ASD - no onboard NIC detected

Thread needs solution

Dear Kim!

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us! I understand your concern and will be glad to help you.

As you know, the NIC detection failure is usually resolved by updating PXE bootable components. I have just sent you the PM with the instructions, could you please follow them and see whether the issue persists?

Regarding the reboot issue:

usually we face this behavior in case there are insufficient free licenses in the License Server. Could you please check the License Server for unused licenses? Please keep in mind that should you have the upgrade licenses in the LS you will need to add the previous licenses as well: upgrade keys doesn't work without previous version licenses.

Should you have enough licenses in the LS and the issue persists, please gather the following information:

  1. Os Deploy Server logs
  2. Deployment Agent logs
  3. Screenshot of the license server
  4. Wireshark

After that please kindly contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

I am experiencing the same problem with the Acronis version 10 boot cd build 8398 not finding nic. I have a dell E6510 laptop with Intel(R) 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection. Can you share instructions on getting this resolved.

Hello Izmcgee!

Thank you for your comment!

I assume you refer to the Acronis True Image version of backup software (since only this verion had 8398 build). Most probably the issue was caused by the lack of drivers on original bootable media.

I'm glad to inform you that it can be easily resolved by downloading the updated bootable media (built on alternative loader) from your account and burning it onto the CD.

I would appreciate if you could test this solution and let me know whether it solved the problem. Should the issue persist, please let me know the full name of the product you're using via Private Message, I will find another solution for this inconvenience.

Should you have any questions or concerns - don't hesitate to share them with us.

Thank you in advance for cooperation and patience.

Happy user of multiple different (registred) Acronis products in a Governmental environment, we now
have a critical Problem with Snap Deploy. We downloaded a test-version which works flawlessly
on the Thinkpads I tested with (great Software, handles a SID-Change on Windows 7 much more
convenient than Sysprep!).

However, on the Asus EEE1201N (NIC: Atheros AR8132), the Agent won't boot; the NIC isn't found.
I've read this and other Topics, I'm already using the latest build, but this build does not seem to contain
the newest bootable-media-files. Appearently, the button in the attachment is not visible to test-user...

Is it possible to send me a link to the newest version with more and/or updated drivers in the Kernel?

We would be very grateful for a quick response, otherwise we have to perform changes to 92 Netbooks
by hand by tomorrow, because the already purchased Licensecode may take up to 5 business days to arrive
(fixed retailer).

Regards & thanks upfront.

Hello J. Tebbe,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our forum. I will do my best to assist you.

I would really appreciate if you can clarify something for me. Did you download the bootable media from your Acronis web-account or you downloaded just the latest build and created the media from it? To be certain, I will send you instructions for updating the media components and updating the PXE Server. Also, please do not be put off by the date in your download section. October 2009 is the date when build 3329 was released, the bootable media however is updated on a regular basis, the latest update was in the beginning of June. We are currently working with our Web-team to provide more correct information.

Also, I would like to ask you for additional diagnostic information because we had an issue with an Atheros NIC which was resolved, but we need to make sure which NIC you are using and the diagnostic information will show this. You can send it to me via a private message. Please use this link for instructions.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Thanks for the quick response!

To answer your question: at first I used the build-in files from Build 3329.

After downloading the files from the links in your PM, I updated everything as described.
Then, I:

- Recreated Boot-Media
- Restarted the PXE
- Tested the Laptops again

Now the USB-stick I use gives a "non system disk" -error (yes, the disk itself is bootable).
I already isolated the failure beeing related to bootwiz.cfg or bootwiz.sys, because when I copy the old
versions of these two files to the stick, the stick boots (but a Kernel Panic occurs because of the incompatibility).

I would really like to have resp. wonder whether an .iso with updated drivers integrated will work, because now, I
still cannot test whether the updated drivers will work or not. Is there a possibility for this, without having to create
the Linux report?

Hello J.Tebbe,

Thank you for replying.

I am very sorry for the inconvenience but it is very difficult to predict if a specific hardware model work with the latest media for Acronis Snap Deploy 3. We need the system report so that we can determine if this model supported.

I believe the fastest way to resolve these issues is to contact our support team with the report that I mention here.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.

All,

This message contains technical and political feedback and applies to both the forum and mail-/phonesupport.

======================================================================================
Technical Feedback
======================================================================================

The specific NIC-Type has been mentioned in an earlier post and/or PM, but this wasn't the main problem after
I performed the steps in the mail. I should perhaps have said that I'm a German user. Possibly or probably, the
cause of the non-booting stick ("non system disk"), lies in a wrong combination of English and German files. I assume
that the new updates you've send me were in English, where the ASD-Server I've applied them to is German.

However, the German phone- and mailsupport helped us very gently and sent me quite the same Email, in German, with links
to localized Kernel.dat, Ramdisk.dat and bootwiz.sys files. After applying these files, creating a bootable stick and booting
from it, as well as booting directly over PXE, worked flawlessly.

