Help -SOS - After initiating clone disk ..."Starting Acronis Loader" appears and system hangs :(
HELP SOS!!
I followed the manual to performa a cloning of 500 GB HDD ona new Dell Optiplex 3020 (50 GB HDD SATA) Win 7 by inserting a brand new 500 GB disk (replacing Optical Disc and used its SATA cable) and started Clone Wizard . But after the "restart PC to perform cloning..." following defining original disk and disc to cloning the PC whent into a black screen saying "Starting Acronis loader" and everything freexes. What to do?
I am disappointed that this happens... I have not performed a recovery media (stupid I know). I happen to have Dell backup and recovery USB disk of the disck but that will boot and start a recovery of a oroginal factort reset which I do not want to do. I guess I loose all files and programes if I do that.
Is it the MBR which is corrupt?
Xmas Greetings to you all out htre frpm Stockholm, Sweden.

Thanks for the valuabale help but I get the same message when I boot from the old HDD (in same SATA 0 as all the time) after having removed the new HDD. I checked the new HDD and nothing has been made to it (it us still unformated). Should I choose legacy boot with the original 500 GBHDD.
What is your opniion dear friend?
Xmas greetings Kari in Stockholm

I believe the boot order in your machine bios is not set properly so you need to boot to your machines bios setup, look for the boot tab and make certain that the HDD is listed first in the boot order.

The boot order is the right order thats sis the old HDD which contains the Windows System but still I end upo in "Starting Acronis Loader"... so it must be something on the HDD that Acronis has made changes to or ?

Hi Kari,
Here's some additional suggestions.
If you have access to another computer, you could load Acronis and create a boot dvd. You may have to contact Acronis directly if your Acronis password doesn't work on the other computer.
You may want to purchase a 2 bay external docking station such as EZ-dock 3.

I use an EZ-dock 3 with excellent results. It has a self contained clone capability. You could clone the old disk to the new disk, then with the new disk, try to sort out the MBR problem. I do believe your problem is related to the MBR.
Perhaps, one of the IT experts can help with the MBR...I am not an IT expert.
Merry Christmas

Do you have Windows Boot Manager as a selection in your bios?

As Nils asks, do you have Wiondows Boot Manager shown in your bios? If you do make that first in the boot order. If the machine will still not boot to Windows then as suggested by Technogod you have probably got a corrupted boot record in which case you can try the fixmbr step outlined in the link he provided.

In the list of boot devices in your bios you should see an entry for "Windows Boot Manager" that entry should be moved to the top of the list. That might not be the case if your machine has a Legacy bios and does not use UEFI. In that case the disk drive that contains Windows should be first in the list. If your machine refuses to boot if this is true then you might try the other steps outlined in the troubleshooting link.
