution that has worked for me at this time. I spent some time on the phone yesterday with Alex and he got a bunch of information. So hopefully we will have a solution soon. Whenever we try to use PXE or a boot cd (other than standalone), the pc we are trying to deploy to, just reboots immediately. One other thing I have noticed is that the pc's that we try to deploy to that have broadcom nics seem to be the ones with the problem. I have been able to deploy to an Optiplex 960 which has an intel nic.

We have pc's stacking up here that need to be deployed, but I don't think having to use a cd for each one will work well at all.

Thanks,

wrk

Hello Naboki and Warren!

Naboki, thank you for joining our community! Sure I will send you all necessary links. Please check your PM and let me know in case you didn't receive it.

I have also change you the name, probably there was a glitch on Forum when your were finishing registration. I'm sorry for that.

Please let me know in case the issue persists, I will find another solution.

Warren, thank you for your comment! I really appreciate that you keep us posted, it is important for us! Alex is one of our best experts, so I'm quite positive that the issue will get resolved in the shortest timeframes.

Thank you for the information provided, we'll be waiting for news from you.

Ok, It's work but I had the famous "kernel panic" problem. I try with the "PXELinux Loader" (http://kb.acronis.com/content/2215) It's now working but it's not very "user friendly"...

Hello.

The onboard NIC on our "Esprimo Q9000" is not recognized (Intel 82577LM Gigabit).

We use "Acronis True Image Home 2009" Bootable Media.

Recognize "Acronis True Image Home 2009" Build: #9809 the Intel 82577LM?

Hello Stephan!

Welcome to Acronis Forum, we're glad to greet you here!

Could you please go to your account here, download the latest Bootable Media in ISO format, burn it onto the CD and boot your machine from it.

It should resolve the issue you faced.

I would appreciate if you could kindly keep us posted regarding this question, so that we could provide you with further asstance if required.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Hi there,

I am unable to find the network card for some new laptops we have purchased - newly released HP Elitebook 8540w model. The Network Card according to device manager is a 'Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection'.

I have read above that I need to download updated "Bootable Media", which I have done, but I don't have the instructions on what to do with that ISO file. Please send them to me so I may try that method before going further.

I am on the 15 day free trial of the program. I do not seem to have the ability to download the bootable media with the free trial. I also need the instructions on how to edit the ISO file.

Thank you for your assistance.

P.S. I have the same product as the quoted post.

Hello Michael!

Welcome to our Forum and thank you for reporting about your experience. I will surely send you all required files for successful resolution of the issue. Please check your PM.

Unfortunately there is no way to modify the ISO file, instead of it we do update the PXE server. Just follow the instructions mentioned in the PM and see whether the issue persists.

Please keep us posted regarding this issue so that I could provide you with further assistance if needed.

Thank you!

Hi one of the Acronis Moderator's

Yana helped me with the NIC issue with replacing the dat's in the specific folders. When I do that the notebook that had the problem works, but when I go back to another pc, the image creation takes very long, and once done, it says Not a valid image archive.

Any ideas?

Dear Barrie!

Thank you for your comment! I'm really sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Unfortunately it is difficult to identify the exact cause, so we will need additional information. Please kindly gather it as requested in this comment.

P.S. Could you please also check whether you have PM receiving enabled? I've sent you a reply to your PM not long ago, but it looks like you never received it.

Thank you!

Hello

Can I please have the instructions for updating the PXE loader and where I get this from. We are also having the same issues with the HP 8440s.
Sorry if this is a repeat, i started 3 days ago.

Hello...
I am trying to use snap deploy on a new Lenovo T510 thinkpad and I believe that the NIC is not recognized. I am on build 3329. I am very new to this and could use any help. Thanks.
FYI, the on board NIC is an Intel 82577 LM Gigabit adaptor.
OK...so I have been reading this forum, and do not quite understand what I am seeing...is there a solution to use a bootable CD that recognized this NIC? I see posts about downloading bootable media, which I did (I thought) and when I clicked the resulting exe, I ended up with a snap deploy console (it seemed). I am new to acronis, so forgive the newbie mentality :P

Michael W. (David Geller)

Hello Propagnda Helpdesk and David Geller,

Thank you for your comments. I will definitely help you with this.

I will send a private message to each with instructions for updating the Acronis Snap Deploy 3 PXE Server.

David,

In Acronis Snap Deploy 3 there are three ways to deploy a machine and 2 ways to create a master image. The master image can be created by using the Acronis Snap Deploy Management Agent installed on the computer, or, using a bootable CD offline. You can take a look at page 16 for more details in our User Guide.

The machine can be deployed either, by booting it to the PXE server and performing a deployment from a management console installed on another machine. It can also be deployed by booting the remote machine with the Snap Deploy Agent and deploying from the management console, or, you can boot the machine with the bootable CD called the Standalone Version, and performing an offline deployment. Please check page 17 of the User Guide for additional information.

If your network card is not recognized during one of these steps, it is very likely, that the software does not have the necessary drivers for your hardware. We resolve such issues by either updating the PXE Server components or using the latest versions of the bootable CDs.

I will provide you with both via a private message.

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Thanks for the info. I created a new boot CD and was able to see the NIC. So far, it looks promising, but I don't want to jinx myself yet. :)

Can you provide me with the information you provided David Geller. It sounds like I need to create a new boot cd.

Hello Roth,

Thank you for your post. I will definitely help you.

Please check your private messages, I have sent you the necessary instructions.

Let me know if you have any other questions please.

Thank you.