======================================================================================
Political Feedback
======================================================================================

As political feedback, I really need to mention that it's perhaps a kind of mismarketing to prevend potential customers
from downloading the latest bootable media, which is only possible with a full license. After all, ASD is a deployment solution,
and how are we able to deploy as well as test the product, when the machines we want to use it with aren't even able to boot?

On the other hand: reponse was quick at all times, the guides the employees sent me very clear (English as well as German).
The phonecontact was very friendly and really willing to help (mr. Neubert). Although the problem took us very, very much time,
everything works fine now, and very quick. We're satisfied again.

Thanks to all involved persons.

I'm very new to Acronis but have been having problems exactly as those in this thread. I have the Optiplex 380 systems and cannot use their NICs via PXE or bootable media. I posted on thread #9021 but realized I should be posting here. Please forgive my double-post but I do need assistance as well. Thank you,
-Joshua

could we also have a link to the pxe update. We are having problems with the pxe not loading the driver on some pcs (Lenovos).

Cheers

Hello Joshua Gragg and sord data,

Thank you for posts and I will definitely assist you. Please give me a few moments to send you the necessary instructions.

If you need additional assistance, please let me know.

Thank you.

hello, everyone
I just purchased the acronis true home image 2010 today. And I found that if I boot acronis from bootable CD which is download from my account(build 7046, apirl 1st), my NIC card is not recognized. My NIC card is intel Atheros AR8151/52 series. Can you help me with that?

Hi Yana,

We also have ASD version 3.0.3329 with the same problem booting with the PXE Server recognising the onboard NIC on a Lenovo T410s. Could you please provide me with instructions for updating our PXE server?

Thanks!
Andrew

We have ASD version 3.0.3329 (German) with the same Intel 82577LM NIC problem. Could you please provide us with the instructions for updating our PXE server?

I saw that there are different instructions (download files) for english and german versions of ASD 3. Please note that we use the german ASD3.

 Hello Connie, Andrew and Marcel!

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us! We will surely be glad to help you!

Dear Connie, since the issue was caused by the lack of drivers on the media, we can simply solve it by obtaining the updated bootable media. Please download it from your account as mentioned here and burn it onto the CD. Boot your machine from it and see whether the issue persists.

Should it remain - let me know via Private Message, I will send you another bootable media built on alternative loader.

Dear Andrew and Marcel, thank you for your comments! I will send you the instructions via Private message in a minute, please follow the instructions. Marcel, thank you for mentioning the product language. Don't worry, I will send you German bootable components.

Let us know in case you need anything else!

Thank you once again for cooperation and patience!

Hi,
we are also having Problems connecting our latest notebooks to the network via PXE, booting from the "new" cd image works fine.
How can i integrate the CD to the PXE Server?

Thanks a lot in advance,
Christian Kirchner

 Hello Christian!

This issue is caused by the lack of drivers in the bootable componets of PXE (that's why it works in the latest CD - it's regulary updated and uploaded to the website).

The solution is to update the PXE with the latest bootable components. I will send you the instructions and links via PM in a minute - please follow them and see whether the issue persists.

Thank you!

Hi Yana,
I am trying ASD 3. I have prepared my test enviroment, but I have encountered same problem discussed in this forum.
I've tried both PXE booting snap deploy and the stand alone utility (using cd rom). Either way it does not detect the NIC .

The computer starts normally using network boot and it takes the IP from dhcp IP address.
After the Acronis interface starts. I click ok to configure it. On the next screen I am not see any NIC under Network Card on the right Pane.
Why?

PC: DELL Vostro 430. Eth card: Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet
I have also used PXE server on Linux based as indicated in your last post, but nothing.

Could you please support me on this?

Thanks
Claudio

I am just starting with the trial version of Snap Deploy (build 3.0.0.3329) and, before purchase, I need to verify that I can successfully deploy a Windows 7 image to various new Dell computers (multiple Optiplex 380, 780, and 980's). How can I get the updated files that are needed to do this?

Thank you,
John

Hi, Can you please PM me the latest link to the PXE update so we can move on with never Dell models?

Regards
Roy Andre

I have the same problem with onboard NIC HP Z200 & HP 8540W. I am booting too via PXE, NIC not detected.

I to am having issues with Snap Deploy 3329 on the Dell Optiplex 380 nic card. Thought I'd test it out and see how it works but so far its been a real pain. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello

We have +- 30 laptops Acer with Atheros AR8131 NICinterface.
When we startup with a bootable media he doesn't find the NIC.
When we use PXE-server we can connect with it but afterwards when we choose foor the deploy agent he nic is'nt recognised anymore.
Now we use a trial version but before we want to buy licenses we have to be sure we can work with the deploy agent.
Can you help us
Greetings

We're having the same issue with 70 Dell Vostro 320's with a Realtek PCIe GBE interface. Can you give me the same advice? Thanks,, /Peter & Mike

We're also having NIC detection failure during Snap Deploy on different PC h/w (HP, Lenovo, etc.). I've updated our Snap Deploy to build 3329 but still having issue with the NIC's.

