I Need Help

Thread needs solution

So, I bought this software hoping it will backup my FULL computer instead of just personal documents, files, and music. I want all my applications and installed programs to show to like it does when you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for instance. Everything is there.

I bought a MyBook but that didn't do the full job so I had to re-install all my downloaded programs and ones with license keys.

Does anybody know how to continuously backup to Acronis, as well as how to return your PC the exact same way it was (background and everything) when your PC breaks or a part fails. Do you need to use Universal Restore or Bootable Media? I'm confused.

Hi Daniel,

Acronis is vary capable of doing this - I only do full disk backups of my main OS hard drive and have recovered from them several times.  I'm not sure what options you've picked so far, but you want to be selecting a "Disks and partitions" backup and then pick the entire disk you want to backup.  From there, you can (and should) pick up a schedule, a backup type (full backups, incrementals or differentials) and a cleanup task (so your backups don't keep growing and growing - you have to determine how much space would be needed based on the total size of your full backups, plust additional incrementals or differentials and your retention requirements.  As a good rule of thumb though, you want your backup location to be 3-4 times as big as a full backup so you have some room to grow and keep multiple versions.

This is the user manual on disk/parition backups (pick the entire disk):

http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2017/index.html#7937.html

The user manual goes through backup options, schedules, schemes, exclusions, etc. as well:

Here's a good user video from Youtube as well (older version, but very similar) that goes through the settings and how to configure them.

No, you do not need to use Universal Restore to restore your backup images to the same computer.  However, you do need to have your bootable rescue media to boot to to do the restore.

Here's another good video to explain the process:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0KKeh-ue-Y

And this is how you build your rescue media - you can build default Linux media which will boot on most computers:

or WinPE rescue media

There are videos posted in my comment above. There's no crash course. It's not overly difficult, but please check out the videos and the user guide to familiarize yourself with the application.

Hello,

I wanto to REGISTER my newly purchased "Acronis True Image 2017 (Lizenz für 3 Computer)", but when I am asked about the "Serial Number" I enter the

"4RQ...........CBB"i.e. the 17 characters "PRODUCTSERIENNUMMER" which is printed on the pamphlet of the installation CD, I am told that the Serial Number is wrong. So which SN are you referring to?????

Sincerely,

Io, welcome to these user forums.

Hello Io,

The boxed versions of Acronis products produced after March 2, 2009 are shipped with 16-digit activation keys instead of product serial numbers. The serial number can be obtained by submitting the activation key and other necessary registration details either at the Boxed product registration page or on the registration page of your Acronis account.

Thank you,

Hello Steve,

Thank you so much to make me aware that I did the wrong thing reporting my problem to this users forum site instead of contacting Acronis Support. Fact is that I am not well aware how to post an Email to them and the list of FAQs they provide doesn't answer mine. Then I tried to edit my message containing my email address just to remove it,  but I am afraid it didn't work. Can you explain how to do it?

Sincerely,

Franco Bianchi (Io Ilpio .....)