We are having the same type of issue. Our HP DX7500 will not boot into the PXE server totally. They get hung up before they join the Management console after we choose the Snap Deploy agent. I am working with a Support Rep that isn't helping much. They gave me the ISO for booting the machine into a newer snap deploy agent, that joins the PXE server, but as soon as I start a deployment (click finish on the template) the workstation reboots.

Thanks,

Chris

Hello Chris!

Welcome to our Forum and thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I'm really sorry for the inconvenience you've faced. I will send you the PXE update instructions in a minute and meanwhile let's try to solve the issue according to the information that we've got.

The Agent finally managed to boot into the PXE, but restarts on deployment. Most common reason for it is the lack of licenses in the License Server.  It is also possible that the Agent cannot find the License Server in the network or the image that should be deployed.

So in order to localise the issue we will need the following information:

  1. Screenshot of the License Server
  2. Wireshark
  3. Acronis Snap Deploy Agent logs
  4. Acronis OS Deploy Server logs
  5. Backup location

Please send this information either to Anton or to me via PM.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

I am also having an issue with 10 new HP 8540w's.

PXE boot goes through to the Snap Deploy Agent load screen and stalls (or is perpetually waiting) with the comment "Processing, please wait..."

Can you send me the files and instructions to update the PXE server with the driver for this NIC?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Jason,

Thank you for your post. I will definitely help you with this.

I will send you a PM right now with instructions for updating the PXE server and I would really appreciate if you can get back to me in case you have additional questions or any other issues.

Thank you.

We are experiencing similar problems with HP EliteBook 8440p. The NIC doesn't get recognized. How to update the PXE server?

Hello Markus,

Thank you for your post. I will be happy to assist you.

I will send you a private message with the required instructions in a few minutes.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist you.

Thank you.

The NIC is also not detected on the Dell Latitude E6410 and Latitude E6510. Please send m the updated PXE components.

Dear Justin!

Welcome to our Forum!

I've just sent you the instructions, please, check your PM. Let me know in case you have any questions - I'll be glad to explain.

Thank you!

We are currently testing the trial version of the Acronis Snap Deploy 3, but I'm having the same problem about not detecting the NIC of the Dell Latitude E6510. The NIC is Intel 82577LM Gigabit card. Please advise.

I also have it working with the PXELinux Loader and was wondering if anyone with more experience with syslinux cfg files had written a menu to boot the different modules as opposed to having to remember which number corresponds to each module.

Hello Joe and Justin!

Joe, thank you for notifying that you have this issue as well. I will send you the fix in a minute.

Justin, unfortunately this question is more related to our Experts team. I will send them the request for clarification, and update you as soon as I have any news.

Hi,

I downloaded and replaced the files as advised in the PM sent by Anton. Now the problem is that the media builder crashes in the "Network Settings" window as I click "Next". It doesn't make a difference if the builder is launched from the Acronis console or from start menu.

BTW there's no CD writer in the server (if that counts).

Hi,

We have just received a shipment of new Dell E6410 laptop and we are getting same error with it not detecting the NIC and just sits at the "Processing Please Wait" screen. Could you please send me the instructions on how to update the PXE server?

Welcome to our Forum, Trent!

I've just sent you the instructions, please, check you PM, they should be there.

Thank you!

Support,

Can you please provide instructions for me to update my PXE server with the latest ISO. I cannot see a NIC in our ThinkPad T510 laptops in either image builder or the deploy tool.

Thank you!

Hello Jerry,

Welcome to our forum and I want to thank you for posting.

I will definitely assist you with this. In a few minutes I will send you a private message with all the instructions together with the download links.

If you need any other help, please let me know.

Thank you.

I have a similar problem. I am trying to use PXE on a Dell Latitude E6410 and it is not finding a NIC. The NIC installed is an Intel 825xx Gigabit LAN Card. I have had success prior to this model of Dell.

Hello tim,

Thank you for your post. I will definitely help you.

I will send you a private message with instructions for updating the Acronis Snap Deploy 3 bootable components.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.

so here is the Issue I am having with this.
I was first unable to detect the NIC on my Ibm t410, I contacted the help desk and they sent me a link to the files with the updated Kernel.dat, ramdisk.dat and the bootwiz.sys
I downloaded and placed them in the appropriate files, re created my boot media as well as my pxe services.
here are the new issues i am facing

1) when I boot using pxe, I can now see the nic, but when I select image creation it from the options it goes to the image deploying module instead of the image creation
2) before the update, I created a the bootable image on to a usb stick, now it gets created and when I try to boot off of it, I get an error saying non system disk error

Hello Josel,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our forum. I will do my best to assist you.

The first issue that you mention can either be caused by our software issue or that the bootable components did not update properly. For the second issue, please try re-creating the bootable image on to a usb stick with the updated components and try booting one more time. If there is no operating system on the machine you are booting the symptoms indicate that the usb stick is not booting.

I would recommend to continue working with our Support team on this because at the moment it is not clear why these issues occur.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Thank you.

I have a similar problem. I am trying to use PXE and Acronis Snap Agentis not finding a NIC. The NIC installed is an atheros AR 8131.
Please send me solution how to fix it.

Hello Andrew,

Welcome to our forum and thank you for posting. I will definitely help you with this issue.

I will send you instructions in a few minutes via a private message.

Just in case, if the update fails to resolve the problem, please submit a support request with the this log file so that our Support team can provide you with a solution.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.

I am having the same issues as others with the Dell Optiplex 380. We have build 3329 on our PXE server. I have downloaded the ISO but would also like to update my PXE server since that is the primary method of deployment at our site. Also, every so often, when we do a scheduled deployment, some of the PCs would immediatly reboot after the start of the event and it would remove them from the list of PCs on the server.