Can you provide me with the recommended procedures to resolve the NIC detection? Personally, Acronis should have released a product update to resolve a known (past and future) issue instead of a hit-or-miss workaround. I know, ...don't shoot the messenger....but any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Having NIC detection issues also, please send instructions to update the PXE with the latest bootable components. Thanks :-)

I am trying to use snap deploy on a new Thinkcenter M90 5485 thinkpad and the NIC is not recognized (Intel 82578 DM Gigabit adaptor). I am on build 3329. Can you provide me the fix to resolve this NIC non-detection issue by Snap Deploy Agent?

Thanks,

Hi Yana,

We received our new Optiplex 380 PCs and tried to deploy them with the Snap Deploy Trial because we search for a new deployment solution.

Now we have the same problems with the on board NIC but we are not able to download the newest "boot able media" because we just using the trial yet.

Is it possible to get the newest boot image with this trial to finish our tests?

If not, can you tell me how long does it take to release the new build because we don't buy it till our tests are successfully done.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

I also have the same issue with Intel 82577LM on some HP EliteBook 8540p's.
Could you send over the link to the updated PXE drivers? (My organization has these notebooks without CD drives, so we definitely need to use PXE).

Thanks!.

Regards,
Kelvin

Hi Anton,

My name is Jason and we are trialing Snap Deploy 3 but we are unable to capture images of our test units over the network due to our newer laptops and desktop network cards are not being recognized. May I get the instructions on how to update or allow the image capture creator to be equipped with all the drivers of our network cards on our assets?

Thanks,
Jason

Anton or Yana,

I would very much appreciate it if you could please assist me in updating the Acronis Snap Deploy 3 bootable components. Our PXE server does not contain the necessary drivers to interface with the NIC on a recently delivered Dell Optiplex 380 SFF.

Thanks!

Hello Ilia and Domenic!

Thank you for your comments!

Dear Ilia, in case you're booting from True Image bootable media and it doesn't see the NIC, than it's True Image to be updated. The issue is caused by the lack of drivers on the original media, but it can be resolved by downloading the latest updated bootable media. Please burn it onto the CD and see whether the issue persists.

Dear Domenic, thank you for your message. I will send you the PXE update via PM shortly.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

I am using the trial and unable to see the server from HP z200s that I have purchased.

The network card are not reorganized when i want to use the bootable cd or via PXE.

Plz halp!

Hello Steve,

Let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Anton & Yana,

Similar issues discussed above. Trying take an image from Dell E6510, pxe returns 'unable to load Linux kernal' while boot media can't find the NIC.

I've updated to 3329 which didn't change anything. I tried the new boot media and I've been able to take an image.

Could you please PM with the solution to fixing the pxe issue.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Shaun.

Hello Shaun,

Thank you for your post. I will definitely assist you.

In a few minutes I will send you all the instructions.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I am have a problem with master image creator CD using the NIC's its found on a pc-104 architecture. It shows me the three NIC's I enter static IP's in all three and cannot ping them from the any other box in the same LAN Segment. Im using Snap Deploy 3.0 Build 3329. Please assist. Do I need a new boot Disk with new drivers?

Hello Edward,

Thank you for your message. I will do my best to assist you.

At the moment, it is not very clear why this issue occurs. To eliminate the possibility of a drivers issue, I will send you a PM with the latest version of the Master Image Creator. Just in case, you can always download the latest bootable media from your Acronis web-account, even though the build number says that it was released way back, the actual bootable media is updated even more often. We had an update last June.

If the bootable media fails, we will need to investigate this problem, that is why I would really appreciate if you can submit a support request with the following information:

1. Screenshots of the NIC settings in the bootable media.

2. Acronis Linux Report colleced from the bootable disk.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

We have dell optiplex 980 pc's and the same pxe boot nic doesn't recognized problem on Acronis snap deploy(3329)
Please send me the the pxe boot fix link.

Thanks.

Hello gorkem guner,

Please give me a few minutes to send you the necessary information.

Let me know if you have additional questions please.

Thank you.

Our new Acer TravelMate Notebooks with Atheros AR8151 not supported by Snap Deploy. The network card are not reorganized when i use the bootable cd or via PXE.

Same problem with Dell Optiplex 980 SFF, at first I encountered the "Linux kernel error" but I've fixed after changing the storage operation to legacy. Now I can go to Acronis Image Creator window but after that another problem occured, it cannot drive the NIC, the specs is Intel® 82578DM GbE Ethernet LAN 10/100/1000. I have already the latest build 3329 but still cannot drive the NIC. please help because hundreds of this kind I need to clone.

Please send me the instructions to update the PXE server, i have downloaded the bootable image. We are trying to deploy to HP Compaq 8100 elites and it is not recongnizing the nic. If i use the CD it does recongnize however i get a 169... address. I would like to use PXE so that I can add a delay so that it picks up DHCP.
